What to do if Your Electric Scooter Battery is not charging?
"If you own an electric scooter and use it for daily commuting, you must regularly repair the scooter, especially the battery and charger."
Electric scooters, overall, are quite durable and require little maintenance. However, if you own an electric scooter and use it for daily commuting, you must regularly repair the scooter, especially the battery and charger. If the scooter's battery fails suddenly, it's a nightmare for everybody who uses it.
Here are some reasons and solutions for electric scooters that cannot be charged:
Check the Battery’s Condition
If the battery is regularly used and charged, check the condition of the battery. Open the e-scooter deck and inspect the battery by sight, smell, and touch.
See if there is anything unusual with the battery and the wires connected to it. Check if the wires are connected tightly.
If you smell a burnt plastic smell, the battery or wire might have burned. If you see a burned wire or part of the battery, take it out and replace it with a new one immediately. Additionally, check if there is a battery leak.
Test the Charging Port
Another approach to determining the cause of an e-scooter battery is to inspect the charging port. If you're unsure how to test the electric scooter battery charging port, the quickest approach to see if it's working is to look at the charger's indicator light.
The port is charging if the indicator light is on. If your charger doesn't have an indicator light, check the charger port voltage using a multimeter.
Check the voltage level with the multimeter connected to the port. Its voltage should be the same as the battery packs.
If the port contains male terminals, be careful not to short circuit the terminals or the metal enclosure of the port.
Test the Charger
Whether the port is functional, check the charger to see if it is recharging. Check to see whether it is less than 100 percent charged and needs to be recharged.
If it does, charge it by plugging it into a wall outlet. Then, using a digital multimeter, check to see if the voltage is rising in the battery pack.
To accurately read the voltage, make sure the multimeter is set to a DC voltage. When the battery voltage rises, this indicates that the battery charger is working.
Continue to charge it to 100 percent and check to see whether it is fully charged. The battery charger, on the other hand, is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.
Identify the Battery Pack’s History
When was the last time you charged or stored the battery? Was it fully charged when it was stored?
If the battery has been fully charged for less than six months, it has a better chance of being recharged.
However, if the battery is left uncharged for more than six months, it will stop charging.
The electric scooter battery, it's safe to presume, has already died. It's the same with a battery that's been overcharged.
