Common skin sins to avoid

While each person's skin is unique and should be treated accordingly, there are some common ‘skin mistakes' that many people make.

Here's a compiled list of the most common skin sins, as well as tips on how to avoid them:

Using soap

While soap can be used to clean your hands, it should not be used to clean your face.

Conventional soaps not only strip your skin of its natural oils but can also cause dryness and irritation by interrupting the pH of your skin.

It dehydrates your skin, leaving it drained and pH unbalanced. Bar soap has its time and place, such as on your body, but not on your delicate face.

The skin on the face and the skin on the body is completely different and must be treated differently.

Not paying attention to your neck

It's just as important to have a good skincare routine for your neck and chest as it is for your face.

While you may be using all of the necessary products on your face, ignoring your neck could result in you looking completely different from your chin down.

Because the skin around the neck is so thin, it has a harder time retaining moisture and, as a result, ages much more quickly than the rest of the body.

If you want your skin to look younger, it's critical to keep this area hydrated. There's no need for a separate neck product; just make sure this area is covered.

Wearing Makeup to Bed

This is a very obvious skin sin that many people commit regularly. It's just bad form, and you're well aware of it.

Sleeping with makeup on clogs your pores, this causes breakouts.

Use face wipes to remove your makeup before going to bed, even if you've been out late.

Too much rubbing your skin

When cleaning or moisturizing your skin, try to avoid rubbing it excessively.

Excessive rubbing can cause redness and cause the capillaries to become permanently dilated, resulting in blotchy skin. Instead, when cleansing or moisturizing, use gentle pressure, in short, quick movements.

Using baby wipes

Although it may appear that you're removing your makeup, baby wipes are only designed to remove organic material from the skin's surface, not the makeup.

Using baby wipes can cause breakouts and clogged pores.

Also, don't use makeup wipes because they can contain harsh chemicals and completely dehydrate your skin.

Basic skincare routine for dry skin in winter

24th November 2021
"People with dry skin always struggle to maintain skin hydration levels properly throughout the day."

People with dry skin always struggle to maintain skin hydration levels properly throughout the day. To prevent your skin from feeling dry, flaky, and uncomfortable by the end of the day, you need a skincare routine that helps it hold onto moisture.

Here’s a skincare routine for dry skin in winter that can leave your skin happy, hydrated, and glowing.

Cleanse:

Cleansing the skin is the first step before applying any moisturizing creams or oils. Remove all makeup, dirt, and environmental pollutants from the day and start fresh.

Choose a clean face wash product that has hydrating ingredients to soothe the skin. Cleansing your face too often strips away all the moisture from your skin.

Wash your face just twice a day with a cleanser.

Toner:

Toner complements your cleanser as a secondary product to get rid of any leftover makeup or dirt you may have missed.

It helps to remove excess oil, bring balance to the skin tone, and allow other skincare products to absorb fully into the skin.

Hydrate:

Serums contain a high concentration of active ingredients that replenish your skin and keep it healthy.

If you have dry skin, you may try serums with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. They will refresh your skin and keep it soft.

Moisturize:

Moisturizer adds moisture back to the skin, hydrating it and leaving you with a fresher appearance.

This is the most crucial step in caring for dry skin. Always apply moisturizer after washing your face and on damp skin.

This helps your skin stay hydrated throughout the day. Pick a hydrating moisturizer that does not contain any irritants.

Sunscreen:

Sunscreen has become a must-have part of any skincare routine and not just a go-to when headed to the beach or pool.

Damage from UV rays can quickly dry out the skin and leave it tight and flaky. Once you have moisturized your skin, it is time to layer it with sun protection.

Try to avoid sun exposure and seek shade as much as possible. Also, try to cover up properly and wear sunglasses.

Overnight Care:

Taking off your makeup is essential before you start your nighttime routine. You may use an oil-based cleanser or cleansing oil to remove your makeup.

Use a gentle water-based cleanser to wash your face and remove all traces of dirt. Give your skin an extra boost of hydration by using a night cream.

The overnight cream easily absorbs into the skin to hydrate and nourish the skin while you’re sleeping.

Five Common skincare mistakes to avoid

24th November 2021
"Skincare should be according to skin type and the seasons"

Skincare is a tricky business. Common skincare mistakes can aggravate such problems as suntan, sunburn, dark patches, blackheads, pimples, acne, rash, dryness, or skin sensitivity. Skincare should be according to skin type and the seasons.

Here are a few mistakes you might have been making when it comes to skincare which is preventing you from getting that smooth and glossy skin you want.

Not wearing sunscreen daily:

The sun is your skin’s biggest enemy; it speeds up the aging process by contributing to fine lines and wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dark spots, and even skin cancer.

That’s why applying sunscreen is an essential step in your skincare routine – regardless of your age – to prevent sun damage and keep your skin healthy and radiant for as long as possible.

Pimple popping:

Squeezing pimples and blackheads can allow dirt and bacteria to get into the skin and make matters even worse.

Besides increasing the odds of infection, popping your pimples can lead to permanent scarring. Scarring becomes an issue to deal with.

And scarring isn't something that goes away overnight.

Over exfoliating:

While exfoliation is a great way to remove the build-up of dead skin cells for smoother, brighter skin, over-exfoliation can be super damaging to the skin’s natural moisture barrier.

Avoid exfoliating scrubs with harsh particles that can tear and damage the skin.

Using too many products:

It’s important to understand how much of each skincare product you should use to get the most benefit without wasting it or irritating your skin unnecessarily.

Your skin could be oily and quite sticky because your skincare is just sitting on the surface, but overloading your skin can also result in dryness, irritation, and redness.

Just a handful of products and ingredients will do for most people with 'normal' to combination skin.

Touching your face too often:

Most people touch their face countless times per day; it’s a natural habit and also a common skincare mistake to avoid.

The hands carry germs and bacteria, conveying them to facial skin and leading to eruptive skin problems.

If there is acne, it can get aggravated if you keep touching your face.
