Tips on Makeup and Skin care by Itchya Karki

1st January 2021
"Let's get to know a few tips and tricks on applying makeup on a regular basis."

Itchya Karki is managing director at her own salon i.e. The Beauty Bar Nepal. Besides owning and managing her salon, she is also a model, actress, and TV show host. She's been providing various beauty services in her salon from makeup and glam to manicures and pedicures. She has also been providing makeup and hairstyling classes to beauty enthusiasts. She is an inspiration to many youngsters.

Recently, we had an interview with Itchya Karki where we asked her about makeup and skincare routine and few tips for makeup enthusiasts. Here are a few tips by Itchya Karki on Skin Care and makeup.

Can you give some tips on taking care of the skin for women who have to apply makeup on regular basis?

Skin is one of the vital and largest organs of the body. And, for people who want to or have to apply makeup on regular basis, it is very important to take care of your skin. Because when you are applying makeup it may clog your pores.

The most important and no. 1 rule when you are thinking about taking care of the skin for people who apply makeup regularly is to take it off. Make sure the makeup is removed very very well.

More than applying it's about the removal of makeup. So, make sure your makeup is removed very well. Or else you might get clogged pores, blackheads, or acne breakouts.

Another thing is investing in good double cleansing products. For eg- an oil cleanser and foam cleanser. First, you do the oil-based cleansing then you do foam cleansing that way the makeup is removed.

Also, while you wear makeup regularly. Make sure that the pre-makeup is on the point that means you have to wear nice sunscreen, and a nice moisturizer, so that the skin is not affected by makeup.

Can you share your daily basic makeup and skincare routine with us?

I do not wear makeup daily. I wear makeup when I have to go to events, or when I'm shooting, or when I have to do youtube.

So, as for my daily skincare routine, after I wake up I double cleanse, then I apply my serum, either a vitamin e or a hyaluronic acid-based serum depending upon the weather. Basically, when it's summer I use vitamin E, and when it's winter, my skin is a bit dehydrated so I use a hyaluronic acid-based serum. And after that, I will moisturize and let it sit for 2 to 3 mins until it's soaked into my skin and then apply a thick layer of sunscreen. So throughout the day, since I'm not wearing makeup, I'll just reapply the sunscreen.

Does the skincare routine differ during the summer and winter seasons? If yes, then why is it so?

Definitely, I think winter and summer skincare is a bit different. Because during winter, there is less moisture in the air due to which you want to use hydrating products to your skin. Whereas in the summer it's very hot and you sweat a lot so you wanna use products that kind of help towards removing blackheads and acne, I feel.

In winter, you need to moisturize and use hydrating products more as compared to summer. It also depends upon your skin type and how it reacts to the environment.

Can you share a few tips and tricks on loving your skin more during this winter?

So, in general speaking, most people during the winter have dry skin and dehydrated skin due to lack of moisture in the air. So one of the tricks would be- even though we, Nepalese love to sit in the sun and soak in, make sure to moisturize a lot and make sure you reapply the sunscreen. These are the golden rules when it comes to skincare.

Reecha Sharma- My skin care routine is pretty normal and simple

21st November 2020
"My skincare routine is very simple and normal."

Reecha Sharma is a semi-finalist of the Miss Nepal 2007 pageant who started her journey as a model, later starred in many Nepali movies, hosted in TV shows, and currently, she is a producer as well. She shines wherever she goes with her confidence complemented by her glowing flawless skin. We recently had a short interview with her where she shared her secret and steps for attaining glowing skin like hers.

In the interview, we asked her if she could share her skincare routine and steps she usually follows to keep her skin beautiful and glowing. She gladly shared her skincare routine with us mentioning that her skin is dry and her skincare routine is pretty normal and simple. During that short interview, I realized that she is so humble and down-to-earth as a person.

"My skincare routine is very simple and normal; I would say.” She began,” Every day before going to bed, I put on some coconut oil. I've been using cold-pressed virgin coconut oil for the past one year and it has really changed my skin. Also, I clean my face with micellar water every evening. Even when I don't put on any makeup, I clean my face with water and then apply micellar water. Normally, I don't use much face wash but only at times when my face doesn't feel cleansed enough, I wash my face with a face wash. Before going out, I always apply sunscreen and moisturizer. It is a must for me. Also, I keep dabbing sunscreen in between as it helps and protects my skin from the sun."

"During the avocado season, I apply avocado and yogurt as a mask every week to keep my face hydrated and moisturized." She says, “Then, I scrub my face with a scrub made up of ayurvedic herbs, and then, I apply Lavanya's ayurvedic moisturizer."

As she mentioned coconut oil has changed her skin, I couldn’t help myself and got really curious about how it changed her skin as I’d never heard anyone applying coconut oil in their face. But after listening to her, I felt that coconut oil is a cure for dry skin to prevent tightness and to keep one’s skin hydrated.

She responded - "I had very dry skin before. I used to do body massage with coconut oil; so, I wanted to try it on my face. And I started doing that. I used to have really dry and flaky skin. I also used to get a lot of pimples. But, I liked cleaning my face with it. And it really started getting really shiner and soft. Since then, I couldn't stop using it."

Q&A with Sadikshya Subedi, a frelancer MUA

11th December 2020
"Sadikshya Subedi is an Australian based MUA who freelances for herself."

Sadikshya Subedi is a makeup enthusiast who's been freelancing as a makeup artist in Sydney, Australia. She's a self-taugh MUA who also provides classes on makeup. We recently had an interview with her about her journey as a makeup artist. Let's get to know more about such an amazing talent.

Can you give a brief introduction about yourself?

My name is Sadikshya Subedi. I am a full time student currently at Sydney, Australia. I am makeup enthusiast who does makeup on my free time.

What made you decide that you wanted to start a career in glamour? Why and how were you interested in make up?

So, I’ve always been interested in makeup, since I was 16. As a normal school girl, I would just look up to people wearing makeup and be fascinated by it so, I always liked makeup. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and eventually started practicing on my face.

Are you self-taught or did you take some makeup classes?

I am a self-taught makeup artist; I’ve watched a lot of YouTube videos, clips to get the makeup skills. I once signed up for a makeup class but I didn’t go there as I was uncertified.

Can you share your journey in brief?

I had been doing makeup on my face and then I had eczema last year then I stopped doing makeup on my face. Since I was really passionate about makeup, I didn’t want to stop doing makeup though. Then I started taking in clients and that’s how I’m freelancing right now.

Have you ever faced criticisms? If yes, how do you deal with it?

I had the support of my friends and family sharing my work. At the beginning I didn’t have any criticisms and I still don’t have any, but I expect them in future if I ever make it to explore pages.

If I get sad by anything on internet then, I just put my phone away and remember that’s not real life and people show what they want to show, that’s how I deal with it.

Being in Nepal in the beginning and continuing it (makeup) in Australia, did you find any differences due to change in the country?

Like I mentioned before I am a full time student. I had a rough time. It took me about half a year to be a bit stable on my makeup journey. I work and study and still make enough time to pursue my passion.

Any suggestions for the beginners who are interested in being a makeup artist?

For beginners who are interested in makeup understand the face of a person and how a product works. You cannot just copy paste what you saw on YouTube because the canvas is different- the face is different. My suggestion would be practice, check what goes wrong, and understand the facial features as all people are unique and different style suits different person.

Lastly, can you share your basic skin care routine with us?

I don’t have a long skin care routine. I have a dry skin and it is eczema prone and sensitive; so, I really cannot apply a lot of skin care products. I am using pharmaceutical product as prescribed by the doctor.
