Earlier this year, Canon EOS-1D X Mark III was launched in India. The Japanese imaging brand introduced Canon EOS-1D X Mark III for professional photo takers and filmmakers. The company has now released a new firmware for the camera as a bug fix update.

Courtesy of Canon Rumors, we know that the Firmware Version 1.2.1 fixes a phenomenon in which the smart controller may respond slowly or not at all on some cameras. To describe which are those 'some' cameras, the report states, "The phenomenon described above may occur in cameras whose first two digits of the serial number are 01, 02, 03, or 04."

For the non-Canon camera users, Canon EOS-1D X Mark III has two smart controllers - one for horizontal shooting, and the other for vertical recording. The smart controllers are built into AF-ON buttons, which look like traditional joysticks as included in Nikon Z6, but as Canon claims they behave more like "a miniature touchpad that can be used to scroll AF points around the screen."

Other than the smart controller phenomenon, Canon's latest firmware brings enhancements when using Browser Remote and also fixes another phenomenon that may occur during viewfinder shooting.

The improvements when using Browser Remote include the image list displayed will be refreshed automatically on the browser. Also, on the shooting screen of the browser, you can set the movie resolution and a high frame rate, change the movie shooting mode and a Live View will be displayed as soon as you select the movie shooting button.

Canon firmware v1.2.1 enhances Auto Focus (AF) as well, for improved face and eye recognition at greater distances.

Samsung has launched a new budget-oriented Galaxy M-series phone called the Samsung Galaxy M21. The Galaxy M21 is the successor to Samsung Galaxy M20 and will be available in two configurations, 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB.

The 4GB/64GB Samsung Galaxy M21 price in India is INR 12,999. The Samsung M21 price in India for the high-end 6GB/128GB model hasn’t been revealed yet.

Speaking of samsung M21 specs, the Galaxy M21 has a 6.4-inch Full-HD+ or 1080p+ Super AMOLED display with Samsung’s Infinity-U waterdrop-style notch and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The phone is powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 9611 processor paired with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage which is further expandable by up to 512GB via micro-SD card. The dual-SIM phone runs Android 10-based One UI 2.0 software and is backed by a sizeable 6,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging via USB Type-C.

On to the cameras, the Samsung Galaxy M21 comes with three cameras on the back. There’s a 48MP main, 8MP ultrawide-angle with 123-degree field-of-view, and another 5MP depth camera for bokeh shots. On the front, the Galaxy M21 has a 20MP camera.

The Galaxy M21 launch comes close on the heels of the Galaxy M31 launch. The Galaxy M31 may be considered as a more powerful version of the Galaxy M21 with its main USP being its 64MP main camera.

Canon has announced the PowerShot Zoom, an unusual camera that’s more like a digital monocular than a point-and-shoot. The company has been showing off the idea for a while and recently crowdfunded it in Japan; now it’s coming to the US.

The PowerShot Zoom is a tiny device with an electronic viewfinder, a 1/3-inch 12-megapixel sensor, and two switchable equivalent focal lengths of 100mm and 400mm with a digital zoom up to 800mm. The lens is f/5.6-6.3, so this probably isn’t well-suited to low-light use. Image quality in general is not really the focus.

Canon says the product has been designed for people who enjoy outdoor activities like birdwatching and hiking, however, and it could be a useful accessory for spectators at sports events like the Olympic Games — if they actually go ahead. The camera charges over USB-C and saves images and video to a microSD card, plus you can transfer images to a smartphone over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The PowerShot Zoom will go on sale in the US late next month for $299.99.

Sony has released a new version of its Imaging Edge Webcam software for Macs, which allows you to directly plug in a recent Sony camera to use as a high-quality webcam for Zoom or Skype calls on your computer.

The company had already released a version of the software for Windows back in August, but the new release means that Mac users can also get in on the action, with crisp, high-quality video calls.

The new software works with 36 of Sony’s cameras, including recent cameras from its E-mount and A-mount series of cameras, like the A9 II, A9, A7S III, A7R IV, A7R III, A7R II, A7S II, A7S, A7 III, A7 II, A6600, A6500, A6400, A6100, as well as its fixed-lens devices like RX100 VII, RX100 VI, RX0 II, RX0, and the vlog-focused ZV-1.

Older devices, like the original A7 or the A6000, aren’t supported, although you can still manually connect them for use as a webcam using an HDMI capture card (this cheap model that costs between $11 and $25 does the trick.)

Sony is one of the last camera companies to offer a software solution for using its high-end cameras as a webcam: Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, Fujifilm, and GoPro have all also already offered software for their own devices.
