OnePlus Surprise Announcement Hints That New Wearable Is Almost Here

17th October 2020
"it seems, the company has moved its focus to a product that’s been in development for years and may actually be almost here: the OnePlus Watch"

OnePlus has had a busy year, following the OnePlus 8 with the dreamy-but-affordable OnePlus Nord and the dazzling OnePlus 8T. But now, it seems, the company has moved its focus to a product that’s been in development for years and may actually be almost here: the OnePlus Watch.
A smartwatch from the company makes sense as it has said before it wants to make one.

But on Thursday, October 14, just hours after the launch of the OnePlus 8T, the Twitter account of OnePlus India tweeted that the ecosystem was expanding.

Need to know what was being talked about? All was revealed in the next sentence: “It’s just a matter of time”.

Well, that’s pretty clear. But if it wasn’t, the addition of a sketch of a watch-shaped unit and a strap should surely have made it clear to everyone what was being talked about.

So, what can we expect?
First, the fact that the image was accompanied by the words “What could have been but never will be. Sketches circa 2015” tells us clearly that the design will emphatically not look like the drawing.

Second, OnePlus shares an investor with Oppo, and though the two brands are wholly distinct, the recently released Oppo Watch may give us a clue as to the general direction for OnePlus. If so, maybe the OnePlus Watch, if that’s what it’s called, will have some design similarities to the Oppo Watch. Which, it must be said, has a striking resemblance to the Apple Watch.

Other rumors, however, suggest OnePlus will choose around, not a square face for its wearable.

Since the tease of the product happened this week, it seems likely that any release may happen soon. Which means before the holidays, in all likelihood.

OnePlus 8T Charging: Not Just 65W Wrap Charge But Also Support 45W PD Protocol

27th September 2020
"This time the OnePlus 8T brings a dual C cable + C port charging head, which is safe, more convenient and costly but worth it."

OnePlus 8T 5G launch will take place on October 14, and it has confirmed that it will feature the same 120Hz Fluid AMOLED display as the One Plus 8 Pro. Other rumored specs include a Snapdragon 865 SoC, a 48MP quad-camera, and up to 12GB of RAM.

This morning, OnePlus Technology CEO Pete Lau Weibo previewed the new phone and said that this time the OnePlus 8T brings a dual C cable + C port charging head, which is not only safe enough but also makes charging more convenient, costly but worth it. Pete Lau emphasized that from 2015, OnePlus was the first to use the USB Type-C port. The increasing number of Type-C devices on the market since then has verified that we’re on the right track. It is also one of our judgments about the future trend of homogenized interfaces.

OnePlus 8T not only supports 65W ultra-fast flash charging, but also factory standard with a C-port fast-charge head, which can charge the 8T, but also compatible with PD protocol fast charging, and the fastest can provide 45W PD fast charging. This way, you can power your Macbook, C-port computer, PD protocol fast-charging mobile phone, game console, and other devices.

Pete Lau said, if I were to give a new definition of flagship now, then I think at least three years is still smooth to be called a true flagship. To stand the test of time, this should be the huge benefit of buying a flagship, and the OnePlus 8T is ready for your next three years.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei left the company, to start a new venture

12th October 2020
"The reports about Carl Pei leaving OnePlus could represent the biggest shake-up at the company since its inception 7 years ago."

Ahead of the launch of its new smartphone, the OnePlus 8T, the company's co-founder, Carl Pei has announced that he is leaving the company. The news comes as not only a shock to millions of OnePlus fans this morning but also as the biggest shake-up at OnePlus since it was first started 7 years ago.

The news comes courtesy of a leaked post by Reddit user, JonSigur, who has reportedly published alleged screenshots of internal memos at OnePlus which reveal the information. While the memos don't reveal Pei's next destination, it does claim to reveal a leadership change at the company.

The memos note Emily Dai, who is currently in charge of the company's operations in India, will be appointed as the head of the Nord product line globally. This is interesting as Pei was previously in charge of the Nord phone series.

In a separate article published on its website, Tech Crunch appears to have confirmed the news by claiming to sources close to the matter have confirmed to it that Pei is indeed leaving the company. At the time of writing Android has also published a story corroborating the news that Pei has left OnePlus.

While it remains unknown if Pei's departure from the company was on mutual terms, reports suggest that he could have indeed been fired. However, this could also be pure speculation with more on the matter expected to be revealed in the coming days.
