How to self-care during your period

As women, our bodies endure a lot. From cramps to bloating, fatigue, mood swings, and more, this can be a tough period to get through. Even worse is that it happens each month, making it feel as though there’s no end in sight.

To make you feel better you can try some of these self-care ideas:

Make Sure You’re Well Rested

Getting enough sleep during your period and your premenstrual period may leave you feeling more energized and help stabilize your hormones.

To create an environment that encourages you to stay well-rested, make sure your room is at a comfortable temperature before you want to fall asleep, and try to set a schedule where you’re waking up and going to sleep at the same time each day.

Stay Active

A little bit of exercise can go a long way to ease some of your PMS and period symptoms.

A yoga class might ease stress, bloating, and cramps, while a walk or run may encourage your body to release mood-boosting endorphins. Keep an eye on your energy levels and choose a workout that feels good, keeping in mind that just because you have your period doesn’t mean you need to shy away from high-intensity workouts at all times.

In fact, at the start of your period, you may have more energy and strength than usual, because of a drop in estrogen and progesterone levels.

Take a Bath

Heat, whether from a heating pad, warm bath, or hot shower, is one of the best ways to ease tension and reduce pain associated with cramps or muscle soreness.

Plus, it may help you feel more relaxed and comfortable in general.

Eating healthy

It’s pretty common to crave carbs and sugary foods as your period nears, but these can cause your energy levels to crash while also contributing to mood swings, bloating, and water retention.

Instead of reaching for cookies, bagels, and other empty carbohydrates, focus on protein and healthy fats to keep your blood sugar levels stable and decrease inflammation, fiber to encourage healthy digestion and reduce bloating, and plenty of water, which can help with digestion, hormone regulation, and hydration.

Things to do while self-isolation for women

19th December 2021
"We may not have a corona cure, but we sure do have some boredom relief to see you through self-isolation with fun, productivity, and home improvement"

Like many of us, you may have found yourself self-isolated due to the COVID-19 chaos. We may not have a corona cure, but we sure do have some boredom relief to see you through self-isolation with fun, productivity, and home improvement.

Establish a routine

It’s easy to feel like you are in a rut when there is no structure to the day. Having a plan for the day with clear tasks can keep you and your day on track.

Start by having a set time for getting up in the morning, going to bed at night, and mealtimes.

Not only will this help maintain focus throughout the day, but it will also be good for physical and mental health.

The body will get into a rhythm that will lead to much better sleep and wellbeing.

Gentle exercise and meditation

Incorporating exercise into your daily routine is important when self-isolating at home.

This is particularly important because we aren’t getting the same exercise and body movements we would usually get when out and about.

Block out time in your schedule each day or a few times a week depending on your ability and energy levels.

Gentle workouts are just as effective so experiment to find what works best for you.

Stretches, seated yoga, breathing exercises, or a walk around the house a few times can be all that’s needed to boost your mood, increase energy levels and reduce stress.

Healthy eating

Since we are spending a lot more time at home now, it is a great time to make those delicious recipes you never found time to make before.

Healthy eating is a great way to boost your immune system and keep it working well.

Eating a range of healthy foods for a balanced diet will provide vital vitamins, minerals, and nutrients which will keep you feeling strong and healthy.

This will also complement the daily exercise to maintain physical and mental health.

Make time for you and the things you enjoy

It’s normal to feel anxious and scared during these uncertain times.

So it’s important to look after your mental health and dedicate time each day to doing things you enjoy to help you relax.

This may be speaking to loved ones, writing your thoughts down in a journal, crafting, and reading, baking, or watching your favorite TV shows.

Christmas dressing can be a big challenge because you want to make sure you remain warm but look stylish at the same time.

Here are some outfit ideas that might help you:

Red Jumpsuit

Red jumpsuit

If the party is outdoor, it is best to overestimate the cold rather than underestimate it because trust me, you will not be having fun if you are fearing about your entire look.

All you can do is wear a beautiful long sleeves red jumpsuit and carry a long coat, jacket if possible.

Also, you can wear flats and high heels according to your choice.

Long coats with white high neck:

Jeans with coat

You do not have to stick to green and red strictly for Christmas parties unless there is a theme going on. All you need to do is stock up on long coats! They save the day at every cost.

If you don’t have a warm enough outfit, just style it with a long coat on top.

Moreover, to style your look add white ankle boots.

Black high neck with skirts:

Wear darker and sparkly, glittery outfits at night whereas keep warm-toned or pastel outfits for daytime.

It is not usually too cold during the daytime so you can go for the lighter fabrics, and heavier ones at night since that is when the cold hits.

Moreover, if you choose a long black legging, go with the short ankle boots. If you choose not to wear leggings, go with the long high knee boots to style your outfit.

Sweater and jeans:

Jeans go with everything you can take advantage of it.

All you need to do is wear a shirt inside and a sweater over it or slimly a sweater and give it more style along with the long high boots.
