Tips for choosing face wash for your skin type

31st January 2021
"Finding the best face wash that suits and soothes your skin type is not a piece of cake."

Deciding on the right face wash for your face can feel like a guessing game. The right face wash and cleanser can ensure makeup goes more evenly, brighten your complexion, and even prevent breakouts. But it all depends on what type you choose. Choosing the right face wash is not a piece of cake especially for a newbie. The first and foremost task is to know your skin type and what your skin needs. So, here are some tips on choosing the right face wash for your skin type.

Dry skin

If your skin is often itchy, flaky, and tight, then your skin is dry which is prone to premature aging, and is incapable of generating oil on its own. So, while choosing a face wash for dry skin lookout for a face wash that clears away grime, and impurities without stripping skin of its natural oils. A hydrating face wash comprising of various oils and glycerin should do the trick. Moreover, look for soap-free formulas wherever possible.

Normal skin

If you have an even skin tone with no flaking, redness, or sheen, and only the occasional breakout, then you have normal skin. As your skin isn't picky, we recommend potent (yet non-drying) face wash with a range of bonus perks: anti-aging, toning, and hydrating ingredients are all a major plus.

Oily skin

If your skin has large, visible pores and a greasy sheen that develops quickly after you’ve cleansed, then you surely have oily skin. Look out for an oil-control face wash that digs deep to purify pores (ones with charcoal are highly effective), and helps regulate oil production without leaving your face feeling dry. A formula that balances pH will also slow the growth of bacteria and helps prevent breakouts.

Sensitive skin

If your skin is often red-especially after cleansing and is easily affected or irritated by anything, then you probably have sensitive skin. So, seek out for face wash with dense, creamy foams and soothing ingredients like aloe vera, willow bark, and witch hazel. Balancing pH is also important, as the skin can get dry or irritated when its pH is out of whack. If possible, avoid heavily sudsy products (less creamy, but bubblier).

Combination skin

Basically, it is a combination of oily and dry skin. If you have an oily T-Zone (your forehead, nose, and chin) and drier skin on your cheeks, then you have combination skin. It's best to look out for a formula that balances a thorough clean with a healthy dose of hydration. Like a face wash for dry skin, it should clear away oil and grime without stripping skin of moisture. The ideal is a face wash that protects the skin's lipid barrier, locking in natural moisture while cleansing surface oil.

The sheer and satin lipstick

Do you have really dry lips that tend to crack even during summers? If yes, then this is the one for you. They are even best for day-to-day wear. As they are creamier and have moisturizing quality, they soothe your lips and make it shiny and glossy. They are rich in oil; as a result, they appear to be lighter when applied on the lips as compared to the catalog. However, make sure to reapply it in between as they tend to dry really fast.

Cream lipstick

Cream lipstick is rich in wax content so they tend to last for a longer time giving you a smooth texture. They are creamy and smooth but not glossy and shiny like the sheer and satin lipstick. Cream lipstick is also suitable for dry lips.

Gloss lipstick

Who doesn't like a girly glossy look? Be it for a daily look or to match your beautiful dress at a party, a glossy lipstick can do wonders to your appearance. Glossy lipsticks are best for you if you don't like heavily pigmented lips. Glossy lipsticks are often worn in nude shades. It's best for someone who wants glossy, soft lips without any pigmentation. You can also put it over the traditional lipsticks as well.

Matte lipstick

Matte lipstick, as its name implies, gives a matte finish to your lips. It is highly in trend nowadays and is best if you are opting for a dark and dramatic shade. They are rich in wax and contain less oil, as a result, once they dry out, they do not shine. As they are often dark shades, make sure to choose your shade wisely, as if you put on some wrong shade you may look hideous, not glamourous. Also, they cannot be wiped off easily like other lipsticks on the list.

Lipstick stain

Lipstick stains are emerging slowly. It gives you a lighter shade than a matte lipstick and tends to last longer than satin or cream lipsticks. Also, once they stain on your lips, you won't have to worry about ruining it while eating or doing anything else. It'll stay on your lips as long as you want. However, they tend to dry out your lips really soon. So, make sure to moisturize your lips often while applying lipstick stains.

Crayon lipstick

Crayon lipsticks are new on the trend. They are convenient, easy to carry, easy to use, and give has a better finish than satin or cream lipsticks. Moreover, they don't dry out your lips like the matte or lipstick stain. Often they are distributed in nude colors which are best if you are a working woman.
