Volkswagen ID.4 first all-electric SUV Crossover Teased

27th August 2020
"The outline of the Volkswagen ID.4 is that of a typical crossover."

The German carmaker is gearing up to put an end to all the anticipations soon. Volkswagen has released a teaser image of the ID.4 giving us a good idea of its stylish and urban design language.

Volkswagen-ID-4

With the ID.4, Volkswagen is expanding its offering by an all-electric vehicle in the largest segment worldwide – the compact SUV class. The car will in future be built and sold in Europe, China and later also in the US. Klaus Zyciora knows the character of the ID.4 like no-one else – the Head of Design for the Volkswagen Group designed the car together with his team.

Volkswagen-ID-4-Crossover-Teased

The outline of the ID.4 is of a typical crossover but the face looks very attractive as per the teaser images. Of course, then, the grille is missing and you get a very sleek chunk instead which is flanked by stretched out LED projector headlamps. That said, it will remind us of the Kia Seltos as well with a really slim DRL strip running on that sleek portion.

Volkswagen-ID-4-first-all-electric-SUV

In fact, it's the DRLs that enhance its appeal with the way they fringe around the headlight assemblies and we hope the production model stays true to this design language. It makes a solid impression with sharp character lines on the bumper and hood which continues on the profile as well. Moreover, the sloping roofline, curvy beltline and flared wheel arches give it a sporty stance, in-turn adding to its urban crossover appeal.

Volkswagen-look

The Volkswagen ID.4 will be an all-electric all-wheel-drive (AWD) crossover and will be slightly longer than the Volkswagen Tiguan in terms of dimension. It'll be underpinned by Volkswagen's MEB modular platform for all-electric vehicles which will also underpin the upcoming Skoda Enyaq IV, it's an in-house rival. Powering the Volkswagen ID.4 will be two electric motors at both axles with a combined output of approximately 198 bhp and it will have a range of 500 km on a single charge according to WLTP cycle.

ŠKODA ENYAQ, ŠKODA’s first all-electric SUV | Reviews Nepal

13th February 2020
"The name of the new ŠKODA ENYAQ is derived from the Irish name ‘enya’, meaning ‘source of life’."

ŠKODA ENYAQ: This is the name of ŠKODA’s first electric SUV based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) to be launched in series production. With its first all-electric SUV, ŠKODA is establishing a new nomenclature that combines the ‘E’ in reference to electromobility with the ‘Q’ that characterizes the final letter of ŠKODA’s successful SUV family. With the new SKODA ENYAQ, the Czech car manufacturer is taking another leap into the new era of electromobility in 2020.

The name of the new ŠKODA ENYAQ is derived from the Irish name ‘enya’, meaning ‘source of life’. Enya itself comes from the Irish Gaelic word ‘Eithne’, meaning ‘essence’, ‘spirit’ or ‘principle’. These different meanings allow different perspectives on the name of ŠKODA’s new SUV. The ‘source of life’ symbolizes the car manufacturer’s entry into the new era of electromobility and is in line with the ŠKODA brand claim ‘Driven by inventiveness – clever ideas since 1895’. It represents a new beginning, which goes hand in hand with the temperament of the ŠKODA ENYAQ and the ŠKODA engineers’ passion and innovative strength for the new electric SUV. ‘Enya’ is authentic, full of character and lively, easy to pronounce and remember and fits perfectly with the dawn of a new era in the company’s 125-year history.

SKODA ENYAQ follows ŠKODA’s well-known SUV nomenclature

Like the names of ŠKODA’s successful SUV models KODIAQ, KAROQ and KAMIQ, which are derived from the language of the Inuit people living in northern Canada and Greenland, ŠKODA combines the future all-electric vehicles based on the MEB with the Irish language in a legendary northern region. The ‘E’ at the beginning of the name stands for electromobility; the ‘Q’ at the end creates a clear connection to the virtues of an SUV. The ŠKODA ENYAQ is the Czech brand’s first series-production vehicle based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) and the next of the series of more than ten electric models that will be launched under the ŠKODA iV sub-brand by the end of 2022. By 2025, ŠKODA expects all-electric vehicles and models with plug-in hybrid drives to account for 25% of sales. By 2021, the car manufacturer will have invested two billion euros in the development of electric models and a holistic, interconnected ecosystem for modern and environmentally friendly mobility solutions.

"The world premiere of the ID.4 follows at the end of September."

Volkswagen’s electric offensive continues to gather speed: Series production of the brand’s first all-electric SUV, the ID.4, gets underway in Zwickau. The world premiere of the ID.4 follows at the end of September. Volkswagen is thus underscoring its ambition to become the world market leader in e-mobility.

Production of the Volkswagen ID.4 has begun at VW's plant in Zwickau, Germany

The ID family is the linchpin of the VW brand's ambitious plan to build 1.5 million electric vehicles a year by 2025. The broader VW Group has said it will spend nearly $40 billion by 2024 to ramp up electric vehicle production in Europe, China and the United States.

Volkswagen brand CEO Ralf Brandstätter standing next to the first series vehicle “made in Saxony” at the start of ID.4 series production in Zwickau.

All conversion work will be completed as scheduled this year. In 2021, the first full production year as an EV factory, some 300,000 electric vehicles based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) will leave the Zwickau plant.

The site will, therefore, become the largest and most efficient EV factory in Europe and a trailblazer in the transformation of Volkswagen’s global production network.

Rival General Motors Co has said it expects to build 1 million EVs a year by 2025, mainly in China and the United States.

The ID.4 and its companion, the ID.3 hatchback, are built on a dedicated EV platform that Volkswagen calls MEB. The same platform will be shared with Ford Motor Co as part of a broader collaboration with the U.S. automaker.

Ford has said it plans to build at least one new EV in Europe on the MEB platform and is considering a second variant.

Initial production of the ID.4 has begun at VW's plant in Zwickau, Germany, which was converted to build electric vehicles exclusively at a cost of $1.4 billion.

"Hyundai launched Kona in Nepal before it did so in Australia and the US."

The Hyundai Kona compact SUV is part of the brand’s global model lineup, positioned above the Venue and offered in select parts of the world like Europe and North America.  Hyundai has now teased the facelifted version of the Kona along with its new sportier N-Line variant. The current model is the first-gen Kona and was revealed in 2017.

Hyundai-Kona-front-look

The new Kona’s front end design is inspired by sharks with sharp design lines. It has a split-headlamp design with bumper-mounted LED headlamps that look like a shark’s gills. The LED daytime running lights are still a sleek design along the bonnet line but look more sculpted than before.

Hyundai-Kona-exterior

Hyundai has also teased the new N-Line variant of the Kona which has a sportier front end. It features a wider grille and low-set air intake with fin-like design elements on each end. The facelifted Kona Electric is expected to get similar styling updates as the standard SUV but with a different grille that would be better suited for an EV.
