Body Balm Vs Body Lotion- Which one would you prefer?
"The lotion has a high amount of water whereas the balm consists of no water."
Lotions are of the lightest consistency among the different skincare products and comprise water as one of their main ingredients. Also, they have a low amount of oil content and moisturizes your skin for a short period of time. Moreover, many lotions use synthetic preservatives or alcohol to prevent microbial growth which can dry out the skin- contrary to its main purpose. Most of the lotions come in a bottle with a pump.
As for body balm, which may be a unique term for several people considering its low popularity, it is typically plant-oil and wax-based ointments that are used to heal and soothe the skin. They are thicker than lotions and don’t consist of water at all. Balms have a consistency somewhere between a heavy liquid to a solid. Balms protect your skin and deeply nourish your skin with its plant oils, butter from nuts and fruit, and waxes. Balms may feel greasier than lotion; however, they can work way better than lotion, deeply nourish your skin, and keep the skin nourished for a longer period. Moreover, balms don’t have alcohol- so; don’t worry about your skin drying off.
Well, Lotion is best if you don’t have much dry skin, but if you have dry skin that tends to flake and breakout during winters, then it's best to go with balms. Because of their thicker, soothing consistency, balms are best for extremely dry parts of your body. You can apply balm to hands and feet, and cover with cotton socks or gloves, at the night to help restore moisture and repair the skin. That being said, the choice between these two depends upon your preference. The key to skin repair and maintenance is to find a product that works for your skin type and your personal preferences.
