Volkswagen starts with step-by-step resumption of production

15th April 2020
"From April 27, successive resumption of production at the other Volkswagen brand plants in Germany, Portugal, Spain, Russia, South Africa, North- and South America"

From April 27, successive resumption of production at the other Volkswagen brand plants in Germany, Portugal, Spain, Russia, South Africa, North- and South America

The plants of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand are to successively restart production. First, production is to be resumed at the plants in Zwickau and Bratislava (Slovakia) in the week from April 20. The other plants in Germany and in Portugal, Spain, Russia and the USA are to restart production in the week from April 27. Subsequently, in the course of May, production will be resumed successively in South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.

Production will be resumed in line with the current availability of parts, government requirements in Germany and Europe, the development of sales markets and the resulting modes of operation of the plants. Irrespective of these developments, compliance with the stringent health protection measures for employees will always be the top priority.

Andreas Tostmann, Board Member of the Volkswagen brand responsible for Production and Logistics, said: “We are resuming production and logistics with a staged approach in a well-organized way. The health of our employees has the highest priority. We are providing safe workplaces and the maximum possible level of health protection with a 100-point plan. In full awareness of our responsibility, we are ensuring that the economy regains momentum and cars once again leave the plants and reach our dealers and customers.”

In the resumption of production, the company can also call upon the experience gained with the production ramp-up at its plants in China where a large number of consistent health protection measures have been successfully implemented. 32 of the 33 plants in China have now returned to production. No cases of coronavirus have been reported among the employees there. Volkswagen continues to closely monitor the global situation arising as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Volkswagen Taigo spotted without camouflage

16th June 2021
"The Nivus debuted in Brazil with a new infotainment system called Volks Play, which was created in Brazil"

The European VW Taigo is built on the same MQB-A0 platform as the Volkswagen Taigun, which was unveiled in India earlier this year

The Volkswagen Nivus, a compact crossover that debuted in South America and Mexico, will make its European premiere as the Taigo before the end of 2021. The VW Taigo is similar in positioning to the Volkswagen T-Cross, which is already on sale in Western Europe, and is described as having a dynamic and bright design as well as a distinct character. It is distinguished by a lower, coupe-style roofline, as well as being longer and broader. It's built on the same MQB-A0 platform as the Volkswagen Taigun, which debuted in India earlier this year.

The Nivus will go on sale in Europe in the fourth quarter of this year, shortly after Volkswagen said it will be known as the Taigo on the old continent.

A facelifted version of the bigger Volkswagen T-Roc SUV will follow quickly thereafter. While the Nivus was designed primarily for the South American market, VW stated at the time of its launch in 2020 that it would eventually be available in select European countries.

The Nivus debuted in Brazil with a new infotainment system called Volks Play, which was created in Brazil.

The 10.0-inch high-definition screen includes technology comparable to that found in current European VWs, such as an App Store and built-in Wi-Fi. The system is also touted to be weather resistant and durable, as part of a larger focus on the Nivus to assure long-term reliability, which is critical in severe South American climates and roads. For example, the company can put the car's electrical system to the test over a period of up to ten years to observe how it performs.

The Nivus is also the first Brazilian vehicle to use adaptive cruise control and automated emergency braking. A digital dashboard, keyless entry, six airbags, a driver drowsiness detector, and a driver drowsiness detector are also reported to be market firsts. More detailed details, such as the car's engines and pricing, are yet to be announced, though Volkswagen has stated that it would be available in Europe with "economical TSI engines," meaning that no diesel choices will be available.
