Safety measures while using a microwave oven

19th November 2020
"Keep yourself and your house safe from burning down!!"

Microwave ovens are the go-to appliance if you are either far from home, or a busy person, or interested in baking. They have eased the lives of several people as they are pretty convenient and simple to use. As it uses hot radiation to cook food and can turn really dangerous if not used properly, you should take the necessary safety steps into consideration while using it. Make sure to stay alert when you use a microwave oven and keep yourself away from harm's way.

Follow manual's instructions

It's best to follow the instructions and guidance of the manual that comes with the oven. Do not try to outsmart the equipment and go through every line of the manual so that you won't mess up the microwave oven and the dishes you plan to cook.

Use only Oven-friendly Products

It's best to use only the oven-friendly dishwares while cooking or using a microwave oven. Most of all avoid the use of metallic, and plastic dishware as metals are prone to burn and plastics melt. Unless you want to burn your hands or spend hours cleaning the mess, only use the oven-friendly products.

Avoid Flammable food or liquids

Flammable foods and liquids burn once you turn the microwave oven on. Unless you want to burn your whole house down, do not try to cook any kind of flammable food and liquids like alcohol.

Check for leakage

Check if the microwave radiation leaks through the loose door hinges, latch, or seals. Even though the microwave radiation doesn't pose any harm to your health, check out for broken doors or damages to ensure no microwave radiation is leaked. As microwave radiation cannot be seen and is odorless, you never know when the radiation leaks; so check the oven door and hinges timely.

Avoid sealed foods

Sealed food packages tend to explode if higher pressure is exerted upon them. So, if you want to heat the sealed food, open the seal, put it in an oven-friendly container or dishware, and then microwave it.

Keep away from children's and pet's reach

Do not cover the oven vent

Do not place anything over the microwave oven and never cover the oven vent when it is in use. It's best to leave the oven on its own- uncovered and not-disturbed. Covering it up increases the pressure and temperature of the microwave oven which may also cause a fire.

Do not run experiments

Do not try to run experiments with the microwave oven. Do not turn the microwave oven on without closing its door. It leads to exposure to microwave energy.

Space and location

The wall or floor space should be considered while buying a geyser or a water heater. The spot to be designated must have easy connectivity to the input and outlet faucets. And, it should be easily accessible for maintenance and repairs. Moreover, make sure that the place where you keep the geyser is properly ventilated in order to avoid any kind of risk such as suffocation while using the geyser.

Size of the geyser

A geyser once bought will be used by the entire family. So, keep the size of your family and the number of people who’ll use the geyser while buying one. An oversized geyser means heating of extra water that is not required if you have a family of 3. So, choose the size of the geyser according to the necessity in the family and save electricity.

Longevity and parts availability

Buy a geyser that has a longer life and has easily available replaceable parts. Though your budget should also be considered while looking out for a durable geyser, don’t hesitate to add a few hundreds or thousands of rupees to buy the geyser that lasts relatively for a longer period. For example, a tank-less water heater’s life is of about 20 years while that of tank-type is 10 to 12 years.

Warranty

Besides the warranty of the geyser itself, don’t forget to check the warranty of the heating element and the tank while buying a geyser. Also, keep the warranty card safe.

Brand

Besides the features of a geyser, you should look after other services like after-sale service and warranties. Not every brand provides such services and not every brand is trustworthy; so, purchase a geyser from brands that are trustworthy like Bajaj, Racold, etc.

Looks

If you are a person who loves decorating their house and is a bit picky, then buy a geyser that suits your bathroom decor, style, and size. Also, A MAJOR REMINDER, don’t forget to check out the important features while going after a beautiful geyser.

Type

Basically, there are two types of geysers depending on their size, convenience, and uses. They are instant geysers and storage geysers. Instant geysers are small and occupy less wall-mounting space, also they are suitable for washing kitchen utensils, hand wash, and bathing using a bucket. Storage geysers are big and occupy more wall-mounting space; these geysers are suitable for bathing using buckets as well as using a shower. Storage geysers are cost-friendly as compared to Instant geysers. However, the instant geysers last longer than storage geysers.

Energy consumption

A 5 star rated geyser consumes less electricity for heating water as well as has much less heat loss. Install energy-efficient star rated geyser and reduce your monthly electricity bills. Higher star-rated geysers are a little expensive to buy in the first place but they save a lot of money over a longer time period.

Tips on taking care of your PC/ Desktop

21st October 2020
"Working and playing games on your PC is fun, but have you considered the maintenance and grooming of your PC?"

Are you concerned about your PC or Laptop? And, are you looking for ideas to keep it safe and have it work efficiently for a longer period? If yes, then continue.

It is vital to take good care of your desktop or PC for its efficient, effective use, and durability. Playing games, watching movies, working, preparing for your exams, listening to songs, surfing the internet, etc. might be fun, but you may get anxiety once your PC gets damaged or require repair and professional help. As they say "Prevention is better than cure", let's look into ways to keep our PC safe.

desktop

Antivirus software to prevent malicious attack

Often times as our desktop is connected or linked with the internet and WWW, the risk of unwanted viruses or malicious software increases. Such a virus destroys your files or may take up your RAM and deliberately make your computer or PC slow. So, as a child is given polio drops to avoid polio in the future; similarly, in order to avoid any kind of malfunction or ineffectiveness from viruses, install antivirus software into your PC to make it virus-immuned.

Do not download unwanted files

It's best to keep your desktop clean and embellished with necessary files only. So, do not download unwanted files; do not replicate or copy files recklessly; in case of temporary files, delete them as soon as they serve their purpose; and, scan your computer timely to search any unwanted, unused, or replicate files.

Don't pull the power cord

Do not pull the power cord directly from the power socket as it may result in a breakage of the cord or damage the socket as well. Also, do not kick or step upon the cords; moreover, try to refrain from bumping into the cord as you may loosen or break it.

Avoid liquids and food near your desktop

Have you ever spilled your coffee on your keyboard and ruined it? Well, many people have done this and regretted bringing coffee or any liquid near to the desktop. Your working table is not your dining table; so, make sure to keep foods and liquids away from the desktop unit. Firstly, if spilled, they will either damage the accessories or different parts of your unit or pollute your unit. You don't want any of them to happen, or do you? If not then avoid bringing liquids or foods near the desktop unit.

Place it in a clean and dust-free room

While entering an old lab, you might have seen a huge pile of dust above the CPU unit, and a dusty monitor that blurs your display. Dust and dirt easily settle down in the unit. Moreover, once the dirt settles inside the motherboard, and control unit of the CPU, your PC might not perform that effectively. So, make sure to place the unit in a cleanroom that is free from dust and is vacuumed timely.

Plug the accessories in allotted ports/ slots

Every accessory and part have their dedicated slots in the CPU. Don't force the USB cable into the HDMI port. This will not only vandalize the cable but also affect the slots. Also, some accessory may not function if they're inserted in other slots. For instance, if you insert the speaker cable into the microphone cable slot, then your speaker will be mute as its functionality won't be recognized through the mic slot.

Clean it annually

Placing the PC unit in a ventilated room that is frequently vacuumed is one thing. Despite the location, you have to clean the CPU unit and its insides once a year. Take your unit to the nearby computer stores or call a professional to have it cleaned. But, don't try to outsmart the technology trying to clean the unit on your own as if any misplace in parts or wires occur, your PC unit will not function and you'll have to pay for more damages than mere cleaning.
