Huawei Mate 40 announcement event officially scheduled for October 22

10th October 2020
"The phones may be Huawei’s last ones with Kirin chips, due to US trade restrictions"

Richard Yu, Huawei Consumer Business CEO, and Huawei Executive Director, took to Weibo to announce that the global launch event for the Huawei Mate 40 family of devices will be held on October 22 at 14:00 CEDT.

Besides a poster, shared by Mr. Yu, we also have a very short announcement teaser clip that incorporates and eye/iris. Not much to really go on, nor necessarily a hint for what is to come. However, some have speculated based on these materials that the Mate 40 line will feature some major advancement in telephoto tech.

That is neither here nor there for the time being. We do, however, have more than a few leaks regarding the Mate 40 family to go by and potentially get a good picture of what is to come. As per MIIT certification, there will be a total of three models in the lineup – the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro+. We have already seen fairly-detailed renders of both the Mate 40 and the Mate 40 Pro. If you choose to believe their authenticity, of course. Some slightly more tangible leaks, include an alleged display glass for the Mate 40 Pro, showcasing a smaller dual-selfie punch-hole design, as well as very pronounced display curves. The punch hole can also be seen in a live video we have of the Mate 40 Pro. Even with the thick NDA case on, the curvature of the display is quite apparent.

In terms of hardware, the Mate 40 series is expected to debut the Kirin 9000 chipset. It might just be the first 5nm chip with a built-in 5G modem. However, it might also be one of the last, if not the very last flagship Kirin chip for the time being. Granted, that is a bit of speculation and so are various reports of lowered sales expectations by Huawei, accompanied by limited chipset production and potentially a delay for the availability of the Mate 40 line until next year. All of these are floating about in the rumor mill, though.

In the camera department, we are expecting a 108MP main shooter with a free-form 9P lens alongside a periscope module with 5x optical zoom. The remaining modules will likely be an ultrawide and ToF sensors. And one last bit of alleged info includes charging speeds of up to 66W.

Huawei brings Moovit app to AppGallery

10th October 2020
"Over 865 million people from 3200 cities in 106 countries have used the application that offers commute options such as bus, metro, train, bikes, e-scooters, car-sharing and ride-hailing."

Huawei keeps scoring small victories in the big quest of bringing AppGallery up to speed and making it a worthy alternative to the Google Play Store.

The company just announced that Moovit, one of the biggest urban mobility apps, can finally be downloaded from its in-house app store, providing an urban mobility solution to its users.
Moovit is an Israel-based service provider and also acts as a journey planner. The platform essentially gathers API frameworks from public transport companies worldwide and provides real-time stop-by-stop navigation, where available.

Over 865 million people from 3200 cities in 106 countries have used the application that offers commute options such as bus, metro, train, bikes, e-scooters, car-sharing, and ride-hailing.
The app is already available on Huawei AppGallery, but it can also be accessed via your web browser at moovitapp.com. The company says it has customized its web interface for Huawei’s own browser, but it can be accessed on virtually any device.

Moovit’s power comes from its huge library of public transport data and a massive army of 700,000 local volunteers, acting as editors, helping with changes at a local scale. With the help of Huawei AppGallery, Moovit will be available in at least 100 countries in 45 languages.

Previously Huawei also welcomed HERE WeGo, TomTomGo, Maps.me and Sygic on its virtual store shelves, giving those who wish to stick with its phones through these turbulent times a decent selection.
