LG to quit smartphone business by July to focus on smart devices

Giving in to the fierce competition with smartphone giants like Apple, Samsung, etc, LG has decided to take leave forever from the smartphone business.

Instead, LG will now divert all its focus on the production of smart home devices, electric vehicle components, robotics, AI, and B2B products.
LG is one of the few international tech companies that has struggled to receive a piece of the hot smartphone business.
While companies like Apple and Samsung have overtly dominated the smartphone and other mobile device industries.
Brands like Nokia and Blackberry, which ruled the QWERTY phone era, also failed to transition fast enough to touchscreen smartphones.
LG is an adored name when it comes to many other household appliances, but couldn't provide the smartphones the public really wanted.
They were the fifth biggest phone vendor after Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson in 2007, the year when the first iPhone was introduced to humanity.
From there on its sales trajectory has rather seen more lows than ups.
LG didn't even make it to the top five of the smartphone market, in the fourth quarter of 2020.
They did do their fair share to bring about innovative models of touch screen smartphones.
For instance, last year they rolled out LG Wing that features two screens, one of which swivels on the tops of the other.
In January they teased what was hoped to be the world's first rollable phone.
But, apparently, the consumers will have to wait for other companies to manufacture rollable mobile devices, now that LG has decided to hang it all up.
