Tips for choosing face wash for your skin type
"Finding the best face wash that suits and soothes your skin type is not a piece of cake."
Deciding on the right face wash for your face can feel like a guessing game. The right face wash and cleanser can ensure makeup goes more evenly, brighten your complexion, and even prevent breakouts. But it all depends on what type you choose. Choosing the right face wash is not a piece of cake especially for a newbie. The first and foremost task is to know your skin type and what your skin needs. So, here are some tips on choosing the right face wash for your skin type.
Dry skin
If your skin is often itchy, flaky, and tight, then your skin is dry which is prone to premature aging, and is incapable of generating oil on its own. So, while choosing a face wash for dry skin lookout for a face wash that clears away grime, and impurities without stripping skin of its natural oils. A hydrating face wash comprising of various oils and glycerin should do the trick. Moreover, look for soap-free formulas wherever possible.
Normal skin
If you have an even skin tone with no flaking, redness, or sheen, and only the occasional breakout, then you have normal skin. As your skin isn't picky, we recommend potent (yet non-drying) face wash with a range of bonus perks: anti-aging, toning, and hydrating ingredients are all a major plus.
Oily skin
If your skin has large, visible pores and a greasy sheen that develops quickly after you’ve cleansed, then you surely have oily skin. Look out for an oil-control face wash that digs deep to purify pores (ones with charcoal are highly effective), and helps regulate oil production without leaving your face feeling dry. A formula that balances pH will also slow the growth of bacteria and helps prevent breakouts.
Sensitive skin
If your skin is often red-especially after cleansing and is easily affected or irritated by anything, then you probably have sensitive skin. So, seek out for face wash with dense, creamy foams and soothing ingredients like aloe vera, willow bark, and witch hazel. Balancing pH is also important, as the skin can get dry or irritated when its pH is out of whack. If possible, avoid heavily sudsy products (less creamy, but bubblier).
Combination skin
Basically, it is a combination of oily and dry skin. If you have an oily T-Zone (your forehead, nose, and chin) and drier skin on your cheeks, then you have combination skin. It's best to look out for a formula that balances a thorough clean with a healthy dose of hydration. Like a face wash for dry skin, it should clear away oil and grime without stripping skin of moisture. The ideal is a face wash that protects the skin's lipid barrier, locking in natural moisture while cleansing surface oil.
