Tips for Motorcycle Brake Maintenance- Reviews

28th December 2020
"Maintain the most important part of your bike!"

If we talk about a motorcycle's most critical and foundational safety feature, everyone would agree about the braking mechanism. So, by daily repairs, it is very important to still keep it fit. Both the front and rear brakes operate separately on bikes, which makes them less difficult than a vehicle for check-up and operation.

Many of today's luxury bikes have a front disc brake, although most commuters also have front and rear drum style brakes. Both types of systems run distinctly, so a particular form of maintenance is required for both. So, here we have the tips to keep the braking mechanism fit and perfect.

brakes

Drum Brakes:

Drum Brakes are a kind of internal expanding brakes, the most common type of braking mechanism. There are two major components of the device that require a lot of attention: Brake Wire and Brake Shoe Liners.

1) We need to cut the braking wire from the wheel first, open the brake drum cover and pull out the brake shoes.

2) The next move is to carefully inspect for wear on the brake shoe liner. To measure the thickness of the brake liner, which should be at least more than 1mm, you should use a scale.

3) If the width of the lining is less than 1 mm, the worn brake shoes need to be replaced with a brand new pair. We suggest you to adjust them for improved braking efficiency, even if the thickness is less than 1.6 mm.

4) Generally, brake drums appear to collect dust and other foreign contaminants, which can decrease the effectiveness of braking. So, you've got to scrub it as well.

5) Now, close the brake drum carefully, assemble the rotor, attach the brake wire and verify the braking efficiency.

6) Using pressure exerted on the brake lever, you can check the wear on the brake cable. You will have to replace the brake wire if the lever is too close and takes more than average power.

Disc Brakes:

Since a powerful bike needs improved braking efficiency, it comes fitted with disc brakes that are a little difficult to manage. There are several sections, aside from the disc orientation, that can be operated and serviced by self-contained braking fluid and brake pads. So, here are the repair measures for the disc brakes.

1) For the correct level, evaluate the brake fluid in the tank.

2) Open the bottle, if found to be low, and top up the brake fluid to the correct level. Using a new pack of brake fluid at all times, as it continues to collect moisture over a period of time.

3) When filling up the brake fluid, be careful and do not let it spill on the body of the vehicle as it will damage the paint.

Tips to Save Petrol in Bike | Minimize Fuel Consumption

20th October 2019
"Minimizing the petrol consumption is one of the major tricks to all the bike riders."

Bike and petrol are two parts of the same coin. The bike enthusiasts purchase a bike to travel up to their destination but petrol plays a huge part in their life. Minimizing the petrol consumption is one of the major tricks to all the bike riders.

Today we shall provide you with the tips to minimize petrol consumption for the bike.

Maintain Carburetor and filter of bike

The carburetor and filter should be regularly monitored and maintained. The dirt and dust around the city seem to collect around the carburetor passing the filter which obstructs the regular flow of petrol to the engine. This results in overconsumption of petrol in the bikes.

Kill your engine when the bike is stationary

There are times such as traffic jams, traffic light, and important phone calls at which your bike need to be stopped. In such situations, it is better to put your bike in neutral and kill the switch. Even the motionless bike engine consumes petrol which can now be controlled.

Clutch, Brakes, and Gear

We understand the necessity of clutch, brakes, and gear in a heavily crowded city like Kathmandu. All three parts must be used at all times. The clutch needs to be pressed to avoid the killing of the engine in a jam where you constantly need to brake and gear down to the lowest gear. Such activities consume more petrol than necessary. Hence, minimizing such usage when you can make a big difference in your consumption of petrol and a fat wallet.

Avoid parking your bike under direct sun

Petrol is a substance that evaporates fast even if you keep it in a vessel. When you park your bike under the direct sun, the heat evaporates the petrol at a fast rate. Therefore, try to avoid parking your bike when there is no shade above it.

Tire Pressure

The tire pressure should also be regularly monitored. The pressure must be approximate as per the bikes tire type and capacity which is mentioned in the brochures. If the pressure tends to be high or low than required, the bike cannot give its best performance and consumes more petrol to provide the optimum show.

Tips to keep the exterior of your car new and shiny.

12th September 2020
"Exterior car care should become a regular part of your car care routine."

Your car is probably your most important investment. It takes a year-round beating from general wear and the elements. This wear and tear will show if you don’t regularly care for and maintain it. Whether it’s cleaning, waxing or making repairs and maintenance, exterior car care should become a regular part of your car care routine. Take some time to review the following car care tips to keep your vehicle running at its optimum condition.

Step 1: Wash It

One of the best car care tips you can receive is to keep the exterior of your car clean. Washing your car often can remove harmful debris and reduce the chance of your car rusting. Choose a shady spot in which to work. It’s usually best to wash your car in the morning or evening when the sun isn't as intense, but if you have a spot in the shade to do the job, it doesn’t matter what time of day you start. Let the car exterior cool down if it has been in the sun for an extended period of time.

Fill a bucket with a couple of capfuls of concentrated car cleaning solution and water (check manufacturer's directions for the exact amount of cleaner to use). Wet down the entire surface of the car using a garden hose with a spray nozzle. Dip a sponge or washing mitt into the bucket and start on the roof of the car.

Using the sponge or washing mitt, wash the roof of the car and clean the windows. Stop there and rinse. You want to wash and rinse the car in sections to avoid the soap's drying on the surface before you spray it off. Choose either the hood or trunk of the car, clean it and rinse it. Continue working by washing either the front or back (depending on where you chose to continue) and then rinsing. Then proceed down one side of the car, one panel at a time, washing and rinsing. Repeat these steps on the opposite side. Don't forget to wash the rearview mirrors.

Wheels and tires should be cleaned last. Since they make contact with the road and collect the most oil, dirt and grime, it makes more sense to clean the rest of the car first so you don't transfer dirt from them to the rest of the car. Grit from the tires and lower panels of the car can also stick to your sponge and then scratch your car's paint elsewhere. Wet the wheels with your hose and then spray a wheel and tire cleaner onto them. Let the solution sit for a minute or two and then wash them with the washing mitt and soap. Rinse them off.

Step 2: Dry It

Dry the car using soft, clean towels that you keep specifically for drying your car, or better yet, use microfiber drying towels or chamois. Chamois, commonly known as shammies are leather cloths, designed to soak up water better than a regular towel and help prevent water spots.

Step 3: Apply Protectants

After the vehicle has dried, pour (or spray) a dab of vinyl and rubber protectant onto a clean rag and wipe it on all vinyl, plastic, or rubber parts on the vehicle exterior. These will most likely include door and window moldings, trim, rearview mirrors, and tires.

Car-protectant

Wipe with a circular motion for complete and even coverage. Wait for the protectant to be absorbed. Once it is absorbed, the surface will look and feel dry. Then with a new, clean rag, wipe down the parts.

Step 4: Wax It

Waxing your car protects the paint and finish. In essence, it seals the exterior and protects it from the elements, UV rays, salt, splattered insects and bird droppings, while it leaves the car looking shiny and new. Wax usually comes as a paste, liquid or cream. There is endless debate about which brand or type of wax to use, but most car enthusiasts prefer a carnauba-based wax in any form. One application of this wax usually lasts about six to eight weeks.

waxco-wash-wax-car-shampoo

Before applying, either dip an applicator pad into the wax container (for pastes and creams) or pour a small amount onto the pad (liquid). Many waxes are sold with applicator pads, but they can also be purchased separately.

Apply wax to one section or panel of the vehicle at a time. Start by framing the section which is applying the wax along the edges in a straight line. This gives you better control and helps prevent getting wax in and on unwanted areas, like plastic or rubber trim. Then fill in the rest of the area by wiping the wax on in a circular motion. As it dries, the wax will form a haze. This usually just takes a few minutes. Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth to wipe away the haze. Try to use one small section of the cloth when wiping each area, so you still have a clean cloth to wipe the next section. Repeat this process over the entirety of the car's finish.

Tips for long-lasting tyres

20th September 2020
"Tyres are sometimes the major expense of your car after fuel so ensure you get the full benefit of your investment."

Tyres are sometimes the major expense of your car after fuel so ensure you get the full benefit of your investment. It takes good maintenance and treatment to get the best out of your tyres. Once in 4-5 years, you will need a replacement. However, your tyre could easily be ripped down to shreds by the end of that time, if due care was not taken to it.

The following easy tips are not just a way to enhance your tyres' durability but also boost overall fuel economy, driving behavior and, perhaps significantly, your general safe driving.

Monthly check of tyre inflation

Too much-inflated tyres will unexpectedly bounce you around, poorly-inflated tyres cause you to lose handling characteristics and make your fuel expenses even more. What's even worse is that tyres that are significantly poorly-inflated can overheat and burst.

Look for the best pressure for your tyres, front and back. Don’t forget to check your tyres every month. You can even set a reminder if you have trouble remembering it.

Check your wheels for balance

When you get your tires rotated, you can also get your wheels balanced. And if you use a two-wheeler then need not do this, you can just do your tyre rotation. There's a heavy spot inside every tire and wheel. None of them is perfect, even though they are completely new. The gap is slight, estimated in 1 to 1⁄2 ounces. But vibration and uneven tire wear can be caused by that slight difference. Using a special device and small weights your technician can stabilize any wheel. As when the tire wears, the weight will need to be shifted or changed. It is a quick, easy cycle that costs far less than a new tire! Please ensure throughout rotation you have the balance of your tires tested and balanced.

To preserve the life of your tyres, you need to minimize the repetitive and sudden braking. Sudden acceleration also leads to reducing tire’s wear similarly. Standard tyres, not ideal for power slides or burnouts. Even if you are enticed by the scent of burnt rubber, stop any of those gimmicks on your tyres. They put undue pressure on the tyres, reducing life faster than expected.

Always carry out pre-travel examinations

Before any ride, this should be something you do. The tires should always be provided with a pre-trip examination of key structures for road preparation. Test the tyre pressure, check at the condition of the tyres, and be prepared to tackle troubles before hitting the roadway to mitigate the damage.

Don't forget to carry a spare tyre!

Heavy loads

Motorcycles are light and heavy, and people either slim or obese. We may raise the tension of the tyres to accommodate more weight (within the prescribed edges) understanding this factor. If we add a traveler and a load to it, we should apply further pressure to the prescribed maximum limit to sustain this big load.

Anyway, aim to make the bike as light as possible. The heavier the load is, the more the damage is, so we can obey guidelines like emptying the saddle bars and the top case or removing them if we don't need it. We may also decrease the weight of the unwanted stuff taken from other boxes and the storage of the under the seat.
