KPN has chosen Sweden’s Ericsson to build core elements of its new 5G mobile network following a decision last year not to select China’s Huawei, the Dutch telecoms company said on Thursday.

Huawei is effectively banned in the United States and Washington had expressed fears that if KPN’s 5G backbone contained Huawei equipment it would be vulnerable to spying by the Chinese state.

Huawei, the world’s biggest telecoms equipment and smartphone vendor has denied U.S. allegations that it is ultimately answerable to the Chinese government and is therefore a security risk.

KPN said in April 2019 that it would select a Western supplier to build its core 5G mobile network, making it one of the first European operators to eliminate Huawei.

In its statement on Thursday, KPN said it “will collaborate with Ericsson” for the implementation of its core 5G technology.

No financial details of the deal with Ericsson were disclosed.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE BUYING A AIR CONDITIONER

On Monday, the US BIS (Bureau of Industry and Security) within the Department of Commerce has announced that it will further limit Huawei from accessing US chips. According to the press release, Huawei has been able to circumvent the ban by purchasing American components through third-party companies.

The US Department of commerce will ban 38 companies all directly affiliated with Huawei across 21 countries, which have been used to go around the US ban that the Trump Administration extended through May 2021, according to the BIS.

The affiliate companies listed are all branches of Huawei that operate outside of China including design and Huawei Cloud centers, as well as some of its R&D centers throughout Europe.

Everything in the press release was intentionally meant to limit Huawei from doing business with the United States big tech companies. In fear that the “Chinese Communist Party” will direct Huawei to fulfill a scheme against US officials or US citizens.

According to APNews earlier this month citing a Huawei executive, the Chinese telecom giant is running out of processor chips and will have to eventually cease production of its high-end Kirin processors. Perhaps May 2021 will bring about better news for Huawei.

Apple is announcing a new iPhone 12 mini today. It’s the first time Apple has used the “mini” moniker on its iPhone line, after using it on the iPod mini, iPad mini, and Mac mini previously. The new iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4-inch screen, which means Apple has squeezed a larger display than the 4.7-inch screen found on this year’s iPhone SE into an iPhone 12 mini handset that’s smaller overall.

Apple has made the $729 iPhone 12 mini smaller by removing Touch ID and replacing it with Face ID, alongside a significant reduction in bezels around the display. Apple claims it’s the smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G phone in the world.

Like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini uses Apple’s A14 Bionic, a 5nm chip with better energy efficiency and performance than the A13. It includes a six-core CPU (two high and four low) that Apple claims are 50 percent faster than the A13 chip. It also includes a four-core GPU, which Apple claims will enable “console-quality games.”

The iPhone 12 mini shares the rest of the main iPhone 12 specs and design, too. The iPhone 12 mini has flat aluminum sides that now match the iPad Pro and iPad Air (and are similar to the iPhone 4 from 10 years ago).

The shared specs include a 12-megapixel f/1.6 main camera — the fastest aperture in any iPhone yet — and a 12MP ultrawide. Apple has improved low-light performance on the iPhone 12 mini, and the front-facing camera will also include its own Night Mode.

The display glass on the iPhone 12 mini is also coated with what Apple describes as a “Ceramic Shield” for better durability. Water and dust resistance has also been improved to an IP68 rating.

Apple is also using the new MagSafe magnet system on the iPhone 12 mini. It supports wireless chargers (including Qi-enabled devices), case accessories, and even leather wallets that all snap onto the rear of the device.

Apple’s iPhone 12 mini is priced starting at $729 and will be available in five color options: blue, green, black, white, and red, Preorders for the iPhone 12 mini will begin on November 6th at 5AM PT / 8AM ET, with the handset shipping on November 13th.

Correction: Apple originally announced the iPhone 12 Mini would cost $699. The MSRP is actually $729. That lower price only applies after a $30 discount from specific carriers.

Huawei is lately innovating and developing almost every gadget and accessory from smartphones to smartwatches. The previously introduced Huawei Watch GT 2e is the successor of the Huawei Watch GT 2 which was launched in Nepal way back. Huawei Watch GT 2e has some upgrades compared to the GT 2 and is available in Nepal.

Design and Display

As compared to Huawei GT 2, GT 2e has more of a sporty look and is bigger than the predecessor. Huawei GT 2e has a stainless steel frame and rectangular buttons instead of the circular buttons like the GT 2 which makes the watch looks more alluring. The watch has 46.8mm of thickness and is more streamlined and sporty.

Also, it has a fitness-oriented TPU band instead of a leather band. As it is water-resistant, you can wear it while swimming and also while in rain. 

The display of the smartwatch is 1.39 inches AMOLED display with a resolution of 454×454 pixels.

Performance

Alike the Huawei GT 2, the Huawei GT 2e also has the Kirin A1. The storage of the watch is also the same with 4GB onboard storage. However, only 2.2GB of storage is only used.

Sensors

The Huawei GT 2e is a smartwatch that also is a fitness tracker; so, it comes with various options to keep track of your fitness. The sensors in the GT 2e is similar to its predecessor. It has an optical heart rate sensor for continuous heart rate monitoring, a SpO2 sensor to monitor the oxygen level in the blood, Huawei TruSleep 2.0 to monitor your sleep and diagnose sleep issues, and many more. It can monitor your stress level with the Huawei TruRelax and can also help you with breathing training. Besides, it also has 15 professional sports mode and custom workout modes.

Connectivity

Huawei GT 2e is compatible with Bluetooth V5.1 and has a stable connection within a 10m distance; however, it does not have wifi connectivity.

Battery

The battery life of the Huawei GT 2e is the same as its predecessor i.e. 455mAh that can last up to 2 weeks.
