Foods that nourish your skin and hair

28th December 2021
"What do your skin and hair say about your health?"

What do your skin and hair say about your health? Eating well with a wide variety of nutritious foods is key to being healthy inside and out and also promotes good health overall.

Try adding the following foods to your diet to help keep your skin and hair at their best and keep your body in beautiful health along the way:

Protein

Skin, hair, and nails are made mostly of proteins. Keratin, collagen, and elastin are proteins that keep skin looking healthy and provide strength and elasticity.

Most of us eat plenty of protein from meat, chicken, fish, eggs, legumes, and dairy foods so it is not always necessary to take a protein or collagen supplement.

Instead, get the best results by eating skin-boosting protein-rich foods regularly throughout your day as part of a healthy, balanced diet.

Healthy Fats

Fats provide the nourishment required for cellular repair and growth, so be sure to include a daily dose of fat-containing foods such as sunflower seeds (which are also rich in beneficial minerals for keratin formation) and nuts, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, full-fat dairy if you tolerate it, coconut milk, fatty fish, and avocados.

Veggie variety

Fresh, colorful, and organic vegetables and fruit contain a medley of antioxidants that benefit hair, skin, and nails, as well as most other systems and organs in the body.

Include green and colorful foods with practically every meal if you can, including greens like spinach, kale, arugula, or lettuce for the base of daily salads with other varieties as toppings, and include fresh fruit as healthy snacks between meals.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is not only rich in healthy fats, but also contains anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties and, aside from providing nourishment to your skin and hair, creates a healthy coating to nourish your nails.

Apply a generosity to your fingers and/or toes, and be still for about 5-10 minutes while it penetrates to nourish the nails and cuticles and clear out any harmful toxins.

Repeat regularly for optimal results.

Fluids

This one sounds simple and it is. Good hydration is not only essential for concentration, energy levels, gut health, and overall wellbeing, but it’s also good for your skin too.

For well-hydrated skin, hair and nails drink plenty of water.

Be sure to drink at least 1.5-2L of fluid per day, more if it’s hot. Making a cup of tea helps too — black, green, and white tea contains flavonoids which help to protein skin hydration and condition and protect against UV damage.

Nuts and seeds

Including almonds, cashews, walnuts (and more) as well as seeds in your diet is a great way to help your hair, skin, and nails.

Nuts are a good source of protein, vitamin E & B vitamins.

Nuts, particularly walnuts and seeds like linseed are great sources of omega-6 fats as well.

Grab a handful as a snack or spread natural nut butter on your toast in the morning.

Common Health Issues Faced by Women

17th December 2021
"Women have very unique health issues as compared to men."

Women have very unique health issues as compared to men. It is vital that every woman has access to knowledge about the women’s health conditions, not only about her reproductive system but related about all aspects of her body.

It’s important to consider that poor health affects not only women but also has repercussions for their infants and other family members.

So here are some common health issue faced by women and needs to be taken care of:

Maternal health issues

From iron-deficiency anemia to high blood pressure, the changes a woman experiences during pregnancy can impact a woman’s health.

Pregnancy can cause a healthy mother’s red blood cell count to drop, a condition called anemia, or induce depression.

Other problems like abortion infections, STDs, post-partum infections, pelvic inflammatory diseases, etc. are also faced by many women.

Lifestyle problems such as smoking, alcohol, consuming processed food, physical and emotional stress can also play a significant role in infertility.

Thyroid problems

Thyroid disease is twice as prevalent in women as in men and is common among women of child-bearing age.

Women generally have hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone levels), in which the metabolism slows down. Symptoms include weight gain, feeling sluggish and tired, etc.

On the other side, high thyroid levels can also cause early onset of menopause, before 40 years or in the early 40s.

Urinary tract infections

Urinary tract infections is particularly common in women, as they have a shorter urethra than a man does.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) occur when germs get into the urethra and start to multiply.

Symptoms of a UTI include frequent urination, pain or burning when urinating, and cloudy urine.

Gynecological Health

Bleeding and discharge are a normal part of the menstrual cycle.

However, added symptoms during menstruation may indicate health issues, and unusual symptoms, such as bleeding between menstruations and frequent urinating, can mimic other health conditions.

Vaginal issues could also indicate serious problems such as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or reproductive tract cancer.

While care providers might treat mild infections easily, if left unchecked, they can lead to conditions such as infertility or kidney failure.

Depression and Anxiety

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) occurs commonly among women, while premenstrual dysmorphic disorder (PMDD) presents similar, but greatly intensified, symptoms.

Shortly after birth, many mothers acquire a form of depression called the “baby blues,” but perinatal depression causes similar which include symptoms like concerns, emotional shifts, sadness, and tiredness.

Best way to protect your hair from wearing a helmet |Women|

26th December 2021
"If you ride a scooter or a motorcycle every day, you must be wearing a protective helmet as well."

If you ride a scooter or a motorcycle every day, you must be wearing a protective helmet as well. And no matter what you think about this essential safety gear; that the helmet looks unaesthetic, that it ruins your hairstyle or it is the main cause of your hair loss, you still have to wear it.

Here are some tips to help you protect your hair while riding a motorcycle:

Clean your Helmet

Make sure you clean your helmet on a weekly or biweekly basis. It’s a simple exercise and one you shouldn’t ignore.

You can remove and wash the cushioning on the interior of all good-quality helmets.

This way, you get rid of any dust, sweat, and bacteria that might have gathered there. Wipe the rest of it thoroughly with a clean damp cloth.

If you want healthy hair, you must take care of your helmet.

Wear Protective Caps

Nowadays, there are a whole lot of options available in the market and one of them is protective caps.

Just like you wear caps for sun protection similarly, silk caps can be used to protect your hair from further damage while wearing your helmet.

When you will protect your hair in a cap, it will no longer come in contact with the harsh surface of the helmet and it will automatically stay safe and secure within the cap’s cozy comfort.

Choose Quality Helmets

The helmet is the concerning factor thus, it is important to choose good or high-quality helmets.

We tend to not provide optimum amounts of our finances to the things we consider low on our priority list but those little things can make all the difference.

No matter how many expensive protective caps you buy or how many pretty protective hairstyles you wear, if you are not investing in a high-quality helmet then, all of your efforts are a waste of time.

Cloth Cover inside the Helmet

If you are not much into protective caps, there are different possibilities for the overall protection of your hair.

You can cover the inside lining of the helmet with a soft silky cloth.

This will ensure that your hair comes in contact with the silky soft lining of the cloth and not the hard surface of the helmet.

You will get access to these clothes from any good quality cloth store and they can easily get attached over the inner hard lining of the helmet.

Avoid Wearing A Helmet On Wet Hair

If you wear a helmet while your hair is wet, the helmet's insides can become damp.

The lack of airflow encourages the growth of germs and fungi, causing infections in the scalp that bring about more problems than just hair loss.

Moreover, wearing a helmet can cause more damage to wet hair. It's best to take time out and dry your hair properly before you put your helmet on.

A few extra minutes can save you the trouble of enduring other hair problems.
