Gardening is a tricky task, and doing it properly is typically a matter of trial and error.

If you enjoy gardening, you will enjoy all of these different hacks.

Soak your seeds in warm water for at least 24 hours before planting

If you're planting seeds, soak them in warm water for 24 hours before planting. For some species, it is a process of dividing root formation. Because all seeds must absorb water before germination, soaking them will enhance the germination process in many plants.

Furthermore, not all seeds must be soaked. Soaking large, hard seeds aids in the breakdown of their outer covering (particularly for Sweet Peas), while smaller seeds do not require soaking.

Lay nappies in your flower-pots

Using a (clean) diaper is a brilliant method to keep the soil moist for days. The granules used in diapers absorb a considerable quantity of water and will release it to the pot or hanging basket as needed by the plants.

This is a great hack to water your plants when you’re out of the house.

Eggshells for a calcium boost

All plants, like people, require calcium for new development. Calcium is essential for plant development and processes, as well as for reducing the danger of plant disease. Feed your plants eggshells to give them a calcium boost.

Furthermore, powdered eggshell is useful for this, but it should be mixed in with potting compost before planting.

Make your own compost

Making your own compost is less difficult than you would imagine. Place a large container or pile at the back of your garden with various layers of soft organic waste, such as prunings and grass trimmings.

Food waste also works well - raw vegetable scraps, eggshells, coffee granules, tea bags, and even pet fur, simply place it all in a compost heap and add grass clippings and any annual crops. If you give the heap a nice mix every few weeks, you will have some quality compost in 12-18 months.

"Plant your own veggies and flowers!"

Gardening is a part of horticulture which includes the practice of growing and cultivating plants. Usually, people think of flower gardens all decorated with beautiful flowers and perfectly trimmed topiary plants into beautiful shapes. We are here to break this stereotype and make you aware of different forms of gardening that differs based on the availability of the space, and other resources.

Flower Gardening/ Butterfly Gardening

These are the stereotype gardening that we talked about. It includes butterfly gardening, topiary gardening, flower planting, etc. Basically, it is the type of gardening where people grow varieties of flowers based upon their needs and wish. You may have heard of the popular tulip garden of Amsterdam- it is also a flower garden filled with various colored tulips. If you have enough space, time, and wish to have a garden with beautiful scent and butterflies, then try flower gardening. You can either hire a gardener to maintain your garden or can learn to maintain the garden on your own.

Container Gardening

If you do not have enough space in your house, then container gardening is the go-to option for you. It is the easiest form of gardening especially for people with a busy schedule. Gather up some soil in an old container, buy some seeds that are easy to grow, plant it, and water it every morning while sipping your morning coffee. It is the most convenient and emerging form of gardening.

Fruits, Vegetables, and Herbs Gardening

vegetable-gardening

As the name suggests, it basically is the plantation of fruits, veggies, and herbs on your own. If you want fresh and organic veggies for you and your family, then you can plant some vegetable seeds in open space in your space and grow some veggies on your own. Moreover, if the weather, climate, and other factors are favorable, you can grow fruits in your space as well to have fresh and healthy fruits and herbs as well.

Organic Gardening

You can start organic gardening in your kitchen garden or even in containers or rooftop gardens with the organic wastes you collect in your house. You can use compost manure, recycle yard wastes, and grow organic fruits and foods with natural pesticides and fertilizers. You can grow healthy organic foods untouched by harmful chemicals.

Water Gardening

water-gardening

It is one of the oldest forms of gardening.  Water gardening is gardening concerned with growing plants adapted to pools and ponds. The pool must contain suitable oxygenating plants to keep the water clear and support any introduced fish. Most water plants, including even the large water lilies, do well in still water two to five feet deep.

1st December 2020
"Transform your roof into a beautiful garden."

Owning a beautiful garden is the dream of many; but if you live in city areas, you may feel a lack of proper space. But, let me remind you, to start gardening, you don't need a huge field or ground. You can simply plant some beautiful flowers in a pot and either places them on your balcony, or roof-top, or even hang them in your windows.

If you have a roof or access to a roof, then with proper methods and steps, you can start roof-top gardening pretty easily. You just need the following things to start gardening.

roof-top-gardening

Access

First and foremost, you need to have access to the roof. You must either own one or get permission to start gardening in one. So, if you don't own the house, then get permission from the landlord about the access to the rooftop and then, begin your gardening

Soil

The second most essentials are soil. It's obvious that plant needs soil but the kind of soil and its moisture and fertility matters the most. So, make sure to get yourself fertile soil. As you are planning roof-top gardening, the soil doesn't get many minerals as it gets from the earth. So, make sure to add fertilizers timely to ensure their fertility.

Pots and containers

Before purchasing pots and containers, ensure what kinds of plants you are planning to grow and in what way. This will help you evaluate the length and width of the pots. Terra cotta is used by many experts but they tend to dry faster. Thereupon, if possible, try to get yourself a customized pot or container.

Drainage

Your plant needs to drain out some water but some containers do not have holes to drain the water. So, make sure to leave an opening at the bottom of your pot to ensure proper water drainage.

Ensure a water source

Your plants require persistent attention and care unless they're low maintenance plants. So, it is to ensure a water source. It's best if you can set an automatic water source which will feed your plants even when you get too busy with work.

Plants

Now, the most essential and core part of gardening- plants. After preparing other essentials, you need to select the type of plant you want to grow and nourish in your roof-top garden. You can either grow vegetables. Or you can also go with perennial plants- they require deep pots for their roots to grow but will make your rooftop greeny and beautiful. Also, if you want a flower garden, then you can easily choose the flowers you like and grow a beautiful little roof-top garden for yourself.
