What happens when you over-exfoliate?

27th January 2021
"If your skin has some breakouts or redness, treat them immediately."

Exfoliation is an essential part of skincare as it aids to get rid of any sort of dead skin cells or flakiness. Moreover, exfoliation cleanses your skin deeply digging out the impurities and dirt hidden inside your pores.

As they say, even medicine can be harmful if used unnecessarily- your skin might suffer if you over-exfoliate. It's best to exfoliate once to twice a week but not more than that. If you do, you might suffer from skin burns and many more problems. Let's get to know what happens when you over-exfoliate.

Dry and flaky skin

If you over-exfoliate, your skin becomes more dry, rough, waxy, and flaky. You'll have some rough patches on your skin. At times it may look like your skin has a radiant glow but it's not.

Burning skin, Redness, and inflammation

Your skin gets a burning sensation and starts having rash-like-patches around your skin. It sometimes may even be intolerable.

Breakouts

You'll have breakouts on your skin. Small pimples appear on your skin. Over exfoliation takes away all the moisture and oil from your skin which makes your skin unhealthier and vulnerable.

Increased sensitivity

Your skin will react to almost every product you apply, especially the one with extra chemicals and fragrances. It'll burn even to put on some moisturizer

What to do?

Once you start facing such problems, it's best to stop exfoliating for the time being. You can resume exfoliating after your skin heals. Here are a few things you must do to heal your skin and prevent further damage.

Stop exfoliating and using retinol products

You'll need to readjust your skincare routine. Eliminate the cleansers that dry out your skin from your routine and avoid both physical and chemical exfoliation for the time being. Also, stop using retinol products as they are harsh on compromised skin.

Switch to a mild cleanser

Avoid all sorts of foam cleansers and switch yourself to mild cleansers. Avoid any skincare product with fragrance. Be more gentle with your skin and do not use any unnecessary products on your skin. Best if you stop using makeup products for a while.

Treat your skin with soothing products

As soon as you notice some red patches or you feel a burning sensation on your skin, apply soothing products like aloe gel, hydrocortisone cream, or Aquaphor. Treat the red and raw areas with soothing products and cold compress as soon as possible.

Signs and symptoms of migraine headache

14th January 2021
"Know these symptoms of migraine to either prepare for it or prevent it."

Migraine is one of the severe and painful headaches that sadly are suffered by many. One faces throbbing pain in one or both sides of the head and there are other several warning symptoms and signs of migraine with its help you can either prevent one or prepare for one.

Throbbing pain in one or both sides of the head

Pulsating pain is a classic sign of migraines. The throbbing is often felt on one side of the head while it may also be felt on both sides of the head. The pain may be occasional or frequent and continuous.

Aura

People with migraine headaches see auras like flickering lines, spots, and lights. You'll see some curvy lines that turn into different shapes and sizes. And, this may last anywhere between 5 minutes to 1 hour

Irritability, depression, or excitement

Mood swings are a major sign of a migraine. Sometimes one may feel all depressed and down for no reason, while one may feel all excited and happy without no reason. Researchers have found that moderate or severe depression may cause episodic migraines to become chronic.

Lack of restful sleep

A person with migraines might have trouble falling asleep. They might wake up all tired, energyless or they might have to struggle sleeping at night. A lot of people suffer from insomnia because of migraines. This inability to sleep can be the start of a vicious cycle, as research suggests that lack of sleep can also trigger migraines

Cravings

Before the migraine attack, people tend to have strong cravings for certain foods. Common cravings are chocolate.

Eye and neck pain

Migraine causes extreme eye pain which people often tend to have caused due to eye strain and get their eyes checked but it won't reduce the headache. During the early stages of a migraine, people tend to have a stiff neck and later they start having throbbing pain at the back of their neck.

Numbness and tingling

Some people with migraines have a sensory aura. They may have a temporary lack of sensation or a pins-and-needles feeling, typically on one side of the body, moving from the fingertips through the arm and across the face.

Light, noise, and smells trigger or worsen pain

Normally, after the migraine attack, the sufferer tends to seek out dark and quiet places as the bright and noisy places trigger the pain and worsen it. The same is with odors and smell.
