5th November 2020
"Winter is coming!"

Heaters to keep you warm this winter As winter nears, we feel the cool breeze of the Himalayas getting extra icy and making us all cold and shivery. Winters are getting quite cold nowadays due to climatic changes. And as we prep ourselves by stuffing our wardrobe with woolen clothes and taking out the huge warm blankets, it is essential to keep our home and our surrounding warm as well. Heaters are the best option for countries like Nepal where the central heating system is not the best option to pass the few months of winter. Let's get to know the heaters available in Nepal that will help you get along with the cold icy winters.

Radiant Electric Heaters

Radiant Electric Heaters are commonly used in several households in Nepal. They come in different shapes and sizes. These convert the electric energy into heat energy. As you turn on the heater, the infrared bars or electrodes as a heating element that turns red as electricity passes through the heater. They do not heat the air directly rather the infrared radiation travels through the air until it hits a heat-absorbing object. They do not warm up the entire room but only a spot or a part of the room. These are best for small, and cozy rooms.

Electric Convection Heaters

Electric convection heaters work slowly and less efficiently; however, the heat and warmth emitted last for a longer period of time in larger areas. They operate by air currents that flow throughout the heater body, across its heating element. It heats the air and fills warmth in the room. Moreover, the heated air heats the cold air present in the room as well. They are best if you can place or mount onto the walls. Make sure to choose the appropriate place to mount the unit as moving it can be really difficult or you may also buy a small portable convection heater as well.

Electric Fan Heaters

As you may have guessed from its name, electric fan heaters are a fan that throws warm air into the surrounding. These are similar to convection heaters but have one core difference i.e. they combine an electric element with a fan to blow warm air into the room. If you can't bear the krr.. noise of electronics, then this may not be the best option for you. However, they are best for a cozy and small space and can be easily moved to other places.

Oil heaters

Oil heaters also are known as oil-filled column heaters use electricity to heat the oil inside a sealed column. As the columns are heated, they transfer the heat into the rest of the room. Column heaters take a little longer to heat up but once the oil columns are heated, they work pretty efficiently. It is ideal for long-term heating.

Gas Heaters

Gas heaters are generally a little cheaper to run than electric heaters mentioned above. Gas heaters are also a lot more responsive and capable of heating large areas in just a few moments. The downside is that gas heaters are generally a little more expensive to purchase. They may also produce harmful waste gases such as carbon monoxide. It is best not to run the gas heaters in a closed room but in a well-ventilated room.

Why should you get a humidifier this winter?

27th November 2020
"Bring moist to your room this winter with a humidifier."

Winter brings dry skin and a dry atmosphere along with its icy coldness. The dryness that prevails during the winter can cause breakouts for your skin and may cause several other problems as well. To eliminate your dry environment, getting your house a humidifier can be a great relief. During winter, the central heating systems and other heating systems can dry out the indoor air, which causes a dry atmosphere leading to irritation in different parts of the body.

Humidifier adds moisture to your room and prevents dryness. It is best for treating dryness of skin, lips, nose, and throat. Moreover, they can also help in preventing flu and the common cold. However, as the sugar turns bitter if taken unhealthily, humidifiers can cause respiratory problems if not used properly.

Prevents the spread of air-borne diseases

Researches have proven that increasing indoor humidity by about 40% can kill up to 80% of the air-borne bacterias. As a result, many hospitals and clinics have started using a humidifier to increase indoor humidity for preventing air-borne diseases among the patients, hospital staff, and visitors.

Prevents dry skin

About 60-70 percent of the human body is made up of water, dryness in the atmosphere during winter may suck out the moisture from the body leaving dry skin, chapped lips, and possibly even bloodshot eyes. One may also face skin irritation during winter. Thereupon, running a humidifier helps to preserve moisture in the atmosphere. The added moisture prevents your skin from any sort of irritation and dryness.

Makes your home warmer

It has also been proven that a humidifier warms the air in your house making it cozier and warmer. Moreover, if you use a humidifier instead of a heating system, you can save up more energy-saving your electricity bills.

Helps to relieve allergic symptoms

Humidifiers, in the past, used to raise the humidity to a higher level inviting more dust mites. This led to allergic reactions in many people sensitive to allergens. However, the newer models have options to lower the humidity level. As a result, it has helped in eliminating the unwelcomed guests in your room- ultimately, you are relieved with allergic symptoms.

Prevents static

The static electricity is higher during the winters which cause frizzy hair and may also lead to damaging your electronics. This happens due to the high level of dryness in the atmosphere. Humidifier brings moisture in your room reducing the static which prevents such problems.

Prevents damage to wood

The dry environment also dries out the moisture from the furniture leading to some cracks and breakages. The joints of the furnitures are also affected. You may have noticed difficulty in opening or closing the wooden doors during the winters, it's caused by the dry air. If you use your humidifier properly, your furniture will glow even during the winters.

Reduces snoring

Your throat also suffers because of the dry air. And if you are someone who breathes from the mouth, you might face difficulties during the night- as a result, you start snoring. The moist air from the humidifier helps to soothe the tissues at the back of your throat. It will help you in breathing, sleeping comfortably, and reduce snoring.
