Lenovo sails past expectations with 31% first-quarter profit jump

12th August 2020
"Net profit came in at $213 million for the April-June quarter, nearly double market estimates while revenue grew 7% to $13.3 billion."

Lenovo Group, the world’s biggest PC maker, smashed expectations with a 31% leap in first-quarter net profit, as the coronavirus pandemic spurs businesses to shift to remote work and schools to switch to online learning.

Consumers stuck at home are also spending more on PCs and other smart devices for entertainment purposes, the Chinese giant said.

Net profit came in at $213 million for the April-June quarter, nearly double market estimates while revenue grew 7% to $13.3 billion.

In particular, China sales surged, climbing 17% while those in Europe, the Middle East and Africa jumped 28%. Sales in the Americas, however, dropped 9%, hit by declining demand for smartphones in Latin America and a shortage of components for Chromebooks in North America.

“Chinese government is driving domestic consumption - for sure we should leverage that to grow our business. Last quarter results can prove that we have a very strong position in China,” Lenovo Chairman Yang Yuanqing told a briefing.

Yang told Reuters in a later interview that demand still had far more room to grow in China, where the penetration rate for PCs was still somewhere between 20% and 30% compared to that in the United States of 70%.

He said Lenovo’s sales during China’s June 18 shopping festival - which is heavily promoted by e-commerce platforms - had doubled over the previous year. “We really see the strong rebound after the COVID-19,” he said.

According to research firm Gartner, worldwide shipments of personal computers rose 2.8% in the April-June quarter, as vendors restocked their channels and mobile PC demand increased.

Things to Consider While Buying a Gaming Laptop

13th September 2020
"The best gaming experience comes with the best gaming laptops."

The gaming trend is escalating, and so is the technology and features in the gaming laptops. If you have enough budget to put in the gaming laptops, then why to hesitate- for gaming laptops enrich your gaming experience with smooth transitions for a longer period without burning your hardware.
One should be cautious about every feature while buying a gaming laptop as it is pricy and in case of damages, the repair costs can be really high. Some of the important things that should be considered while buying a gaming laptop are:

Hardware (GPU & CPU)

Both GPU and CPU are equally important to enrich the gaming experience. Advanced GPU aids the gamer with smoother VR and special effects to enrich the gaming experience. While talking about GPU, there are many advanced graphics cards from the AMD series and the Nvidia series. These cards differ from entry-level gaming that requires basic settings to mainstream gaming, and VR and Highest settings. So, do some research and choose accordingly.

The gaming experience is mostly affected by the GPU rather than the CPU. So, you can choose a very powerful CPU- Core i7 or you can simply choose Dual Core i5 as well. However, for lag-free experience in high-intensity games, you should go after Core i7 which relatively is expensive than other processors.

RAM/VRAM

RAM, undoubtedly, is the feature that affects the entire experience, and don't forget, things under the hood matters the most. For gaming, I recommend you not to settle below 8GB RAM, as even the best games might stress you out with all the disadvantages that come with lower RAM. If possible, go for 16GB RAM that is generally offered on the laptops with GTX 2060 or more. Nevertheless, memory, in most of the laptops today, is upgradable; so you can boost it when it’s convenient.

Screen/ Display

Every move you make, every target you set, every detail, every enemy, and everything you enjoy while gaming is all on your screen. So, don't forget to consider the laptop with the best resolution, refresh rate, and viewing angle! One needs to consider the size, resolution, refresh rate, panel type, and G-sync and free sync. Click here to know more about the display best for the gaming experience. And, if possible, avoid 2-in-1 laptops with touch screens as glossy screens that kill the battery are pitfalls for the best gaming experience.

Keyboards and touchpads

As you make most of the movements using the keyboard, you have to examine the keyboards as well. The key travel i.e. how far you can press the key down; actuation i.e. force you need to apply to press the key down along with anti-ghosting and n-key roller that allows registers all the keys if pressed hurriedly should be considered to ease you with the gaming experience. Also, most entry-level gaming laptops have a red or white backlight or some also may have RGB backlight while some allow you to change colors as per the game.

Others

While the above mentioned are crucial and most important specs to consider, good sound output, ample storage, and brands should also be considered.
