The worst conditions that the majority of drivers will encounter frequently involve rain and slick roads.

Hazards and risks are raised whenever it starts to rain, or even if roads are already wet from recent rainfall. It's time to begin following the rules for riding or driving in the rain and to rain-proof our vehicles.

Here are the most important DOs and DON'Ts while driving or riding in the rain:

DON’T

Do Not Use Cruise Control

On wet roads, cruise control set at too fast a speed could cause the vehicle to hydroplane when it encounters standing water.

On very low-traction surfaces such as ice and snow, cruise control operation can result in a skid or spin. Drive safe and avoid using cruise control on slippery roads.

Do not turn on your hazard lights

When your hazard lights are on, your vehicle cannot indicate direction changes with the turn signals.

In addition, other drivers cannot distinguish between a moving and a stopped or disabled car on the road.

Therefore, unless you're alerting others that you're a danger, turn off those hazard lights.

Do not keep driving in heavy rain

If the rain severely hampers your visibility and the winds are too strong, find a safe place to pull over and wait it out.

Find a lit, protective place if possible. Keep your lights on when pulled over and turn on your hazard lights to warn other drivers that you’re parked.

DO’S

Be More Cautious with Braking

When you’re driving in a downpour, you simply cannot brake late the way you can in ideal weather conditions.

The roads are slippery, which means you could slide more if you brake too quickly.

There’s also a chance that you could get water in your brakes, which will cause them to lose their stopping power.

So be sure to keep plenty of distance between you and the car in front of you to avoid any of these situations.

Turn your lights on

Having your lights on increases the visibility not only for the driver but also for other road users.

Headlights let you see the edges of the roadway or lane better. Meanwhile, the taillights will make your vehicle more visible when it’s raining, even during heavy rains.

Cars need regular maintenance to perform efficiently, safely while driving, car tires are one of the most important components that have to be regularly checkup and maintained.

Here are some tire care and maintenance tips that you can follow during everyday driving and before heading on long road trips:

Maintain the right tire pressure
Most of the tire problems stem from improper inflation. Keeping your tire properly inflated is critical to maintaining the life of your tires, maximizing the fuel economy, and most importantly to keep you and the other passengers safe.

The maximum pressure that the tire can hold is mentioned on the sidewall of the tire.

But, that is the maximum limit and is not the actual pressure you want to inflate your tires with.

Check your tire tread depth
The tread depth of your tires must always be more than 2/32 inches.

If your tread depth reaches this limit, it is deemed unsafe and must be replaced.

More the tread depth the better is the grip and the stopping capability.

Get your wheel alignment checked
The front tires of your vehicle need to be aligned periodically to ensure that there is not an excessive amount of difference in the way the two tires are pointing.

A qualified maintenance facility can measure the amount of tow-in or tow out on your vehicle’s wheels and adjust it according to manufacturer specifications.

This prevents excessive and undue wear.

Choose your tires well
If you wish to get maximum life from your tires pay attention to the quality of tires.

Along with the tire brand, you must ensure that the tire size exactly matches the manufacturer’s recommended size.

This will prevent early tire wear, improve fuel efficiency and increase their longevity.

Clean your tires
Simply wash your tires with soap and water and remove dust from the wheels.

Cleaning your tires is not only important to enhance the aesthetic look of your car but is also a significant maintenance step that can prevent your tires from cracking and discoloration.
