Netflix does not agree with Chinese author's views on Uighur Muslims

26th September 2020
"Five Republican U.S. senators urged Netflix this week to reconsider plans to adapt the book into a TV series."

Netflix Inc NFLX.O, in a response to U.S. senators' concerns over the company's plans to adopt a Chinese science-fiction book trilogy, said on Friday it did not agree with the Chinese author's views on the Chinese government's treatment of Uighur Muslims.

Five Republican U.S. senators urged Netflix this week to reconsider plans to adapt the book into a TV series because they said the author has defended the Chinese government’s clampdown on ethnic Uighurs and other Muslims in the Xinjiang region.

The Three-Body Problem” and two sequels were written by Liu Cixin.

Netflix announced this month that it was turning the books into a live-action, English-language TV series led by D.B Weiss and David Benioff, the creators of HBO megahit “Game of Thrones”.

Liu serves as a consulting producer on the project.

Mr. Liu is the author of the book not the creator of this show. We do not agree with his comments, which are entirely unrelated to his book or this Netflix show,” said Netflix Global Public Policy Vice President Dean Garfield in a letter to the senators.

If anything, the government is helping their economy and trying to lift them out of poverty,Liu told the New Yorker magazine in 2019.

If you were to loosen up the country a bit, the consequences would be terrifying.”

The senators also asked Netflix to reconsider the implications of providing a platform to Liu in producing this project.

The Netflix streaming service is available in more than 190 countries but does not operate in China.

The United States and human rights groups have criticized China’s treatment of the Uighurs.

China’s foreign ministry has repeatedly denied the existence of internment camps in Xinjiang, calling the facilities vocational and educational institutions and accusing what it calls anti-China forces of smearing its Xinjiang policy.

Best Thriller Car Movies of all time to watch in this Lockdown

17th May 2020
"We know you are bored in this lockdown and have plenty of time in your hand you could use entertaining yourself."

We know you are bored in this lockdown and have plenty of time in your hand you could use entertaining yourself. Our team has picked three movies you could choose to watch today.

Best Car Thriller movies to watch in this Lockdown

Gone in 60 seconds

When a young car thief botches a "boost" (where a large order of cars are to be stolen), his older brother must come and help him out. If they don't steal 50 cars within 72 hours, then Kip is going to be killed by his shady bosses. Kip's older brother is Memphis Raines and is a legendary, and now retired, car thief. Memphis rounds up his old buddies and they attempt to steal all of the cars required. Complicating matters are the cops, other car thieves, and a dog (you'll have to see it).

Death Proof

A deranged stuntman stalks his victims from the safety of his killer car, but when he picks on the wrong group of badass babes, all bets are off in an adrenaline-pumping, high speed, white knuckle automotive duel of epic proportions, where anything can happen.

Death Race

Overcrowding in the US penal system has reached a breaking point. Prisons have been turned over to a monolithic Weyland Corporation, which sees jails full of thugs as an opportunity for televised sport. Adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for violence and a spectacular, enclosed arena come together to form the 'Death Race', the biggest, most brutal event.

Yes, of course, there are a lot more movies related to cars, bikes, and roaring of engines. We will be giving you a daily dose of it. Stay tuned with us.

Facebook and Netflix's value goes up by more than 40% during Covid-19

26th May 2020
"American billionaires continue to make money while the Covid-19 pandemic destroys tens of millions of jobs in the United States, according to data compiled by two think tanks."

A report in AFP states that American billionaires continue to make money while the Covid-19 pandemic destroys tens of millions of jobs in the United States, according to data compiled by two think tanks.

Between March 18 and May 19, the 600 ultra-wealthy Americans saw their fortunes increase by $ 434 billion, an increase of almost 15% in two months, according to these data published by Forbes magazine Thursday.

Containment measures, the closure of restaurants, and shops have boosted online shopping and the need to stay connected via social media.

This has pushed up the value of Amazon, Facebook, and high-tech companies in general.

Between March and May, the fortune of Jeff Bezos (Amazon) increased by more than 30%, and that of Mark Zuckerberg, boss of Facebook, by more than 46%, according to this report by Americans for Tax Fairness and the Institute for Policy Studies Program for Inequality, which compiled data from Forbes.

Since March 16, the beginning of the first containment measures in the United States, the value of the Facebook title has jumped by almost 60%, that of Amazon has increased by 45%, that of Netflix by 46%, that of Apple. 31%.

And that does not seem to stop since the titles Amazon and Facebook reached this week their highest historic level.

Conversely, billionaires in the travel, hotel or retail sector saw their fortunes melt during this same period, these sectors being directly affected by the drastic measures to stem the coronavirus.

Facebook launches its new TikTok clone, Instagram Reels

6th August 2020
"Facebook’s Instagram is officially launching its answer to the hit short video app TikTok — Instagram Reels."

The new Instagram feature will let users record and edit 15-second videos with audio, and will let users add visual effects. Users will be able to share Reels with followers in Instagram in a dedicated section called Reels in Explore, or in the Story feature where posts disappear after 24 hours.

The Reels option will be available in the Instagram app. The company has been testing Reels in Brazil since November and in France, Germany and India since earlier this summer.

Facebook has a long tradition of cloning competitive services. The Instagram “Story” feature, which lets people share photos and videos that expire in 24 hours, is similar to Snapchat. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg faced tough questioning about the company’s habit of copying rivals before a congressional hearing on July 29.

Facebook earlier launched a TikTok knockoff called Lasso in 2018, but closed that down in July. It also tried services similar to Snapchat called Slingshot and Poke before Instagram Stories caught on. But those were separate apps — it might have more success with a feature built into Instagram.

Reels is debuting in over 50 countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Japan, Australia and others, as well as officially launching in the test countries — Brazil, France, Germany and India.
