E-Pilen electric Husqvarna manufactured in India at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant

2nd September 2020
"The E-Pilen will be Pierer Mobility’s first electric street bike, set to launch in 2021 and will be manufactured in India by Bajaj."

KTM-Husqvarna’s parent company Pierer Mobility has, on a global scale, tried to stay ahead of the curve as far as electric motorcycles go. They have several motorcycles and e-cycles on sale in the global market, although most of them are focused on the off-road space. On the road to electrification, the brand has found shared goals with its partner in India, Bajaj Auto.

According to an investor presentation by Pierer Mobility, both brands are now working towards a new electric vehicle platform as well as a new electric Husqvarna. As part of this joint-operation, the “E-Pilen” will be manufactured in India at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant.

The presentation which gave us our first look at the upcoming E-Pilen says that Husqvarna has set 2022 as the date for a market launch.

While the presentation only gave a low-resolution first look at a sketch of the E-Pilen, it specifies power outputs for the two variants at 4kW and 10kW.

The presentation also talks about modular battery architecture, which indicates that there could be swappable batteries with the E-Pilen.

KTM and Bajaj have already been partnered on a new electric vehicle platform with power figures ranging from 3kW to 10kW using a 48V electric system. A platform that spawned the recently launched Bajaj Chetak electric, and is also likely to be the foundation for an electric KTM scooter set for sale in India in 2021.

Yamaha may look at entering electric two-wheeler segment in India

31st August 2020
"Yamaha India believes success of electric products would depend on available infrastructure, affordability and acceptance by the customers."

Japanese two-wheeler major Yamaha is currently evaluating the electric mobility ecosystem in India and can look at entering the segment in the next few years, according to a senior company official.

"We are conducting a feasibility study on EVs (electric vehicles) and are trying to understand the market requirements as well as the government's roadmap on EVs. We might introduce electric vehicles in India in the next couple of years," Yamaha Motor India Sales (Senior Vice President) Ravinder Singh told PTI.

Electric vehicles are the future of the automobile sector and have a very high potential in the long term, he added.

"India can achieve success only through a clear roadmap, stable policy and proper planning," Singh said.

There are bigger challenges related to investments in infrastructure, charging stations, battery production and swapping infrastructure for electric vehicles, he noted.

Elaborating on the company's prowess in the EV segment, he said Yamaha already has a tie-up with Taiwanese manufacturer Gogoro to develop EVs in Taiwan.

The company has already launched the EC-05 electric scooter in Taiwan last year, Singh noted.

He further said, "But as we enter the new normal phase with the unlock, we must embrace a holistic evaluation of the current scenario in order to rethink about how the automobile industry can be restored to its pre-COVID glory."

Apart from fiscal policies, the current state of businesses and their economic implications demand more discerning public policies that encourage engagement and warrant public safety, Singh said.

On new product launches, he said the company has already launched BS 6 compliant scooters Fascino and Ray ZR, and 150cc bikes like the FZs, MT-15 and R15.

Besides, the company has also introduced BS 6 compliant FZS 25 and BS 6 version of FZ 25 in the 250cc category, he added.

2021 Hyundai Tucson redesign teased ahead of Sept. 14 debut

2nd September 2020
"Tucson’s ‘Parametric Dynamics’ exterior design theme features bold, angular surfaces and cutting-edge illumination."

Hyundai Motor Company today revealed the first images of its all-new Tucson. New design highlights include the latest evolution of Hyundai’s signature headlamp architecture called ‘Parametric Hidden Lights’ and a dual-cockpit layout that offers personalized space intuitively optimized for high-tech user experience. The images hint at innovative features befitting Tucson’s signature boldness and pioneering spirit.

2021-Hyundai-Tucson

For its fourth generation, Hyundai took the all-new Tucson to the next level of automotive design, making it the first C-SUV in its class to be available in two different dimensions, while sharing the same name.

The all-new Tucson’s advanced exterior styling expresses what Hyundai designers call ‘Parametric Dynamics’ with kinetic jewel-like surface details that will have people doing a double-take. Parametric Hidden Lights provide a strong first impression. These signature DRLs (daytime running lights) are seamlessly integrated into the jewel-like grille, only revealed when turned on.

2021-Hyundai-Tucson-redesign

Overall, the new Tucson’s body is bigger and wider than previous-generation models, offering a long hood and short overhangs on a stretched wheelbase that gives it a slinky coupé-like character. From the side, angular body panels offer yet another interpretation of parametric design.

Chiseled surfaces create a striking contrast between sleek silhouette and masculine wedge, suggesting forward motion even when standing still. Taut athletic shapes seamlessly merge into angular wheel arches where alloy wheels provide a powerful and dynamic stance.

2021-Hyundai-Tuscon-redesign-teased

Tucson’s spacious interior, or INTERSPACE, is like entering a neatly organized room where everyday concerns disappear, not unlike the feeling of a modern boutique hotel where your comfort and convenience are the utmost priority. In the new Tucson, space, technology and information intersect harmoniously.

The all-new 2021 Hyundai Tucson will make its world premiere via an online live stream on Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m. PT
