Modern tech Substitutes for traditional method of cooking

10th October 2020
"You don't have to struggle for hours in prepping the food anymore."

As technology advances, our life and lifestyle are getting more convenient. We don't have to suffer the smoke from the firewood anymore, thanks to the invention of the gas stove. Moreover, now, we can cook without using natural gas as well, thanks to the invention of induction and electric stoves. Besides the stove, there are several invention and innovation going around the world and are making our lives easier to live. Let's talk about a few inventions which have brought wonders to our kitchen.

Mixer grinder

Every Asian know the mortar pestle and the struggle to grind the foods and make a thin paste. This struggle was permanently eliminated by mixer grinder. You don't have to sit crouching down hurting your legs and struggling to grind the foods into thin particles anymore. With mixer grinders, you can easily grind the food into thin particles without hurting your legs or hands in just a few seconds. If you haven't yet, then do consider buying a set of mixer grinders to ease your struggle grinding the food paste in mortar and pestle.

Electric or induction stoves

Normally, every kitchen in this century comprises of a gas stove. However, we can see many people protesting and seeking out for ways to preserve the natural gas and promote modern ways of cooking as the natural gas, as per different researches, is going to be extinct with such rate of usage. In order to solve the problem, electric or induction stoves were invented to use artificial energy and save natural energy. Besides, with electric or induction stoves, you don't have to worry about accidentally burning your house.

Slicers and choppers

Slicers and choppers are not any forms of electric equipment, rather they are the manual form of innovation. Even so, slicers reduce the struggle one faces while slicing the potatoes to make chips using a knife. And choppers reduce the struggle of chopping the huge cabbages and veggies using a knife. They are efficient and save our effort and time.

Rice cookers

Rice cooker is an old invention yet they have reduced a lot of struggle to cook the perfect tasty rice. Primitively, kasaudi was used, especially in South Asia, for cooking rice which required a lot of work; and, I must say cooking rice in a kasaudi is one great workout for your arm muscles. Then, pressure cookers were invented which reduced the struggle of kasaudis. Then, finally, rice cookers were invented with which one can cook rice perfectly and won't have to worry about overcooking or undercooking the rice as with their sensors, they automatically stop cooking once the rice is fully cooked. Moreover, there are many advanced features in a rice cooker- you can cook rice perfectly as your choice- be it for perfect sticky rice or for normal rice.

Dough kneader

The kneading dough can be pretty tough and hard work. There are many people who avoid foods for whose preparation dough is needed. But, the invention of dough kneader reduced the pain and struggle. Pour the flour and water in the basin, turn the dough kneader on, and, if necessary, pour extra flour or water, then you have your perfectly kneaded dough

Roti maker

Roti maker has brought wonders to chapati (tortilla) lovers. With a roti maker, you can prepare the dough- make small portions for roti, put the portion in the roti maker, press it, and there you have your delicious roti/ chapati. You don't have to struggle hours preparing the dough, rolling the dough into chapatis, and cooking it.

Demand for robot cooks rises as kitchens combat COVID-19

14th July 2020
"Robots that can cook - from flipping burgers to baking bread - are in growing demand as virus-wary kitchens try to put some distance between workers and customers."

Robots that can cook - from flipping burgers to baking bread - are in growing demand as virus-wary kitchens try to put some distance between workers and customers.

Starting this fall, the White Castle burger chain will test a robot arm that can cook french fries and other foods. The robot, dubbed Flippy, is made by Pasadena, California-based Miso Robotics.

White Castle and Miso have been discussing a partnership for about a year. Those talks accelerated when COVID-19 struck, said White Castle Vice President Jamie Richardson.

Richardson said the robot can free up employees for other tasks like disinfecting tables or handling the rising number of delivery orders. A touch-free environment that minimizes contact is also increasingly important to customers, he said.

“The world’s just reshaped in terms of thoughts around food safety,” Richardson said.

Flippy currently costs $30,000, with a $1,500 monthly service fee. By the middle of next year, Miso hopes to offer the robot for free but charge a higher monthly fee.

Robot food service was a trend even before the coronavirus pandemic, as hospitals, campus cafeterias and others tried to meet demand for fresh, customized options 24 hours a day while keeping labor costs in check. Robot chefs appeared at places like Creator, a burger restaurant in San Francisco, and Dal.komm Coffee outlets in South Korea.

Now, some say, robots may shift from being a novelty to a necessity. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control says the risk of getting COVID-19 from handling or consuming food outside the home is low. Still, there have been numerous outbreaks among restaurant employees and patrons.

“I expect in the next two years you will see pretty significant robotic adoption in the food space because of COVID,” said Vipin Jain, the co-founder and CEO of Blendid, a Silicon Valley startup.

Blendid sells a robot kiosk that makes a variety of fresh smoothies. Customers can order from a smartphone app and tweak the recipe if they want more kale or less ginger, for example. Once or twice a day, a Blendid employee refills the ingredients.

Only a handful are now operating around San Francisco, but since the pandemic began, Blendid has started contract discussions with hospitals, corporations, shopping malls and groceries.

“What used to be forward-thinking - last year, pre-COVID - has become current thinking,” Jain said.

As salad bars shut down, Hayward, California-based Chowbotics started getting more inquiries about Sally, a robot about the size of a refrigerator that makes a variety of salads and bowls. Sally lets customers choose from 22 prepared ingredients stored inside the machine. It can make around 65 bowls a day before kitchen workers need to refill the ingredients.

Prior to this year, Chowbotics had sold around 125 of its $35,000 robots, primarily to hospitals and colleges. But since the coronavirus hit, sales have jumped more than 60%, CEO Rick Wilmer said, with growing interest from grocery stores, senior living communities and even the U.S. Department of Defense.

Wilkinson Baking Co., whose BreadBot mixes, forms and bakes loaves of bread, has also been getting more inquiries. Randall Wilkinson, the CEO of the Walla Walla, Washington-based company, said the BreadBot serves shifting needs. Grocery shoppers no longer want self-serve options like olive bars, but they still want fresh and local food. Seeing how that food is made also gives them more confidence, he said.

Robot cooks haven’t always been successful. Spyce, a Boston restaurant with a robot-run kitchen, closed in November to retool its menu. Zume, a Silicon Valley startup that made pizzas with robots, shut down its pizza business in January. It’s now making face masks and biodegradable takeout containers.

Max Elder, research director of the Food Futures Lab at the Palo Alto, California-based Institute for the Future, is skeptical about the future of food prep robots once the pandemic has eased.

“Food is so personal, and it needs to involve humans,” he said.

Elder is also concerned that focusing on automating food preparation during the pandemic will shift attention from other problems in the food system, like outbreaks among meat industry workers or produce pickers.

“We can’t automate our way out of the pandemic because the pandemic affects much more than what can be automated,” Elder said.

Automated food companies insist they’re not trying to replace human workers. At White Castle, Richardson says Flippy will allow managers to redeploy workers to drive-thru lanes or help them cover a shift if an employee calls in sick. Wilmer, of Chowbotics, says Sally may actually create jobs, since it keeps selling food at times of day when it wouldn’t have been available before.

But robots can lower the demand for labor. At the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, workers used to spend six hours per day prepping grab-and-go salads in the 24-hour cafe, said Tonya Johnson, the school’s director of nutrition services. But two years ago, the campus installed a Sally, which now makes an average of 40 salads per day. Sally allowed the school to eliminate a vacancy in its cooking staff, Johnson said.

Johnson said the campus is buying another Sally for students to use when they return this August, which will save four hours per day of grab-and-go salad prep in the college deli.

“I think the pandemic has made us realize how much we need more equipment like Sally,” Johnson said.

Miso Robotics co-founder and CEO Buck Jordan said fast food restaurants are already having trouble finding workers, due in part to a shrinking population of young workers.

“It’s our contention that automation is not a choice,” Jordan said. “You must automate in order to survive the future.”

Kitchen Cabinet & Drawer Organizers Idea

16th September 2020
"Always keep your kitchen organized."

Organizers have made our life and surrounding managed and tidy. Organizers, in simple words, are the compartments or containers made either of plastic, steel, glass, or wood to help us manage our clothes, utensils, accessories, makeup, and many more. Organizers help us to declutter the space. The kitchen organiser is highly recommended for efficient time management.

While talking about Kitchen, every house has several supplies (plates, bowls, spoons, pans, spatulas, etc.) and food, fruits, and ingredients that must be managed to keep the kitchen tidy.

Organizers for food

A pantry in every house is always a paradise with all the delicious foods and supplies in it. But managing that paradise could really be hard work. However, as the food containers and compartment dividers aka organizers became available to the market, the glory of the paradise complemented. With organizers we won’t have to dig out all the veggies to find a tomato; nor do we have to flip through every supply and vex searching for the snacks.

There are compartment dividers that help you divide the drawers or racks into the different compartment; so that, you can easily separate your potatoes, tomatoes, and other veggies or separate different sections for spices, tea, and coffee, honey, and many more.

On the other hand, you can get some food containers to store your chips separate from other snacks; your junk food from other healthy foods, and many more.

Organizers for kitchen supplies

Your pans, spoons, spatulas, and other supplies are worth being placed beautifully in their own compartments of the organizers. The culture of organizing the kitchen supply is not totally new as people used to traditionally store their plates on the wooden rack, hang the spatulas on the wall, and make towers while storing bowls and many more. But, talking about modern organizers, there are advanced dish racks, compartments allocated for different kind of supplies, etc

Dish racks are often seen in every household. They come with some holders for spatulas, plates, some compartments for spoons, and forks. Often dish racks are used to store the utensils and supplies after they’re washed up.

Drawer Compartments, on the other hand, are simply the drawers on your kitchen racks with some holders for the supplies suitable- Like the ones for spoons come with some compartments separated within to store spoons and forks.

Tips for taking care of your refrigerator | Reviews Nepal

26th September 2020
"Are you thinking about cleaning your refrigerator? But are you worried about how? If yes, then worry no more and read further."

Are you searching for tips to take care of your refrigerator? Or, are you worried about how to clean your refrigerator? Then, worry no more. Here we are at your aid with some tips and tricks on taking care of your refrigerator.

Location

Many people ignore the fact that the location of the refrigerator is prominent. Don't place the refrigerator in a hot area and make sure that the place is well-ventilated. Also, for the condenser to work adequately, make sure the refrigerator stands at least 15 cm away from the wall. The leveling of the refrigerator should be checked thoroughly as the doors of unleveled refrigerators will not close properly and cause condensation, in plain words, the refrigerator will not function properly.

Storing foods

Refrigerators are significantly used for storing foods; but, the foods stored may cause some damage to the refrigerator. Make sure that the foods that give awful odors are tightly closed in containers so that they won't cause any contamination to other foods. Also, in case of cut veggies, fruits, and foods, make sure to cover them with plastic before storing them.

Defrost

Defrosting your refrigerator is essential to prevent from bacterias and contaminations. So, it's better to defrost your refrigerator once in a while. Best if you defrost it once a month.

Cleaning the refrigerator

Cleaning the refrigerator can be quite stressful for some people as they don't know what should be used and what should be avoided to clean it. While cleaning, make sure to turn off the temperature control prior to unplugging the refrigerator. Any kind of soap or soap-based detergent should be avoided. Best if you clean your refrigerator with a soft sponge and a solution of 2 tbsp of baking soda and 2 cups of water, and then rinse it off, then finally dry with paper towels. Also, don't forget to dust the condenser as well.

Don't store hot foods

If you want your refrigerator to last long and stay in good condition, don't store any hot foods inside it as it manipulates the temperature inside and hinders the temperature control.

Cold is better

You might have been already instructed about the temperature suitable for your refrigerator. Normally, its best to set the temperature between 3 to 5 degrees celsius. However, you may change the temperature as the season changes. The instructions for the temperature can be found in the refrigerator below the temperature control in some brands as well.

Think and open

Most of the people open and wander through every compartment searching for food and inspiration to cook. Well, it's not healthy for your refrigerator. First figure out what you want to eat or cook, then open the refrigerator. Opening the refrigerator for a longer period of time will cause a loss of 7% of cold temperature leading to unnecessary energy expenditure.
