Apple has launched IPad Air (2020); and one must accept that the features, processor, and everything one gets in this iPad at such a price is reasonable. Even though the price of the iPad is relatively higher this time, it is worth buying as it has the powerful A14 Bionic Chipset, relatively larger screen, and many more advanced features. 

 

IPad Air Design

The iPad Air is relatively larger than its predecessor as it has a 10.9-inches display. The iPad has now switched to squared-off sides and round corners. The Liquid Retina display has support for True Tone and Wide Color (P3). Likewise, the display of the iPad is fully laminated, and it has an additional coating to avoid fingerprints and reflection. As the size of the display has been increased, the Touch ID has also been shifted to the top right corner of the device in a relatively smaller size. However, the front camera is still on the side when you hold the iPad in landscape. So prepare to have your eyes looking way off to the right or left when you’re on Zoom calls. 

If you have been using the previous 8th Gen iPad, then you may have to reconsider buying the accessories as well. The cable is different and other second-gen accessories are also used on the iPad. 

Performance and Memory

The new iPad Air has the most powerful chipset of all i.e. A14 Bionic chipset. It is the main highlight of the iPad, and also a major reason for you to purchase the iPad. The same processor is used in the newly launched iPhone 12 series as well. The iPad features an improved Hexa-core CPU and quad-core graphics unit. With the new setup, Apple is claiming up to a 40% boost in CPU and a 30% boost in graphics performance compared to the last generation iPad Air that featured the A12 Bionic.

As for the storage, iPad Air is available in two storage variants i.e. 64GB and 256GB. One is too cramped while the other is $150 expensive than the first one. This is the most unsatisfying part of the iPad Air. If it had a 128GB variant, then no customer would have to feel disturbed. 

Camera 

As in the iPad Pro and iPhone 11, the iPad Air features a 12MP wide camera at the rear. It can record up to 4k videos; however, there is no ultra-wide or any other sensor. At the front, iPad Air has a 7MP facetime camera. Both cameras use backside illumination technology and support Smart HDR and Auto Image Stabilization.

Apple has launched the iPhone SE, a new low-cost iPhone in 2020. The new iPhone will help address the premium mid-range smartphone segment, something Apple has been eyeing for quite some time. The announcement of the new iPhone comes at a time when the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has disrupted the global supply chain. Interestingly, Apple has made the new iPhone SE official just a day after OnePlus launched its OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones.

“The first iPhone SE was a hit with many customers who loved its unique combination of small size, high-end performance and affordable price; the new second-generation iPhone SE builds on that great idea and improves on it in every way — including our best-ever single-camera system for great photos and videos — while still being very affordable,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement.

The new iPhone SE succeeds the original iPhone SE, which was launched in 2016. That phone had a 4-inch screen and had a design similar to the iPhone 5.

iPhone SE 2020 specifications, features

The iPhone SE looks a lot like the iPhone 8. The handset has a 4.7-inch Retina screen with True Tone and comes with 64GB or 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The affordable iPhone is powered by an A13 chipset, the same chip currently powers the iPhone 11, and the old Home button, known as Touch ID, instead of Face ID.

The device has a single 12MP f/1.8 aperture wide camera sensor that supports portrait mode and 4K video recording at up to 60 fps. The front-facing selfie camera is 7MP, plus it also features portrait mode.

A single rear camera, the iPhone SE (2020) offers a Portrait mode, using computational photography enabled by the Neural Engine on the Apple A13 Bionic SoC. For selfies and video chat, there is a 7-megapixel camera at the front, with an f/2.2 aperture.

The iPhone SE (2020) include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Wi-Fi calling, NFC, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and a Lightning port. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack. Built using aerospace-grade aluminium and durable glass, it measures 138.4x67.3x7.3mm and weighs 148 grams. It also features an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, up to 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes.

The US pricing of the new iPhone SE 2020 starts at $399 for the 64GB model, going up to $499  for 128GB model, and $549  for the 256GB model. The iPhone SE 2020 comes in Black, White, and RED colour options. Pre-orders begin from 5pm PDT on Friday, April 17, and it will go on sale from Friday, April 24 in the US.

Apple is announcing a new iPhone 12 mini today. It’s the first time Apple has used the “mini” moniker on its iPhone line, after using it on the iPod mini, iPad mini, and Mac mini previously. The new iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4-inch screen, which means Apple has squeezed a larger display than the 4.7-inch screen found on this year’s iPhone SE into an iPhone 12 mini handset that’s smaller overall.

Apple has made the $729 iPhone 12 mini smaller by removing Touch ID and replacing it with Face ID, alongside a significant reduction in bezels around the display. Apple claims it’s the smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G phone in the world.

Like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini uses Apple’s A14 Bionic, a 5nm chip with better energy efficiency and performance than the A13. It includes a six-core CPU (two high and four low) that Apple claims are 50 percent faster than the A13 chip. It also includes a four-core GPU, which Apple claims will enable “console-quality games.”

The iPhone 12 mini shares the rest of the main iPhone 12 specs and design, too. The iPhone 12 mini has flat aluminum sides that now match the iPad Pro and iPad Air (and are similar to the iPhone 4 from 10 years ago).

The shared specs include a 12-megapixel f/1.6 main camera — the fastest aperture in any iPhone yet — and a 12MP ultrawide. Apple has improved low-light performance on the iPhone 12 mini, and the front-facing camera will also include its own Night Mode.

The display glass on the iPhone 12 mini is also coated with what Apple describes as a “Ceramic Shield” for better durability. Water and dust resistance has also been improved to an IP68 rating.

Apple is also using the new MagSafe magnet system on the iPhone 12 mini. It supports wireless chargers (including Qi-enabled devices), case accessories, and even leather wallets that all snap onto the rear of the device.

Apple’s iPhone 12 mini is priced starting at $729 and will be available in five color options: blue, green, black, white, and red, Preorders for the iPhone 12 mini will begin on November 6th at 5AM PT / 8AM ET, with the handset shipping on November 13th.

Correction: Apple originally announced the iPhone 12 Mini would cost $699. The MSRP is actually $729. That lower price only applies after a $30 discount from specific carriers.
