Huawei has recently announced the new flagship smartphone lineup i.e. Huawei Mate 40 series which is the successor of the Huawei Mate 30 series. The series comprises 3 smartphones- Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro Plus. As for the Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus, they have quite a similarities in various aspects in terms of display, processor, and battery.

Design and Display

Design-wise, Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus is the same with the same curved build made with glass on both rear and front. Both the phone has a similar camera module at the rear and the same pill-shaped cutout at the top left of the display to house a selfie-camera. With its glass build and aluminum frame, the phone is strong and sturdy. Moreover, the phones are IP68-certified i.e. they are water/dust resistant. The phones are available in various vibrant colors with a clean finish that pleases one's eyes.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus both have a 6.76 inches FHD+ OLED display along with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The resolution of the display is 1344 × 2772 pixels. The rest of the features like edge-to-edge 3D curved and rounded corners of the display is quite similar to the Mate 40.

Performance

Both Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro+ run on Android 10 OS powered by Kirin 9000 chipset which has 5G connectivity. The chipset is pretty powerful and is capable of multi-tasking, has low response time, and processes a massive amount of data. The CPU integrated on both the phones is same. Moreover, the GPU of Mate 40 Pro and 40 Pro+ is more powerful than the Mate 40 which handles heavy graphics easily and delivers impressive images. Huawei Mate 40 Pro is available in two variants of 8GB RAM, 256GB storage whereas Mate 40 Pro+ is available in the variant of 12GB RAM/ 256GB storage. Both the phones have a dedicated slot for a NanoSD card with which you can expand the storage.

Camera

All the phones in the Mate 40 series have a camera arranged in a circular module at the rear panel. The company calls it 'Space Ring Design' that is inspired by the first photo of Black Hole. 

Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus has certain differences in terms of cameras. Mate 40 Pro has a Quad-camera setup like the Mate 40 which comprises a 50MP primary sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, an 8MP telephoto sensor, and a laser sensor. 

However, Mate 40 Pro Plus, on the other hand, features a Penta Camera Setup that comprises a 50MP Ultra Vision Camera, 20MP Cine Sensor, 12 MP Telephoto sensor, an 8MP SuperZoom Camera, and a 3D depth Sensing Camera.

As for the selfie camera, both the smartphones have a selfie camera of 13MP along with a 3D depth-sensing camera that helps in gesture control. This front camera showcases the best selfies and the adaptive selfie mode supports three types of wide angles. 

Battery

As for the battery, both the Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro Plus is packed with a battery of 4400mAh along with 66W SuperCharge support and 50W wireless SuperCharge support. Moreover, both the smartphones support 5W reverse charging as well. With this staggering SuperCharge support, you can juice up the drained easily in a short period of time.

With gentle curving glass sides sandwiching over a sturdy aluminum frame and notches in the displays, Huawei seems up to date with the latest design trends. The most notable change from the previous Mate 10 series is the camera setup at the back, with a two-by-two grid sporting 3 cameras (the third one is a wide angle lens) and a camera flash.

 

With flagships starting to look astonishingly similar the Mate 20 series brings a breath of fresh air with its slightly different design. The Mate 20 and Mate 20 X comes with a dewdrop notch to house the camera, whereas the Mate 20 Pro has a tradition notch to accommodate the camera and an advanced 3D depth-sensing array for a more secure face unlock. 

Specifications of Huawei Mate 20 Series

The Mate 20 X is the largest of the 3 phones, with a 7.2-inch HDR display with a whopping 5000 mAh battery to power it. Whereas the smaller Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro sports a 6.53 inch RGBW HDR display with a 4000 mAh battery and 6.39 inch curved OLED display with a 4200 mAh battery respectively.

All three phones have 128 GB internal storage option; however, both the Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X ships with 6 GB RAM whereas the Mate 20 come with an option for 4 or 6 GB RAM. The internal storage is expandable up to 256 GB but with a non-tradition nano-memory card instead of a Micro SD Card. 

On the performance front, all three phones sport the same 8 core Kirin 980 CPU; which Huawei claims to have performance boost and 40 percent more power efficiency compared to the previous Kirin 970

Features

Huawei is also focusing on an A.I powered future and so have included two neural processing units (NPU’s) for a real-time image processing and object recognition for both images and videos. Huawei claims the Dual NPU setup will increase the A.I performance by up to 134 percent. The A.I will also be able to automatically switch between the ultra wide angle and telephoto lens according to the subject.
