Chinese mobile games have seen a remarkable expansion in the overseas market throughout 2020, according to Sensor Tower, a mobile app data analysis firm.

The top 30 profitable Chinese mobile games raked in 9.24 billion US dollars from the App Store and Google Play last year, up 47 per cent year on year from 6.3 billion dollars in 2019, the firm said.

A total of 37 Chinese mobile games became earners of more than 100 million US dollars in overseas markets, 12 more than in 2019.

Japan replaced the United States to become the most popular overseas market for Chinese game publishers in 2020. Japanese gamers prefer Chinese games more in terms of culture and aesthetics, the firm said.

Last year, the top 30 Chinese mobile games garnered 2.8 billion US dollars from the Japanese market, surging 81 per cent year on year.

The mobile version of the battle royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, commonly known as PUBG Mobile, continued to top the list with an overseas earning of 1.06 billion US dollars in 2020. Since its debut in early 2018, the mobile game has raked in a total of 2.1 billion US dollars from the overseas market.

Genshin Impact, an open-world mobile game published by the miHoYo, saw its overseas revenue reach 160 million US dollars in October last year, setting a new record for the Chinese game's monthly earning in the global mobile game market. Previously, the record was held by PUBG Mobile, which pulled in a revenue of 90 million US dollars in July 2019.

The new version of PUBG Mobile 1.0 is released and can be downloaded from the app store and play store for iOS and Android users respectively. The servers will not be taken down for maintenance, and the update will require approximately 1 GB of additional storage space on Android and iOS devices.

The latest version will bring with itself the new Erangel 2.0 map, beyond ACE themed gameplay, various Evo Ground additions, and much more.

The following are the new changes which will come into play:

All-new Visuals changes like updated the sky, land, water, and vegetation to be more realistic and detailed. Changed the structure of some buildings: Mylta Power, Quarry, Prison, etc.

Added trenches, wooden barricades, abandoned tanks, and constructions as cover to create a more compelling battlefield atmosphere across Erangel which will make new tactics and strategies possible.

Some mysterious Energy Towers survived the Implosion and remained on Erangel. Players will be able to redeem supplies at these Energy Towers by meeting certain conditions in combat.

During the event, players have a chance to enter this mode during Erangel matchmaking in Classic Mode. 

Improved and expanded the scope of spectators' enemy visibility detection. Fully upgraded technology solutions, and added a penalty strategy to target the newest plug-ins/cheaters. The process and tools for the release and launch of the security policy to react and combat new hacks more swiftly.

The impact of security monitoring on performance, and reduced power consumption and lag caused by security monitoring. 

The skin textures and facial details for players' character models in PUBG Mobile.

The accuracy of hair on players' characters to make it look more natural and layered.

Better transitions between standing and crouching.

The use of Med Kits only ends when the control is pushed into the sprint position.

Gyroscope is now also applied when using throwables.

When Jump Following, view angles can be changed by swiping on the right side of the screen.

While PUBG Mobile pulled out of India after it was banned by The Ministry of Electronics & IT, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel. PUBG Corporation confirmed it's planning a return to India with the aptly named PUBG Mobile India. The new app will feature altered in-game content and customizations said to reflect local user preferences. More notably, the game will focus on handling user data more transparently in accordance with local regulations.

Krafton Inc. which is PUBG’s parent company is planning a $100 million investment into the PUBG Mobile India project. There will be gameplay modifications including green hit effects in place of red as well as fully clothed characters from the start. The company is also planning a feature to help control playtime for younger players to promote healthier gaming habits.

There are also plans to establish a local office in India and over 100 employees to handle communications and user services. There are plans for India-specific tournaments, events, and more entertainment projects in the future. There is no specified date when PUBG Mobile India is expected to launch.
