They begin with two teaser images that show the headlamps and taillights of the micro-SUV. The AX1 will follow Hyundai's SUV design language, as evidenced by previous images of the test mule, with split headlamps upfront. The headlamp teaser image shows a circular projector unit set within the bumper. The unit has an LED DRL ring, and the upper portion of the image also provides illumination.
The unit has an LED DRL ring, and the upper portion of the image shows the upper light cluster, which most likely houses the turn indicators.
The tail-lamp image shows a unit with intricate triangular patterning – most likely LED modules. The same can be seen in some spy images of the car's rear that have circulated the internet. Spy photos show that the AX1 will have split light clusters at the rear, with secondary units in the bumper housing the reverse light and indicators.
Hyundai AX1: What We Know So Far Hyundai confirmed the development of a micro-SUV in 2018, with spy shots of test mules circulating on various websites by 2020. The test mules indicate that the AX1 will have the upright proportions of an SUV, with the SUV measuring around 3.7-3.8m, making it smaller than the Hyundai Venue.
While more information is awaited, the AX1 is expected to be built on Hyundai's K1 platform, which also serves as the foundation for the Grand i10 Nios in India. The compact SUV will most likely use Santro's 1.2-litre petrol engine, though lower models may use Santro's 1.1-litre unit to save money.
Hyundai AX1: India launch and competitors
The AX1 is expected to enter series production first in Korea, with trial production already underway. The model will have its world premiere in the coming months and will be available for purchase in Korea by September of this year. The AX1 is expected to arrive in India sometime in the future as a competitor to the upcoming Tata HBX compact SUV, as well as models such as the Mahindra KUV100 and Maruti Ignis.
