The Pixel5 automatically turns wireless charging pad when plugged USB C cable

4th November 2020
"Google is pretty smart about how it handles the automated feature."

The Pixel 5 is one of several flagship phones to offer a reverse wireless charging feature, but Google’s done something particularly clever with its implementation of the feature here: whenever you plug in a USB-C cable, your Pixel 5 will automatically turn on its reverse wireless charging feature, effectively turning it into a Qi charging pad, as spotted by 9to5Google.

Google is pretty smart about how it handles the automated feature: according to a support doc, Battery Share will only turn on for “a short period.” If the phone detects another Qi-compatible device has been placed on top to charge, it’ll work, as usual, otherwise, it’ll automatically turn Battery Share off.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t use reverse wireless charging to share power when your phone isn’t plugged in — you’ll still be able to activate Battery Share manually, even when you’re away from a charger. (To do that, either head to Settings -> Battery -> Battery Share or add the Battery Share toggle to your quick settings dropdown menu.)

The automated reverse wireless charging is a particularly smart addition, though, effectively turning the entire Pixel 5 into a full-fledged Qi charger that can be easily taken anywhere.

Android R running on Pixel 4 spotted | Features

20th January 2020
"A new benchmark test was spotted in Geekbench in which Pixel 4 was running on Android R."

Its just been a couple of months since the official release of Android 10, and cycle is starting over once again. A new benchmark test was spotted in Geekbench in which Google Pixel 4 was running on Android R OS. But wait for a second, didn’t Google drop the alphabet naming and adapted numerical naming for their OS?

Yes, Google did drop the alphabet naming but it is possible that Google is keeping the alphabet naming for the developer preview version of the OS and then switching to Numerical system when the final version is ready to drop. A similar thing happened with Android 10, everyone was guessing what Android Q will be called but Google changed the naming system entirely.

Google Pixel 4

From the listing, we see Android R running on Pixel 4 device with 6GB of Ram scoring 712 in the single-core test and 2,181 in the multi-core test. This could mean Android R developer preview is just around the corner.

But again as its just been couple of months since the release of Android 10 with majority of the device still running on Android 9 Pie, waiting for the Android 10 update, We believe it will be a while, maybe a couple of months that Google will start the Android R Developer Preview.

Asus’ new ZenBook S has a pixel-packed 3:2 aspect ratio display

1st September 2020
"Two Thunderbolt 3 ports"

Asus has taken the wraps off its new ZenBook S, a slim ultrabook that can be equipped with up to Intel’s Core i7-1065G7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of fast PCIe-based storage. Asus gave its flagship laptop a glow-up in the screen department, going from a 16:9 aspect ratio in last year’s model to a taller 3:2 aspect ratio for this year’s 3300 x 2200 touchscreen. What’s more, the bezels surrounding it are thin, and the display is Pantone-validated with 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

The ZenBook S has plenty of other traits that might make it a worthy contender for your next laptop. It features two Thunderbolt 3 ports that can be used for fast data transfer, connecting to an external monitor, or charging its battery. Speaking of which, Asus claims the 67Wh battery within this ultrabook can last up to 14 hours. And with its fast charging capability, it can recharge up to 60 percent in 49 minutes. Notably, Asus says you can keep the laptop powered either by its included 65W adapter or by a range of USB-C adapters and power banks, whether they support Power Delivery or not.

Thunderbolt 3 ports aside, this laptop also includes a full-size HDMI port, one USB Type-A port, and a microSD slot. There isn’t a headphone jack on this machine, but Asus includes a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle in the box that has an ESS digital-to-audio (DAC) converter built-in.

Asus says the ZenBook S (model UX393) will be available only at Costco and the Microsoft Store in the next few weeks, but no price was available.

Asus is also debuting a refresh of its Flip 13 convertible laptop. At the top end, it can be outfitted with Intel’s Core i7-1065G7 processor with Iris Plus graphics, along with 16GB of RAM and up to a 512GB PCIe-based SSD. While the Flip 13 doesn’t have the 3K Pantone-verified display of the ZenBook S, it has an FHD screen with similarly thin bezels. It also has two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

The Flip 13 starts at $899.99 and is currently available for preorder through Amazon and B&H Photo. The upgraded version with the high-end processor, storage, and memory is $1,199.99 at B&H Photo and Amazon.
