Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is gearing up to introduce the Jimny off-roader by the middle of 2023.

The Jimny 5-door will be based on the Jimny 3-door that was showcased in India at the Auto Expo 2020. According to new info, the 5-door Maruti Jimny will be available in two seating configurations: 5 and 7 seats.

Performance

The Jimny 5-door will come with a 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine that will develop around 102hp of power and 130 Nm of torque.

The 1.5-liter engine will be similar to the one in the Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, Ciaz, and the Ertiga in our market, but tuned to give a bit more torque.

Gearbox options will include a five-speed manual and a four-speed torque converter automatic.

There are also talks of the updated Jimny getting a turbo-charging, mild-hybrid powertrain, internationally.

Dimensions

The Jimny 5-door will be sub-four meters in length. It will measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width, and 1,730mm in height.

It will have a wheelbase of 2,550mm; a 300mm increase over the 3-door Jimny has a wheelbase of 2,250mm and is 3,550mm long overall.

The Jimny 5-door will have a 210mm ground clearance and will weigh 1,190kg, 100kg more than the three-door version.

The fourth-generation three-door Jimny, which was released internationally in 2018, is still in high demand.

So much so that Suzuki began producing the three-door Jimny exclusively for exports in India. The Jimny is currently available in 194 markets worldwide.

The three-door Jimny is now being exported largely to Peru and Columbia, but will soon be available in the Middle East and Africa.

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) is looking to enter the diesel segment once again next year as the vertical continues to draw a lot of customers especially in the high selling SUV and multipurpose vehicle segments.

The auto major had discontinued diesel models from its portfolio with the onset of stricter BS 6 emission norms from April this year.

As per the sources, MSI has initiated the process to upgrade its Manesar-based powertrain plant so that it can start rolling out BS 6 diesel engines starting middle or festive season next year.

Sources also confirmed that the company plans to utilize the BS 6 compliant diesel powertrain in the Ertiga and Vitara Brezza to start within the domestic market.

As per PTI said the company is looking to upgrade the current set- up at the Manesar plant, which earlier used to churn out its in-house developed BS 4 compliant 1,500-cc diesel engine.

MSI's entire model range is currently powered by BS 6 compliant 1 litre, 1.2 litre and 1.5 litre petrol engines.

In July this year, MSI Executive Director Sales and Marketing Shashank Srivastava had hinted that the company may look at having a bigger BS 6 diesel engine at a later stage if there were enough customers for diesel-powered big SUVs and sedans.

Several other automakers also decided to phase out diesel powertrains, especially small capacity engines, as they thought that small diesel cars would become expensive and thus out of reach for entry-level customers.

Maruti Suzuki is the largest car seller in India. Until last year, Maruti Suzuki, which had the largest market share in Nepal, is now lagging behind Hyundai. 

 


 

However, Its market share is over 50 percent, while Hyundai is in second place with 17 percent market share. In particular, companies like Tata and Hyundai have been increasing their investment in India by adopting aggressive strategies, while Maruti Suzuki has come under some pressure. Since the nature of the market is moving, it is not easy to know what kind of vehicle the customer likes at what time. 

Therefore, Maruti Suzuki has moved forward by preparing a new offensive plan.

As part of its strategy, various reports have pointed to cooperation with Toyota. In India, Maruti Suzuki has proven to be the best company in manufacturing 'Value Offer Money' cars at low prices. 

The company is bringing a new generation of three models that it is currently selling. The new generation model of entry level car Alto, B segment hatchback car Celerio and sub four meter SUV Vitara Brezza is being brought to the market this year. 

The company is going to bring Alto 800 and Celerio car for the first time since 2014. The Vitara Breza is a 2016 model. 

Due to the high level of competition in this segment, the company is expected to launch a new generation model soon.
