In India, Mahindra launches the ‘Oxygen on Wheels' initiative
"Mahindra Group announced this initiative to help reach oxygen cylinders to different parts of the country to help people at a time when the oxygen crisis has been responsible for the death of many Covid-19 patients"
During the COVID-19 pandemic's second wave, the Mahindra Group has launched an initiative under the name 'Oxygen on Wheels' to bridge the gap that exists between oxygen production and transportation in India, particularly in Maharashtra.
Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, announced this initiative to help reach oxygen cylinders to different parts of the country to help people at a time when the oxygen crisis has been responsible for the death of many Covid-19 patients.
The company has approximately 70 Bolero pickup trucks lined up to deliver oxygen cylinders. Anand Mahindra announced the initiative on social media. “Today, oxygen is the key to reducing mortality,” Mahindra tweeted. The issue is not one of oxygen production, but of transportation from manufacturing plants to hospitals and homes. With “Oxygen on Wheels,” a project implemented by Mahindra Logistics, we are attempting to bridge this gap.”

“The rollout plan includes Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, and Nagpur going live with another 50-75 Bolero pickups on the road in the next 48 hours,” Mahindra wrote. So far, Mahindra has assisted in the delivery of 61 jumbo cylinders to 13 hospitals in desperate need.
With 46,02,472 cases and 68,813 deaths, Maharashtra is India's worst-affected state in the pandemic. Though the Oxygen on Wheels initiative will initially serve the needs of residents in Maharashtra, Mahindra plans to expand this convoy of oxygen cylinders to other parts of the country in the near future.
“We have started in Maharashtra, but we will expand this across the country, relying on the support of our trusted dealership network and the assistance of local administrations to succeed,” Mahindra said.
