LG announces air purifier mask called Puricare Wearable

27th April 2022
"PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier"

Masks have become an integral part of all our lives amid the Covid-19 pandemic. LG, possibly, takes this as an opportunity to introduce PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier that also works as a mask. In fact, this LG product works when you wear it as a mask on your face. This is the first time the brand has announced a product like this one. For the portable wearable air purifier, LG takes cues from its existing lineup of air purifiers which it sells in several markets.

How does it work?

The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier uses a pair of HEPA replaceable filters quite similar to the filters used in the company’s home air purifier products. It also comes paired with battery-powered fans that are claimed to help users breathe. The air purifier mask also includes sensors that detect when a user breathes in or out and adjusts the fans’ speeds accordingly so the user doesn’t face issues in breathing with the mask on.

The company claims that dual fans “allows users to take in clean, filtered air while the patented respiratory sensor detects the cycle and volume of the user’s breath and adjusts the dual three-speed fans accordingly.” LG also claims that the “fans automatically speed up to assist air intake and slow down to reduce resistance when exhaling to make breathing effortless.”

LG PuriCare Wearable is said fit snugly on the user’s face and reduce the air leakage around the nose and chin. “The design also makes it possible to wear the unit comfortably for hours on end,” the company claims.

The mask also includes UV-LED lights that kill harmful germs. The LG ThinQ mobile app notifies the user when the filters need to be replaced for peak performance. The app is available on both Android and iOS. LG claims that every component of the mask is replaceable and recyclable.

The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier comes packed with a 820mAh battery that claimed to offer up to eight hours of use in low-power mode. In high-power mode, it can last around two hours.
LG announced the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier back in the month of July. As per a report from The Korea Herald, at the time of announcement the company said it will donate around 2,000 of these devices to a university hospital in Seoul with the aim to help medical staff “amid the protracting COVID-19 pandemic”. Doctors and medical practitioners face difficulties in wearing mask for long hours, LG wants to help them with its portable air purifier mask.

With the wearable air purifier mask LG wants to replace the “inconsistent” homemade masks worn by many and also disposable ones. The company doesn’t highlight if the airpurifier mask has been designed in response to Covid-19 pandemic.

Can you buy it? And when?

LG so far hasn’t revealed release details about the portable air purifier mask but does mention that it will be available in select markets in the fourth quarter. The brand also hasn’t revealed the pricing of the mask. The company has announced to showcase the air purifier mask at IFA 2020.

LG INTRODUCES POWERFUL PORTABLE AIR PURIFIER FOR ENHANCED PEACE OF MIND

27th April 2022
"LG announces the world’s first filter-type portable air purifier designed for use on-the-go"

With clean air, a commodity in high demand today, LG Electronics (LG) announces the world’s first filter-type portable air purifier designed for use on the go. With an innovative PM1.0 Sensor, the compact and cord-free LG PuriCareTM Mini helps deliver safe, clean air in the car, a baby’s nursery, or even one’s office.

With LG’s 4-Step Air Filtration System, LG PuriCare Mini can detect and remove 99 percent particulates as small as 0.3 μm.* The first step involves the PM1.0 Sensor which quickly and accurately detects the quality of the air before the Dual Inverter Motor forcibly draws in the air at 5,000rpm in the second step. In step three, the high-efficiency Total Allergen Removal filter removes particulates in the air, and in the final step, the powerful Twin Tornado Dual Fan disperses the clean air far and wide. The LG PuriCare Mini is not only highly efficient, it’s also fast, cleaning 50 percent of the air inside a car in 10 minutes.**

LG PuriCare Mini can go anywhere the user goes thanks to its small size and lightweight, which make it ideal for use on the go where plug-in models can’t go. Similar in size and weight to a 500-milliliter bottle of water, the wireless portable air purifier freshens the air for up to 8 hours at low speed or 2 hours at the highest setting on battery power alone. And its quiet operation – only 30dB in a low setting – allows the LG PuriCare Mini to be used in an enclosed stroller without waking a peacefully sleeping baby.

PuriCare Mini utilizes a durable filter that lasts up to 2,000 hours or six months if used 12 hours a day. The free LG ThinQ app for both Android and iOS devices allows users to monitor the condition of the filter, check the battery status, and control their LG PuriCare Mini via Bluetooth with a smartphone or tablet.

“Providing useful technology in a form factor that goes where our customers go – this is what LG PuriCare Mini is all about,” said Song Dae-Hyun, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “There is nothing more important than the health of one’s family and LG is committed to using its engineering know-how to deliver innovative solutions.”

LG PuriCare Mini will become available in key markets of Asia throughout the next several weeks into 2019.

Chinese NReal AR Glasses To Be Bundled With Samsung Galaxy Note20 And LG Velvet In South Korea

10th August 2020
"The types of applications are limitless, and with South Korea a leader in 5G, there should be some very useful apps developed."

In January 2019, Beijing-based startup nReal were starting to get attention from the west after a successful showing augmented reality (AR) glasses at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The glasses, named Light, appears to have achieved mainstream recognition, because starting today, the glasses will be sold in South Korea as an optional bundle package alongside both Samsung and LG’s newest smartphones through the carrier LG Uplus.

When nReal cofounder Chi Xu was interviewed, he said he developed his idea for the Light because he thought Microsoft’s Magic Leap was far too bulky and expensive ($3,000). It was noticeably lighter and smaller than the Magic Leap.

It’s these two traits that attracted the partnership with LG UPlus.

We wanted to lower the barrier to the AR glass market with a realistic price and lightweight design” said Song Dae-won, executive vice president of LG UPlus’ device unit in a press release.

Consumers in South Korea can pick up a pair of nReal Light for 249,000 Korean won, or around $292, if they purchase a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 or LG Velvet through the carrier. This is a heavily subsidized price from the official $586 retail price.

The nReal Light is, essentially a pair of glasses with two 1080p screens attached to each spectacle, and together they pump out visuals that, when the glasses are worn properly, will be projected over real life field-of-view.

One key benefit of the nReal Light compared to other AR glasses is that the glasses can be plugged into a myriad of devices—including smartphones like the Galaxy Note 20 and LG Velvet.

For example, a user can plug the Light into a phone and scroll through Instagram as a digital overlay that “floats” over the real world, or watch YouTube videos. Software companies are free to build anything for the glasses and from my testing over a year ago, nReal demonstrated a Space Invader type game in which I had to move my head around to aim a crosshair to destroy incoming enemies.

The types of applications are limitless, and with South Korea a leader in 5G, there should be some very useful apps developed.
