Samsung phone shipments fall below 300Million

27th December 2020
"Samsung ships fewer than 300 million phones for the first time in 9 years"

Samsung, a leading smartphone company is reported to not be able to hit the 300 million phone sales mark this year. This is the first time in 9 years that the company has not been able to sell 300 million phones. Manufacturers are likely to reach 270 million shipments.

Samsung had confirmed the shipping of 189 million phones by the end of the third quarter of 2020, which is a pretty good number amidst the pandemic this year. Still, the company had set a goal to hit 307 million units in 2021. As it has been expanding its mid-range and low-end 5G smartphone lineup and is promoting its foldable models more.

About 287 million units are going to be smartphones, while the rest are expected to be feature phones. Of those 287 million smartphones, almost 50 million are likely going to be flagship models. This fall in numbers turns out to be the result of a busy year in sales due to the current state of the global epidemic. However, Samsung already plans to recover next year.

Samsung Tri-fold Rollable Display Official Plans Hinted

23rd October 2021
"Regarding the changes in cell phone screens, there seems to be endless imagination now"

As we all know, Samsung is currently in the first tier of the folding screen cell phone market. Samsung recently showed two different possible future forms of the folding screen on the press release page of its official Samsung Display news blog, which is in line with the contents of Samsung’s patent, and it is expected that Samsung is developing related models to turn the idea into reality.
Of course, Samsung is only hinting at the official blog, and no other content has been announced. The main intention is to display relevant content and reveal that Samsung Display has related plans.

Regarding the changes in cell phone screens, there seems to be endless imagination now, and recently, Samsung’s Samsung Display gave a very interesting picture that seems to indicate the future direction of Samsung products in terms of screens.

As you can see from the picture, Samsung phones with tri-fold screens and Samsung phones with rollable screens have appeared, and the current Galaxy Z Fold2 only realizes word folding, but after the beginning, the rest of the way is easy, does this mean that future Samsung phones can realize such tri-fold operation on the screen?

The other rollable screen is not yet in mass production out of the popular, OPPO just showed this kind of concept phone form, but as we all know, the strength of the screen or to see the Samsung LG such a big old factory, Samsung just did not show rollable screen but does not mean that it does not have a Rollable screen, such a screen form may also be successfully mass production out later.

Samsung Tri-fold Device Rendering Based on Patent

According to the LetsGoDigital, In mid-2018, Samsung Display filed a design patent with the KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office). The documentation is kept secret until 17 July 2020. The patented device can be folded twice with a double hinge. Thus, the flexible display consists of 3 equal display parts equal to a big-screen tablet.
Besides, this Samsung foldable smartphone is equipped with a keyboard. It is a sliding keyboard that can be slid out of the body. The keyboard is the same size as one display part. Because it is a sliding keyboard, you can continue to use it, regardless of how the device is folded. This way you can even use the keyboard when using the phone in its most compact form. Probably some sort of locking mechanism will be built in to prevent the keyboard and/or the phone from unintentionally unfolded.

Samsung regained the top spot beating Huawei Q3: Counterpoint

11th December 2020
"Global smartphone market shipments declined 4% YoY but grew 32% QoQ to reach 366 million units in Q3 2020, Counterpoint said."

Chinese phone-maker Xiaomi has surpassed Apple to grab the third spot in the global smartphone market for the first time in the third quarter, while Samsung regained the top spot beating Huawei, Counterpoint Research said in a release on Wednesday.

The top five smartphone brands globally are Samsung (with 22% market share), Huawei (14%), Xiaomi (13%), Apple (11%), and Oppo (8%).

Samsung, which was neck-to-neck with Huawei in the second quarter with a 20% share each, has now regained the leader position while Apple for the first time fell below Xiaomi as it postponed the launch of its flagship iPhone 12 from Q3 to Q4, the research firm said.

Global smartphone sales

Though Apple has posted its best-ever quarter in markets like India and Brazil, the delayed launch has hampered its growth in key markets such as Europe and North America. Apple iPhone shipments declined 7% YoY during Q3 2020.

Xiaomi grew 75% QoQ, contributing 13% in the total smartphone shipments. Samsung regained the top spot, shipping 80.4 million units with 48% QoQ and 3% YoY growth with the highest-ever shipments in the last three years.

Global smartphone market shipments declined 4% YoY but grew 32% QoQ to reach 366 million units in Q3 2020, Counterpoint said.

   Key Highlights

  • Apple iPhone shipments declined 7% YoY during Q3 2020 as the company delayed its annual iPhone launch from Q3 to Q4. We expect Apple’s performance to bounce back in Q4 2020 with the launch of the 5G-powered iPhone 12 series.
  • OnePlus grew 2% YoY and 96% QoQ driven by the strong performance of 8 series and the Nord in key markets like India and Western Europe.
  • Huawei drove more than 40% of the total 5G shipments, thanks to strong performance in China.
  • Motorola grew 37% QoQ and 4% YoY driven by strong performance in Latin America and the US-driven by the strong performance of the E6 and G8 series.
  • Vivo has been performing well in overseas markets, especially in Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia and the Philippines, driven by its Y series.
  • OPPO is relying on operator partnerships to expand in European markets. Also, it is building partnerships with leading sports events to grow its influence across Europe.
