MG Motors to launch Its Entry Level EV in India

MG plans to introduce an entry-level electric car in India and as per the latest reports, it will be based on the Wuling Air EV. MG India’s small EV (codenamed: E230) is said to use the company’s Global Small Electric Vehicles (GSEV) platform. It will be modified to better suit Indian driving conditions.
The E230 will retain Wuling Air’s quirky 2-door body style. It is said that the Indian version could get alloy wheels instead of the 12-inch steelies as well as a new name.
The report also states that MG’s small EV will be offered with a 39 BHP electric motor and a 20-25 kWh battery pack offering around 150 km of range.
The battery will be sourced from Tata AutoComp. It is said that the E230 is likely to be priced at around Rs 10 lakh.
To justify the hefty price tag, MG plans to offer a slew of features including a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and other connectivity features.
While official details are yet to be revealed, we understand the India-bound MG EV will have a 2,010mm wheelbase and will only stretch the tape to around 2.9 meters in length, making the EV about 400mm shorter than the Maruti Alto.
MG India sees this small footprint as a virtue, especially in crowded cities where it is difficult to maneuver and park.
The MG E230 EV is expected to be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo.
