Global online smartphone sales to reach new high in Covid year

29th August 2020
"Xiaomi was the leading brand in online channels across India."

Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the share of online channel sales in total global smartphone sales is expected to reach 23 per cent this year - a 3 per cent increase from last year, according to a new report. India continues to lead in online sales, with 40 per cent of all smartphones being sold online during Q1 this year. In India.

Global Online Smartphone Sales to Reach New High

The online market saw sales rise following the implementation of lockdowns and social distancing measures due to COVID-19. Xiaomi was the leading brand in online channels across India, accounting for 51 per cent of total online sales.

The company saw 67 per cent of its total sales happening online during Q1 2020. In contrast, Vivo sold only 11 per cent of its phones online. The UK recorded 35 per cent and China 30 per cent share of online sales.

"On the other hand, countries with strong offline distribution and carrier control, such as the US, Japan and South Korea, saw relatively low online sales," according to a report by Counterpoint Research.

The US recorded a 14 per cent share of online smartphone sales in 2019, which rose to 17 per cent as Covid-19 started to spread in the country.

"In terms of brands, Apple dominated online sales with 44% share. Its iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Max were the bestsellers in both online and offline channels. Samsung's Galaxy A10e was the No. 3 best-selling model in the online channel," said Yeree Yoon, Research Analyst.

Online smartphone sales in China reached 30 per cent in the first quarter of 2020. JD.com led among online platforms while Huawei smartphones ranked first in both online and offline channels. The top two brands in online were Honor and Xiaomi.

Xiaomi climbed to No1 brand in Nepal for smartphones for the first time in Q1 2020, followed by Samsung and Vivo.

COVID-19 is a global crisis which is also changing the purchasing behaviour of users worldwide. In our view, this change will continue even after the pandemic is over as it may have permanently affected the financial strength of certain distribution channels, for better or worse. Brands leveraging the growth of online will definitely ride the tide this year and next.

Which Gadget is Best Suitable for Online Education? Smartphone, Tablet or Laptop?

27th August 2020
"Smartphone, tablet or laptop ? Which one will you prefer for online learning?"

As the world is affected by the novel Coronavirus Pandemic, the teaching-learning process has shifted to online or digital approach. From elementary-level to university-level, all the classes are being conducted online throughout the world. Consequently, parents are concerned about the gadgets that could help their kids in digital learning.

People, generally, use a Smartphone, tablet or laptop for online education. Considering different factors like availability, health aspects, budget, screen, class-time, etc. the suitability of a gadget for online education differs from person to person and their age-group.

Here, we present you the device or gadget that could be efficient and suitable for you or your kids.

Smartphone

The gadget possessed by a lot of people i.e. Smartphone is handy, portable and easy to use. It is best suitable for short classes with possibly less or no slide shows or whiteboards because the screen is too small to read the content and can strain your eyes. Being handy, children can easily use it and surf the net for homework as well. The battery part may also be another disadvantage if you have longer classes. And, I personally feel that it’s difficult to do and submit homework and assignments in a Smartphone. But, if you have a limited budget, go with smartphones because something is better than nothing.

Tablet

Tablet, with a relatively large screen, is the best device for children. It won't strain the eyes as one can easily read the contents in a slide show or whiteboards. As it is easy to use, the children can join the classes on-their-own and can also surf the internet for their homework conveniently. There are several budget-friendly tablets as well which don’t lack much in functions and features. The battery aspect differs with the brand but will not cause many problems. Tablets are suitable for higher class students with a limited budget as well.

Laptop

Laptop, in my opinion, is the best gadget for online education. From attending classes to completing assignments and projects easily, it is the best device for students (from mid-school and above) and teachers. Varieties of functions, larger screen size and longer battery life are the major advantages of using a laptop for online education. However, the budget aspect can be a disadvantage as most of the good laptops are above $400 or Nrs. 40,000.

Online education, superficially, seems to be a great substitute for traditional education approach and also a step closer towards a digital world. But, it has its own consequences as well; Increase in screen-time leads to an increase in health risk as well. So, it’s better if you try to reduce the screen-time as much as possible.

ONEPLUS CLOVER: THE UPCOMING CHEAPEST ONEPLUS SMARTPHONE

15th April 2022
"OnePlus Clover, a budget-friendly smartphone, is to be launched by OnePlus later this year."

OnePlus is launching phones that don’t weaken the wallets of their customers. After the lauch of OnePlus Nord, a mid-range phone, previously this year, OnePlus Clover, an entry-level smartphone, is rumored to be next in the line.

Rumored Features of OnePlus Clover

Clover’ is a codename for this device and there is no confirmation about the name of this up-coming budget Smartphone. The OnePlus clover is expected to attract large number of average smartphone users with its price and features.

OnePlus Clover is powered by Snapdragon 460 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The phone will also come with a microSD card support.  As Clover is expected to have 6000 mAh battery with 18-W fast charging, OnePlus doesn’t seem to compromise on the battery despite being a entry-level Smartphone. The display size of 6.52-inch HD+ also seems generous, even though it's an LCD.

The OnePlus Clover, expected to launch later this year, will be the only 4G phone released by OnePlus this year. A trio of rear cameras including 13MP primary + two 2MP lenses is expected; however, there is no information about its selfie camera.

The OnePlus Clover will be a budget-friendly entry-level Smartphone costing around $200 or NRs. 19,550
