Proper footwear while driving a car for safety

3rd January 2022
"The type of shoes you wear can significantly affect your driving safety."

The type of shoes you wear can significantly affect your driving safety. This largely has to do with the car’s pedals and how some shoes are not a good fit when operating those pedals. Here are some suggestions for the proper footwear while driving a car for your safety:

Driving Barefoot

You probably know that driving barefoot isn’t the safest choice.

When you’re used to driving in shoes, driving without them can feel uneasy, and that’s not what you want when operating a motor vehicle.

It requires you to put more pressure on the pedals than you usually do when wearing shoes which could affect your braking time, putting you at risk.

Repeated use of the clutch could end up being painful, causing cramps or other spasms in the foot and reducing the ability of the driver towards effective control of the vehicle.

Driving with Flip Flops

Any shoe that doesn’t secure to the heel in some way can cause interference with braking or accelerating.

These kinds of shoes can also slip off and become stuck under a pedal, affecting your ability to drive safely.

Flip-flops do not have adequate ankle support, resulting in the foot slipping off the pedal or missing the pedal altogether.

Flip flops slipping off the feet of the driver distracts the driver trying to locate the flip flop and putting it back on his foot.

Driving with High Heels

These can interfere with your ability to pivot your foot on your heel from the accelerator to the brake pedal—a key to safe driving.

And wearing high heels may cause you to hover your foot between the accelerator and brake, which not only causes fatigue but also eliminates the critical contact and pivot point needed for effective and safe reaction time.

High heels also have the added danger of the heel getting caught in the floor mat.

Ladies who like to wear high heels or platform shoes should rather change into these before going out of the vehicle.

Apart from the appropriate footwear when driving your footwear/ shoes must be comfortable enough for long driving. The most important consideration is to focus on the sole of the shoe. The sole should neither be too thick nor too thin.

And it should not be too soft or too flexible and it should have enough grips on the pedal to avoid slipping.

Most importantly it should be lightweight to enable easy movement - it is important not to hinder ankle movement in working various pedals. Ensure that the sole is not so wide that it might cause you to step on two pedals at the same time.

Buying a Second-Hand Car? Here are the Tips

18th November 2021
"Buying a second-hand car means it’s a smart investment done by the buyer as the price of the new car is raising every New Year."

Buying a second-hand car means it’s a smart investment done by the buyer as the price of the new car is raising every New Year.

Some buy it because they aren’t as confident in their driving. Whatsoever be the reason trust me this is a very complex thing to do. Herewith are the basic tips you can follow before buying a second-hand car:

History of the maintenance of the car:

Always make sure that you know about the car history, before purchasing one. Checking the exterior condition might help better in finding out about the vehicles.

Maintenance of Car

Simply, ask the owner about in what conditions the vehicle was being used and also ask if the servicing and maintenance were done regularly or if the vehicle has been in an accident.

Moreover, try to get as much information from the owner about in what conditions the vehicle was being used.

Engine:

Engine coolant

As we all know the engine is the heart of the car. Always, check for leaks, corrosion, and cracked tubes in the engine. Make sure to check the oil and transmission dipsticks for discoloration — the oil should be light brown, transmission fluid should be pink or red. The dark brown stains seen on the engine blocks are caused by a gasket leak.

Exterior and Interior Condition:

If you are buying a second-hand car, then it’s very necessary to take a good look at the vehicle from all angles. Things might look fine at first glance, but a close inspection can reveal a different picture.

Exterior and interior

Watch out for rusting and paint damage in the exterior and check the front and back seats for any tear or stains, and electronic items such as a music system, monitor in the interior.

Documents:

The documents related to the vehicle should not be neglected at any cost by the buyer. It is one of the most important things that will give you different information like about previous owner, vehicle sold record, and also vehicle’s tax payment record.

Car documents

Original purchase invoice, insurance, road tax receipt, and pollution certificate are the documents that are needed to be checked while buying a used car.

Mechanical inspection:

This is the last and major step you should not forget. First of all, do your personal inspection of the car and if you are in any of the doubts or no doubt take the car to the professionals for the final check-up because the car is a big investment though it is a second hand.

Car inspection

Even after the detailed inspection and test ride, mechanic inspection will make sure if there is something the buyer should worry about.

Since the mechanics are professionals, they are more aware of the vehicles and can determine if the vehicle has any underlying issues or areas that might become an issue in the future.

Ways to Winterize your Car

3rd January 2022
"Preparing your car both inside and out for winter weather is the greatest way to ensure stress-free travel."

Winter driving conditions can be difficult due to road hazards and as the temperature decreases, road conditions change, and your vehicle may require additional attention to get you there.

Preparing your car both inside and out for winter weather is the greatest way to ensure stress-free travel. Here are some tips:

MAINTAIN THE GAS TANK AT LEAST HALF FULL

All you need to do is fill up frequently! In the winter, keeping gas in the tank is more vital than in the summer because a full tank lowers condensation, which can help avoid gas line freeze-ups.

Furthermore, if you become stuck, your engine may be the only thing that keeps you warm until assistance arrives.

REAR-WINDOW DEFROSTER

Driving situations might become risky if you are unable to see behind you. As a result, certain counties have regulations requiring all windows to be free of moisture and dirt.

Moreover, check your rear-window defroster before the cold weather hits to ensure that it is operating correctly.

KEEP THE WASHER FLUID-FILLED

Replace your windshield wiper fluid on a regular basis. A single rainstorm may empty a large amount of the whole fluid, therefore replacing the washer reservoir on a regular basis with winter-specific windshield wiper fluid.

Add a bottle of washer fluid antifreeze to the reservoir if you're not sure if your washer fluid is the proper formula for cold temperatures. It's available at most auto parts stores.

MAINTAIN TIRE PRESSURE

Colder weather not only creates potentially hazardous driving conditions but also has an impact on your tires before you ever go on the road.

So you should check your tire pressure more frequently throughout the winter and refill your tires as needed.

Appropriate tire pressure may be found in the owner's handbook for your vehicle.

CHECK THE BATTERY

Cold weather makes it much more difficult to start your car. If you haven't replaced your battery in a while, take a check under your hood.

If the connections are rusted or the battery is damaged, or if you detect electrical problems or a slow-starting engine, it's time to replace it.
