5 Reasons to Wear a Helmet

15th January 2021
"It is a luxury to drive a motorcycle and a perfect way for many users to get around."

The figures remain constant, though helmet regulations vary from state to state. Those that use a helmet are far less likely to experience a severe head injury in a collision while riding a motorcycle, bicycle, scooter, or skiing. The reason why people don't wear helmets, you've probably learned, is because they screw up their hair, they're bulky, they're too warm, or they don't really assist prevent accidents or save lives. Or you may have learned that a helmet might just save your life, but will leave you in a vegetative state.

That's the law

This is a fair enough excuse to wear a helmet.

It is a luxury to drive a motorcycle and a perfect way for many users to get around. You would not like to get fined for doing something you enjoy, especially when the fine is so easily preventable and you and your safety will greatly benefit from following the rules. Even if there are no helmet laws in your country, if you cross the border, then that state could require a helmet, and if you're not wearing one, you might be fined.

They reduce the risk of injury to the brain.

This is a primary justification for wearing a helmet while riding a bike. Helmets do not completely eradicate brain injury, but they are around 67 percent successful in avoiding certain forms of injuries, as mentioned earlier. The last thing anyone wants is for there to be a serious accident, regardless of who is at fault. Injured riders would even need to contact brain injury lawyers at times. This may be because the operator is not at fault and the insurance company of the at-fault driver is not prepared to cover any (or all) of the damages incurred to not only the motorcycle but also medical expenses.

Shielding helmets from loose gravel and other parts

Wearing a helmet can help you avoid hazards that can kick up from the road and onto your face, including rocks or other forms of debris. A helmet will also avoid dust from getting into your eyes and other stuff, which may impair your vision and lead to an accident. This may involve rain, wind, and sunshine.

Visibility is improved by helmets

Motorcyclists are, sadly, harder to see on the road than other vehicles. Even so, as a function of several helmets including reflectors or other types of materials that make them more conspicuous, a helmet may enhance the appearance of a wearer.

Saving lives

If more motorcycle drivers wore helmets, more lives might have been saved. Accidents involving motorcycles happen. They are not inherently more common than incidents involving cars and trucks, but riders are more vulnerable to serious injury. You might be a safe and vigilant driver, but there are still accidents. Luckily, helmets can help avoid severe accidents and death, and any time they ride, motorcyclists should wear them.

Tips for long-lasting tyres

20th September 2020
"Tyres are sometimes the major expense of your car after fuel so ensure you get the full benefit of your investment."

Tyres are sometimes the major expense of your car after fuel so ensure you get the full benefit of your investment. It takes good maintenance and treatment to get the best out of your tyres. Once in 4-5 years, you will need a replacement. However, your tyre could easily be ripped down to shreds by the end of that time, if due care was not taken to it.

The following easy tips are not just a way to enhance your tyres' durability but also boost overall fuel economy, driving behavior and, perhaps significantly, your general safe driving.

Monthly check of tyre inflation

Too much-inflated tyres will unexpectedly bounce you around, poorly-inflated tyres cause you to lose handling characteristics and make your fuel expenses even more. What's even worse is that tyres that are significantly poorly-inflated can overheat and burst.

Look for the best pressure for your tyres, front and back. Don’t forget to check your tyres every month. You can even set a reminder if you have trouble remembering it.

Check your wheels for balance

When you get your tires rotated, you can also get your wheels balanced. And if you use a two-wheeler then need not do this, you can just do your tyre rotation. There's a heavy spot inside every tire and wheel. None of them is perfect, even though they are completely new. The gap is slight, estimated in 1 to 1⁄2 ounces. But vibration and uneven tire wear can be caused by that slight difference. Using a special device and small weights your technician can stabilize any wheel. As when the tire wears, the weight will need to be shifted or changed. It is a quick, easy cycle that costs far less than a new tire! Please ensure throughout rotation you have the balance of your tires tested and balanced.

To preserve the life of your tyres, you need to minimize the repetitive and sudden braking. Sudden acceleration also leads to reducing tire’s wear similarly. Standard tyres, not ideal for power slides or burnouts. Even if you are enticed by the scent of burnt rubber, stop any of those gimmicks on your tyres. They put undue pressure on the tyres, reducing life faster than expected.

Always carry out pre-travel examinations

Before any ride, this should be something you do. The tires should always be provided with a pre-trip examination of key structures for road preparation. Test the tyre pressure, check at the condition of the tyres, and be prepared to tackle troubles before hitting the roadway to mitigate the damage.

Don't forget to carry a spare tyre!

Heavy loads

Motorcycles are light and heavy, and people either slim or obese. We may raise the tension of the tyres to accommodate more weight (within the prescribed edges) understanding this factor. If we add a traveler and a load to it, we should apply further pressure to the prescribed maximum limit to sustain this big load.

Anyway, aim to make the bike as light as possible. The heavier the load is, the more the damage is, so we can obey guidelines like emptying the saddle bars and the top case or removing them if we don't need it. We may also decrease the weight of the unwanted stuff taken from other boxes and the storage of the under the seat.

How to clean Motorcycle Helmet?

3rd January 2021
"It rarely takes more than a few strategic tugs to remove the internal liner and cheek pads to start the cleaning process."

Motorcycle helmets are supposed to be used all the time-rain, shine, mud pits, and heatwaves. It has the most critical job (protecting the skull and its contents). Knowing how to clean and preserve your motorcycle helmet will not only protect you from having a dank inner lining around your ears, it will also help to prolong your helmet's lifespan and get rid of stinky smell. Some steps on how to clean a motorcycle helmet are as follows:

clean-helmet

Step 1: Motorcycle helmet cleaning materials

Getting things in order from the beginning, as with any production, can go a long way towards making the best use of your time when cleaning a motorcycle helmet. In order to clean the helmet, you should have a soft towel, toothbrush, shampoo, and warm water. These materials will help you to clean your helmet like a pro.

Step 2: Remove any electronics and external accessories

You should make sure to remove all internal electrical devices such as speakers, antennas, batteries, and the Bluetooth communicator units they mount before you wash a motorcycle helmet. In addition, whether you're working on a dual-sport or off-road helmet that has a peak, removing it and washing it separately is much simpler.

Step 3: Remove the helmet's interior

Although many companies have somewhat different styles, it rarely takes more than a few strategic tugs to remove the internal liner and cheek pads. Comfort pads and liners are attached with snaps in most situations, but others use hook-and-loop fabrics or even magnets. Be sure to check the owner's manual for details. Put these on the side until you have cut the cheek pads and mainliner.

Step 4: Clean the interior lining

The interior of a motorcycle helmet is always the one that needs to be cleaned the most. The padding of your motorcycle helmet soaks up lots of grime, from facial sweat to hair spray. Fill a sink, shower, or bucket with warm water and baby shampoo while washing the lining of your motorcycle helmet, and then dunk, rinse, and massage each piece of your helmet liner in the soapy water. For this job, baby shampoo works well as it is super soft, but also clearly formulated to scrub away sweat and hair oil. Let the helmet liner and cheek pads air dry when done.

Step 5: Clean the motorcycle helmet's exterior

Take the face shield off and set it aside after removing the damp rag that you put on the helmet. To gently work your way around the surface of the helmet, use a new, damp soft towel to brush away any remaining soil. Always make careful to use only warm water when washing your motorcycle helmet. The exterior of your helmet can be affected by some solvents and cleaning solutions. For hard-to-reach places, the toothbrush will come in handy.

Step 6: Clean the face shield

Most typical face shields have a protective coating of some sort. For that cause, and much like the outside of your helmet itself, when cleaning a motorcycle face shield, you can never use anything other than warm water. Ultimately, just using a damp soft towel and softly massaging away any dirt, grit, or smudges is the easiest way to wash a motorcycle face mask. As for the outside of the helmet, leaving a damp rag draped over the face shield for several minutes softens the remnants of the crusty bug and renders it soft, and makes the job easier.

Step 7: Wipe down the internal sun shield

If there is an internal sun shield on your helmet, it is actually not very dusty. Fast sprits of water and wipe down with a microfiber towel will do the trick if the drop-down visor has become a little dirty over time, though. It is better to keep it in place when washing unless you are stubborn in your determination to remove the whole sun visor since it can be a bear to bring back into place once removed.

Step 8: Reassemble the helmet

Reassemble your helmet starting with the dry liner and cheek pads. Reattach your face shield and any other pieces that you removed prior to cleaning.

How to pick motorcycle tyres? Reviews

14th January 2021
"Manufacturers are increasingly going towards tubeless tyres so there is immediate leakage in the event of a puncture when the air makes a path through the tube, the tyre and the rim opening."

Tyres are the key components of a motorcycle that help one to get the bike onto a surface like a stand without aids. For maximum quality, performance and handling, the correct tyres are what you need. So how do you pick your motorcycle's best tyres?

There are four major types of tyres to begin with; tube form, tubeless, bias-ply and radial.

Tube-type tyres consist of the valve and rim tyres and valve tubes. Manufacturers are increasingly going towards tubeless tyres so there is immediate leakage in the event of a puncture when the air makes a path through the tube, the tyre and the rim opening.

In the other side, tubeless tyres consist of an internal conduit that is integral to the tyre.

tyres

Even, bias-ply tyres do not easily shed heat and have a rigid sidewall because all the belts extend from sidewall to sidewall. Radial tyre cables, on the other hand, dissipate heat faster and the fewer cord layers on the sidewall allow the tyre to bend further. Touring motorcycles are also more likely to use bias-ply tyres because they have load carrying power and durability, whereas supersport or streetfighter motorcycles would prefer stronger grip radials.

Now that you know the forms, based on the tread pattern and compound, you would need to further settle on a tyre.

What are the compound and the tread pattern?

The compound is the material that forms the bulk of the tyre. Tread, on its circumference, refers to the rubber that makes contact with the road. The tread is made of the tyre's crown and its shoulders. On the other hand, the tread pattern is the arrangement on the tyre that involves channels and grooves that occur to steer water away from the touch patch. This, in damp weather, stops the tyre from losing traction on the ground.

Various bikes and riding conditions need various tyres. For starters, soft slick tyres are commonly used by MotoGP bikes so the more rubber they have in contact with the road, the more traction they can have. They do use tyres with a tread pattern, though, when racing in the mud. Patterns, for that matter, are also seen on road bikes and scooters. In the other hand, touring bikes use a hard compound tyre that offers a large variety of textures, climates and temperatures with toughness and reliable performance.

Size

You should match the required rim size for the tyre you select. It would definitely give you more grip when using tyres that are much larger than the acceptable size, but they are not inherently stronger. This could lead to less mobility as well as hampering acceleration and suspension activitie.

Bikes such as this Ducati Monster 797 use large tyres to provide the huge amount of power that is transmitted to the rear wheel for greater traction and grip. It also assists with the bike's aesthetics.

Motorcycles still use wide tyres in the 200cc-400cc segment, but not as wide as larger bikes of greater size. A performance-oriented, high-horsepower 390 Duke would have a harder compound than a Pulsar 220, which is more longevity-oriented. The stiffness depends on the kind of motorcycle it is.

Commuter bikes such as this TVS Victor are fitted with skinny tyres as they concentrate more on feature than shape. These types of tyres are fine, along with being long-lasting, for handling and manoeuvrability in traffic; thanks to the hard compound they are made of.

To complement the body type of the segment, most scooters feature tyres that are narrower in diameter. On the traditional 12-inch front and 10-inch rear tyre system, the Honda Grazia runs. There are few exceptions, however, such as the Aprilia SR150 that uses 14-inch wheels.

This Royal Enfield Himalayan runs on something called dual-purpose tyres, such as adventure touring bikes. Thanks to their tread pattern, these tyres can be used on tarmac as well as gravel and sand, as their name implies. These tyres have a 'block pattern' that can dig into the soil for extra traction and drive out gravel or debris.
