Home Remedies for Swollen Legs

28th December 2021
"Swelling of the feet or ankles without pain is common and can occur for a variety of causes."

Swelling of the feet or ankles without pain is common and can occur for a variety of causes. A variety of factors might contribute to leg discomfort and swelling.

However, if there is severe swelling, see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Moreover, if the swelling lasts less than two to three days, you can apply these home treatments to relieve it.

Keep moving your legs

Sitting or standing in one place for an extended amount of time (such as at work) might result in swollen feet.

Try to move a little bit every hour, whether it's a stroll to the break room, a lunchtime walks around the block, stretching your knees and ankles, or a lap around the office.

Moreover, Get up and stretch as much as you can throughout the day.

Try swimming if you have joint pain; this activity allows your body to move without having to carry weight and may also calm your skin.

Stay Hydrated

When the body is dehydrated, it retains the fluids and causes swelling. Despite the fact that swelling is caused by fluid retention, drinking water can help to minimize swelling.

To minimize swelling, drink 8-10 glasses of water every day.

Ice pack/Compression

An ice pack is the best treatment for swelling. If it is caused by an injury in the foot or ankle, one can apply an ice pack or wear a compression bandage.

This treatment also works when swelling is caused by the intake of alcohol. Keeping feet in cold water is another way of treating swelling caused by drinking alcohol.

Moreover, compression socks apply pressure on the foot or legs which improves blood flow.

Salt Bath

Salt help to alleviate swelling and inflammation. Soak your legs in lukewarm water with Epsom salts for 15 to 20 minutes to relax muscles and reduce edema.

If you don't have a bathtub, locate a bucket large enough to accommodate at least one leg at a time, with the water covering your legs up to your knees.

Moreover, Epsom salt pulls out toxins and promotes relaxation.

Increase potassium-rich foods

A lack of potassium also causes elevated blood pressure and water retention. If you don't have any dietary limitations, you need to eat potassium-rich foods to minimize swelling.

Sweet potatoes, bananas, salmon, chicken, and white beans are high in potassium and should be consumed if your feet are swollen.

Also, you need to consult a doctor before increasing potassium consumption if you have kidney problems.
