OtterBox has launched the first third-party iPhone 12 cases that officially support Apple’s new MagSafe accessory system, with the company debuting its Figura, Aneu, and Symmetry Series Plus cases for the new phones today.

According to OtterBox, the company is the “exclusive third-party case provider for the introduction of the advanced MagSafe system” — which makes it sound like these will be the only official MagSafe cases outside of Apple’s own that you’ll be able to get, at least for now.

The Figura Series cases are the simplest, at $49.95, offering a basic plastic case with colorful, watercolor-style designs. The Aneu Series cases (also $49.95) add grippy rubber edges and textured material for the rest of the case. Both of those models are available for the iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max from Apple and OtterBox’s website.

The Symmetry Series Plus cases — which are only being sold on OtterBox’s website and cost $59.95 — add a “silver-based additive that continually blocks microbial growth” and OtterBox’s Drop Plus protection, which the company claims is rated for “three times as many drops as a military standard.”

OtterBox’s pricing is more or less identical to Apple’s own cases, which cost $49, so you’re not really saving any money by turning to a third-party option. But at least there’s a little more variety beyond Apple’s silicone and clear plastic case choices.

All three OtterBox case models are compatible with Apple’s MagSafe standard, which means they should easily snap onto your phone and support Apple’s MagSafe wireless chargers even when the case is attached.

Apple Inc is planning to fix a flaw that a security firm said may have left more than half a billion iPhones vulnerable to hackers.

Hackers may have found a way to exploit iPhones and iPads using a malicious message sent through Apple’s email app. The flaw was discovered by San Francisco-based cybersecurity firm ZecOps and first reported by The Wall Street Journal. Apple is aware of the iOS vulnerability, and the company is preparing to push out a security update soon.

In a report published, ZecOps said it found evidence that hackers have been using a malicious program since at least January 2018, gaining access to the iOS mobile operating system. ZecOps researchers say the attack is a zero-click exploit, meaning it doesn’t require users to click on the email in order to get the device infected.

The attackers send black emails that would corrupt the iPhone when the users try to open the message. This way hackers gain entry to the device, giving them access to confidential emails, photos, and other details. It affects the iPhone with iOS 13, though the cyber-security firm says the vulnerability has existed since at least iOS 6, which was released way back in 2012.

“ZecOps detected multiple triggers in the wild to this vulnerability on enterprise users, VIPs, and MSSPs, over a prolonged period of time,” the cybersecurity firm said. “The attack’s scope consists of sending a specially crafted email to a victim’s mailbox enabling it to trigger the vulnerability in the context of iOS MobileMail application on iOS 12 or mailed on iOS 13.”

An Apple spokesperson told Reuters that the company would soon roll out a software update for the iPhones and iPads.Apple devices are known to be more secure than Android devices. But in the last few months, there has been an increase in software flaws.

5G will finally get its U.S. closeup with the expected debut of Apple Inc’s next iPhone on Tuesday. But the blazing speeds promised will not materialize for most people.
The device dubbed the iPhone 12 by analysts, can tap into 5G or fifth-generation wireless technology, which theoretically operates as much as 10 to 20 times faster than current 4G wireless networks.

Using the next iPhone or any 5G enabled device on today’s network, however, will be “like having a Ferrari ... but using it in your local village and you can’t drive to up to 200 miles per hour, simply because the roads cannot maintain those speeds,” explained Boris Metodiev, associate director of research firm Strategy Analytics.

Apple, which is expected to unveil the new phone at a virtual event on Tuesday, will need to walk a tightrope between enticing consumers to upgrade their phones while not over-promising what 5G can do today.

Current 5G U.S. networks mostly use a low-band wireless spectrum, or airspace, that is slower than the high-band spectrum but more reliable over long distances. It will likely take years before the massive speed boost phone carriers promise will make augmented reality and real-time cloud gaming seamless.

Several U.S. telecom operators have deployed networks based on lower spectrum bands, with slightly higher speeds than 4G. A noticeably faster variant of “mid-band” 5G is also being rolled out, but it is unlikely to reach three-quarters of Americans until 2025, estimated longtime Apple analyst Gene Munster of venture capitalist firm Loup Ventures.

The fastest speeds touted by carriers are a type of 5G called millimeter Wave, or mmWave, that work over shorter distances. Verizon Communications Inc has the largest current mmWave network, available only in limited areas.

Although Verizon 5G users could connect almost 10 times faster than on Sprint and T-Mobile, actual average speeds were far lower, according to research firm OpenSignal’s mobile signal experience report in June.

On average, AT&T Inc and Verizon customers with 5G phones saw only a small bump up from 4G speeds, according to the same study.

In South Korea and in China, faster 5G networks are more pervasive. But Apple will be competing against local brands including Samsung in South Korea, which is already on its second line of 5G phones, and China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd [HWT.UL], whose sales have surged after the telecom giant was banned in the United States.

The other big letdown is that applications using higher speeds to deliver something new have yet to be created. It is a chicken and egg problem at this part of the tech cycle, executives said, noting that interest in 4G was fueled by Facebook Inc’s mobile apps and Alphabet Inc’s YouTube.

As for the camera, Apple claims the iPhone 12 Pro series to be the phone with cameras for professionals that also support high-quality video recording suitable even to shoot the movie scenes. As for the TruDepth front camera, it has the same 12MP single shooter as the iPhone 12 and 12 mini. 

Moving on to the hardware of the iPhone 12 Pro, it has a 6GB RAM and storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and an added storage option of 512GB. The same Apple A14 Bionic chipset is available in the iPhone 12 Pro. While the charging method and MagSafe charging remain the same, the battery capacity is relatively higher.

iPhone 12 Pro Max is the biggest iPhone to date. Its display is 0.2 inches bigger than the 6.5 inches iPhone 11 Pro max. Despite being a successor to the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the phone shares more common features with the other smartphones in the iPhone 12 series from the design and processor to the 5G connectivity.

iPhone 12 Pro Max shares common features with the iPhone 12 Pro including the build, processor, camera, camera setup, software, hardware, and almost everything else.

iPhone 12 Pro Max has a similar build to other models in the iPhone 12 series. However, the major difference is that it has a huge Super Retina XDR OLED display of 6.7 inches along with a resolution of 1284 x 2778 pixels. As it is the largest phone in the series, its weight is also relatively higher than others in the series. The battery size is also bigger.

At present, the price of the iPhone 12 series is quite ambiguous and we are not sure exactly when will it enter the Nepalese market; but, one thing is certain that it will surely enter. 

The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro will be in Pre-order starting from October 16, 2020. On October 23rd, 2020 these two phones will be available to buy. In the case of iPhone 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max, they will be in Pre-order starting November 6, 2020, and go on shipping starting from November 13, 2020.
