Watch Sony test drive its Vision-S prototype on public roads
"Sony said at the time that the car already had autonomous Level 2 driving capabilities."
Last year, Sony's Vision-S electric vehicle went from a simple prototype to something the firm said it wanted to put closer to reality . Sony announced in July that it was preparing to begin testing the vehicle on public roads by the end of 2020.
While at its CES 2021 keynote it did not provide a significant update on the EV, Sony says it began testing the EV in Europe in December and shared a footage of the car driving on serene Austrian roads, the recently announced Airpeak drone of the company also appears in the video.
When Sony first unveiled the S-Vision at CES 2020, it claimed that it was created to demonstrate its technology to auto industry companies. Two 200kW engines were present in the prototype we saw at the trade show and had the potential to accelerate to 62 MPH in 4.8 seconds.
Sony said at the time that the car already had autonomous Level 2 driving capabilities, but that it was aiming to make it more autonomous in the future.
