Nissan Sunny: Up for the next generation Sunny?

16th April 2019
"New generation car for a new generation of people."

Nissan Sunny is one of the most loved sedans in Nepal. But, it hasn’t received much attention as other sedans and tends to be much underrated. Taking such things into consideration, the Japanese manufacturer has released the new generation of the sedan and by the pictures, it is sure to burn the sedan market. Internationally, the car is named “Versa” and “Almera”. This new Sunny is based on Nissan’s updated V platform and shares its cabin with the Nissan Kicks.

The inspiration for the new Sunny is the Nissan X-Trail and Kicks. The front part of the car has the company’s signature V-shaped grille. The headlights are modified into a more slim and angular, making it look modern than its predecessor. Above this, the sides, floating roof, and new alloys add the spices needed for making it more modern and stylish. The tail is redesigned and it looks sportier.

The sedan’s cabin looks almost as same as Nissan Kicks’. The touchscreen infotainment system floats in the center console just below the HVAC controls. The steering wheel and the leather interiors in the dashboard also look similar to that of Kicks’. Powering the new Nissan Sunny is 1.6-liter petrol mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT that makes 124 bhp, while a diesel engine is also to be provided. The same engine does duty on the international spec of the Nissan Kicks SUV.

Nissan Embraces Post-Brexit Britain For Auto Production And May Double Output - Reviews

24th January 2021
"Nissan could double production to up to 700,000 cars and SUVs per year of it’s Sunderland plant."

Japan's Nissan said the Brexit deal in Britain would be an overall plus for its local Sunderland factory, which could double production to up to 700,000 cars and SUVs per year, and became a huge benefit for its electric vehicles.

Toyota, Honda, Tata Motors of India's, Jaguar Land Rover, BMW's Mini and Stellantis's Vauxhall are also currently the major car manufacturers in Britain. The long-term future of the auto industry has been challenged following Britain's withdrawal agreement with the European Union. Honda has already agreed to shut its factory in Britain.

The EU's free trade agreement with Japan indicated that the likes of Toyota and Nissan would discover that factories in Europe were not needed. In particular, it was thought that Nissan was considering moving Honda out of the region.

A change of heart, particularly with its focus on the future of electric vehicles, was the news from Tokyo that Nissan now had optimistic thoughts about the future of its British plant.

Whether other manufacturers see the future in the same way remains to be seen.

Brexit for Nissan is a positive. We’ll take this opportunity to redefine the auto industry in the U.K.,” said Nissan chief operating officer Ashwani Gupta, according to Britain’s Daily Telegraph.

In certain circumstances, our competitiveness is improved (by Brexit). For some of the cases it is par. It depends on which car, but competitiveness is definitely improved in electric vehicles,” Gupta said.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomed the news.

Gupta said the Sunderland plant could nearly double production.

Gupta said reports were exaggerated that new border controls could be a major barrier to imports and exports.

To fill a form at the border is nothing. People are prepared for it,” Gupta said.

After Brexit, many analysts questioned the long-term future of the mass car manufacturers of the British auto industry, claiming they would have to move direction to lower production with greater value. They will have to shift upmarket because in mass market cars, other global suppliers would be more successful.
