Get to know more about Itchya Karki

1st January 2021
"If not a makeup artist, I'd probably be on tv, hosting a show related to women. - Itchya Karki"

Itchya Karki is managing director at her own salon i.e. The Beauty Bar Nepal. Besides owning and managing her salon, she is also a model, actress, and TV show host. We had recently interviewed her asking her about herself and skincare tips. Previously, we had published the tips on skincare by Itchya Karki that included half of the information we gathered from her. And in this article, we're going to know more about her and her suggestions for winter skincare.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Ambitious, Down to earth, Crazy

Your 3 favorite makeup brands?

Tarte cosmetics, Lurella cosmetics, Maybelline

Your three ‘must-have’ beauty products that you never forget to carry with you?

Concealer, lip gloss, and brows

What does ‘beauty’ mean for you?

For me, I think beauty means something that really boosts confidence. I think confidence is really beautiful no matter what the physical traits are. Something that's confident is beautiful to me

If you were not a makeup artist, what do you think you would be?

If not a makeup artist, I'd probably be on tv- hosting a show related to women. Or I would be teaching.

What would you say to people out there who are insecure about their looks?

I think everyone has their own insecurities. It's the time it will take in your mind what's important, I feel. It's okay to have insecurities. Just like you are okay to be secure about yourself. It's ok sometimes to have some insecurities. I feel like it keeps you grounded.

However, if it starts affecting your mental health, if it starts affecting your daily routine, then that's really bad. So, for very insecure people, please make sure that you overcome because we live in a society where we are projected- so many projections of power and projections of what an ideal person should look like. So, don't let that compromise your mental health. Other than that, just be happy.

Which version do you love and feel comfortable in? With or without makeup?

I am definitely comfortable without makeup just because I'm really comfortable with my skin now. I think I have grown to love myself. However, now and then, I do love dressing up.

Reecha Sharma- My skin care routine is pretty normal and simple

21st November 2020
"My skincare routine is very simple and normal."

Reecha Sharma is a semi-finalist of the Miss Nepal 2007 pageant who started her journey as a model, later starred in many Nepali movies, hosted in TV shows, and currently, she is a producer as well. She shines wherever she goes with her confidence complemented by her glowing flawless skin. We recently had a short interview with her where she shared her secret and steps for attaining glowing skin like hers.

In the interview, we asked her if she could share her skincare routine and steps she usually follows to keep her skin beautiful and glowing. She gladly shared her skincare routine with us mentioning that her skin is dry and her skincare routine is pretty normal and simple. During that short interview, I realized that she is so humble and down-to-earth as a person.

"My skincare routine is very simple and normal; I would say.” She began,” Every day before going to bed, I put on some coconut oil. I've been using cold-pressed virgin coconut oil for the past one year and it has really changed my skin. Also, I clean my face with micellar water every evening. Even when I don't put on any makeup, I clean my face with water and then apply micellar water. Normally, I don't use much face wash but only at times when my face doesn't feel cleansed enough, I wash my face with a face wash. Before going out, I always apply sunscreen and moisturizer. It is a must for me. Also, I keep dabbing sunscreen in between as it helps and protects my skin from the sun."

"During the avocado season, I apply avocado and yogurt as a mask every week to keep my face hydrated and moisturized." She says, “Then, I scrub my face with a scrub made up of ayurvedic herbs, and then, I apply Lavanya's ayurvedic moisturizer."

As she mentioned coconut oil has changed her skin, I couldn’t help myself and got really curious about how it changed her skin as I’d never heard anyone applying coconut oil in their face. But after listening to her, I felt that coconut oil is a cure for dry skin to prevent tightness and to keep one’s skin hydrated.

She responded - "I had very dry skin before. I used to do body massage with coconut oil; so, I wanted to try it on my face. And I started doing that. I used to have really dry and flaky skin. I also used to get a lot of pimples. But, I liked cleaning my face with it. And it really started getting really shiner and soft. Since then, I couldn't stop using it."

Subhani Amatya- Young Certified Nepalese MUA

4th December 2020
"Ms. Amatya is a 19-year old certified MUA."

Subhani Amatya is a 19-year old makeup artist who freelances for herself. She has completed her master's in makeup artistry and has been working as a certified MUA since last year. Ms. Amatya has worked with renowned celebrities and models as well. She's been able to realize her dream at such a young age. I can say she is a living inspiration to many who are not confident about their dreams. We recently had a  Q&A with her regarding her journey and the challenges she faced. Let's get to know more about her.

Can you give your brief intro?

My name is Subani Amatya and I’m 19yrs old. I’m currently doing my BASW at St. Xavier's college. I am a freelance makeup artist from Lalitpur and I did my master's in professional makeup artistry from Aesthete Makeup academy.

What attracted you to enter the field of makeup? Why and how were you interested in makeup?

From a very young age, I used to play with my mother’s makeup. I was always the “nakkali chhori” of the family. Whereas for me, I chose makeup as my dream and profession when I learned that there was such thing as Makeup Artist and how fascinating it’d be to play with makeup all the time. I started watching makeup videos on YouTube and a makeup guru named Michelle Phan was a big inspiration for me. She made the makeup look so effortless, fun, and artistic.

Before becoming a certified MUA how were you involved in the field of glamour? How did you enhance and practice your makeup skills?

I always loved the field of glamour, fashion shows, runway, makeup, designing clothes, and accessories. Before I was a certified MUA, I was a self-taught makeup lover. I was also a fashion designing student during my school days. I used to watch a lot of makeup videos and practice them on myself or my cousins. I barely had any of my own makeup products so it was tough to even recreate any makeup look.

Can you share your journey until now in brief? (Challenges and opportunities)

Since I loved makeup from a young age I wanted to pursue my career in it after school but at that time my family was not familiar with the field of glamour, beauty, and art so they insisted me to take science during my +2. Neither could I make time for makeup nor could I focus on my studies. So it was a really difficult time for me. But after I passed my +2 I took up professional classes for a master's in makeup artistry. I completed my course a year ago and since then I’ve been a certified freelance MUA.

Going through your Instagram page, we can see that you are into SFX makeup too. Can you share your inspiration for this special FX makeup?

It was so fascinating to see wounds, blood and all the transformations makeup could do in movies. SFX makeup was a part of our course of makeup artistry program. I did not want to limit myself to beauty makeup so that is why I was so eager to learn SFX and fashion makeup as well so that I can work in the film industries too.

How glamorous and welcoming do you think the field of glamour is?

I think the field of glamour has always been welcoming to anyone willing to do their best. Especially nowadays, we have numerous platforms to gain an audience and many institutions to learn makeup artistry. Unlike the old times, people are really starting to appreciate the work of art and beauty.

Can you mention some of the remarkable clients you have worked with?

I got to work with our Head MUA for a commercial of Aesthete Academy along with the winner of Nepal’s Next top model. I worked with Arbitrary Group for their fashion show which was my first ever work for a runway.

Have you ever faced criticisms? If yes, how do you deal with it?

The only criticisms I get are from clients who are new to having their makeup done by professionals. But apart from that, it’s wonderful to see how people have always loved my work.

Any suggestions for young aspiring people who are interested to enter this field?

I want young aspiring people to know that makeup is not just for beauty but it’s a form of art and a way of expressing oneself. If you are interested in this field I would suggest working hard, taking up a good course and always having the authenticity of your skills.
