"People are in rapid need of upgrades on their devices or upgraded devices. The developer and manufacturers of smartphones also keep introducing newer additions to their products at a rather rapid pace."

The consumer community is always on close watch to the new items coming to the market especially with smartphones and gadgets. People are in rapid need of upgrades on their devices or upgraded devices.

The developer and manufacturers of smartphones also keep introducing newer additions to their products at a rather rapid pace. No sooner have you been informed about the latest handset, than there's anticipation for the next big thing.

Let's quickly take a look at the upcoming smartphones in 2021:

Redmi Note 10 Pro series

Redmi released some fantastic phones with the Note 10 series. We were pleased with the launch of the Redmi Note 10 in Nepal, while Xiaomi Nepal hasn't launched the Redmi Note 10 Pro entries. Now, we're excited to see the Nepal launch later this year.

Now, we're looking forward to their Nepal debut in the coming months.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro and Note 10 Pro Max both have a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Both devices have Gorilla Glass 5 protection and are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G chipset. The camera module is the most notable difference.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro has a 64MP led quad-camera setup on the back. The camera also includes an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 5MP super macro lens. Similarly, the Note 10 Pro Max has a 108MP main camera with 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth, and 5MP tele-macro capabilities.

Aside from that, both phones come with a 5020mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging via a USB Type-C port.

The price of the Redmi Note 10 Pro (108MP) in Nepal is NPR 29,999 and NPR 33,999 for the 6/64GB and 6/128GB variants, respectively.

Vivo's FuntouchOS 11.1 based on Android 11 powers all three phones.

A 64MP main sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro lens are included in the camera setup. It has a 44MP selfie camera on the front that also supports OIS. All three phones are powered by a respectable 4000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.

Both models have a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Similarly, Gorilla Glass 5 protects this screen. 8/128GB NPR 55,000

OnePlus 9 model series

The OnePlus 2021 hype train finally arrived at its station with the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. Both have a curved back that matches the slim frame perfectly, but the OnePlus 9 has a flat panel while the OnePlus 9 Pro has a curved one. Similarly, the OnePlus 9 has a 6.55-inch flat AMOLED display, while the Pro variant has a larger 6.7-inch AMOLED display.

These phones are powered by Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC, as they are the company's flagship phones for 2021. Each model has a 48MP main camera, a 50MP wide-angle camera with a freeform lens, and a 2-megapixel B&W sensor. The OnePlus 9 Pro also has an 8MP telephoto lens with a 3.3x magnification.

The OnePlus 9 Pro also includes an 8MP telephoto lens with 3.3x optical zoom.

While both phones have the same 4,500mAh battery and 65W quick charging, the Pro model also supports 50W wireless charging, whereas the standard OnePlus 9 can only support 15W wireless charging.

The price of the OnePlus 9 in Nepal is NPR 104,999 for the 12/256GB variant.

Samsung Galaxy A22

According to reports, Samsung is working on the Galaxy A22 5G, which could be the company's most affordable 5G smartphone. The 5G version is unlikely to be released anytime soon, but a 4G variant has been spotted on the Indian BIS variant.

The device could be equipped with a Snapdragon 480 or a Dimensity 700 SoC. Furthermore, the Galaxy A22 4G could have a 13MP front camera as well as a quad-camera system with a 48MP main camera, an 8MP secondary camera, and two 2MP cameras. The phone could be available in a variety of colors such as gray, white, light green, and purple.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy A22 (4G) in Nepal is NPR 27,999 for the 6/128GB variant.

Realme 8i

In addition to the Realme 8 5G, the company's CEO hinted at the release of the Realme 8i. In addition, the device was found in the TENAA database under the model number RMX2205, which revealed some of the phone's specifications.

But we don't know for sure if it's the Realme 8i. However, it appears to be the most qualified candidate at the moment. The TENAA certification reveals dimensions of 158.5 x 73.3 x 8.4 mm and a 6.43-inch display. We assume the handset will have an AMOLED display because there is no physical fingerprint sensor. The phone has a 4,400mAh battery and runs Android 11 on top of Realme UI 2.0.

The price of Realme 8i in Nepal starts at NPR 23,799 for the base 4/64GB variant. Similarly, the 6/128GB variant costs NPR 27,199.

Global Smartphone Q3 2019 report

13th April 2022
"The most notable growing brand this year has to be Realme taking the 7th spot in the Q3 shipment result"

Smartphones has become greater parts of our life. We rely so much on smartphones now a days from taking selfies to navigate to our destination. Smartphones has become integral part of our lives. As new technologies are arriving every day people are buying phones more and more. There is something for everyone who wants particular feature in their phones. And research from Counterpoint show that. According to Counterpoint research, Global sales of smartphones in Q3 of 2019 reached 380 million units in shipments, as compared to 379.8 million units in Q3 2018.

Leading the market share in the smartphone industry is Samsung taking 20.6% of the market where as Huawei came in second taking 17.6% of the share. Taking the third place is Apple with 11.8% market share. Top three brands Samsung, Huawei and Apple took almost half of the market share where rest of the hundreds of the brands took half of the market share.

On Huawei’s continued growth Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Counterpoint Research, said, “The US trade ban on Huawei did not affect the overall brand’s shipments and growth in Q3 2019 after the uncertainties in June. Huawei’s strategy to supplement its decline in overseas market share with domestic push paid off handsomely. The rising sense of nationalism towards Huawei amidst US-China trade war coupled with aggressive go-to-market strategy in China helped Huawei boost mindshare and marketshare domestically. Outside China, the widening gap being created in overseas markets such as Europe, Latin America & Middle East due to the lack of shipping new models with Google services gives a window of opportunity especially Samsung, Xiaomi and others to capture share away.Huawei, though will have to be careful of the inventory levels in domestic market as the market could quickly transition to the upcoming 5G wave which could affect its market share in coming quarters.”

On the other hand, Apple’s decline in shipment by 4% caused the company’s revenue to fall by 11%. But the positive response for the latest iPhone 11 series during the end of the Q3 can bring good results in the Q4 of 2019 for the company.

The most notable growing brand this year has to be Realme taking the 7th spot in the Q3 shipment result. Realme’s shipment in Q3 of 2018 was just 0.3% fast forward a year and shipment has bumped to 2.7% allowing the company to take 7th spot. Not only that Realme also remained in the top 5 brands in India list consecutively for four Quarters. Realme jumped from 14th position in Q1 to 10th postion in Q2 again jumping to 7th position in Q3 of 2019.

Lastly, BBK group which consist of four brands Vivo, OPPP, OnePlus and Realme is close to become the largest smartphone manufacturer group globally. BBK Group accounts for over 20% of the global market share with three of its four brands in top 10 position. Surprising thing about this research is that OnePlus is not in the top 10 list, even though it has become very popular and has good fanbase.

Foldable Smartphones in Nepal

15th April 2022
"Foldable Smartphones, a next-generation innovation that is likely to win over the customers in days to come."

Foldable Phones, inspiring next-level innovation in Smartphone, are the phones comprising of hinged flexible display whose display folds on a vertical or horizontal axis. The vertical fold on a tablet-like Smartphone creates a regular-sized Smartphone whereas the horizontal fold creates a clamshell-like phone which makes it easier to carry around.

Prior to any other mainstream tech brands, the concept of foldable phones was first unveiled to the market by Royole, a Chinese electronic brand, by introducing Royole FlexPai in 2018. However, foldable phones got more attention after Samsung launched its first-ever foldable phone- Samsung Galaxy Fold in 2019. After Samsung, brands like Huawei, Microsoft, LG, etc. have brought and are bringing their foldable phones into the market.

Currently, there are many foldable smartphones available in the global market such as Galaxy Fold, Royole FlexPai, Huawei Mate X and Xs, Galaxy Z Flip, Motorola Razr, LG’s V60, Microsoft Surface Duo, etc.

Along with new Smartphone innovations, the size of the display and the phone itself is increasing. As a result, it’s difficult to carry phones. Some phones are too big even to hold in hands or to put in pockets. As a result, the risk of dropping them is high which leads to phone impairment. Foldable phones can be the best solution to this problem. You can have a Smartphone with a bigger screen and won’t have to worry about any impairment because- fold it and keep it, as easy as it sounds.

Also, with the flexible Smartphone, multi-tasking will be actually possible- you would be able to run different apps and software at the same time. Foldable phones, with their larger size, can hold larger battery reducing the battery problems. It is also likely to replace the laptops as you can carry a convenient-sized smart device without being troubled by any burden.

In the context of Nepal, unfortunately, the riveting foldable Smartphone is yet to enter the market. For the Nepalese market and customers, foldable Smartphone is a new and unfamiliar concept; so, they are somehow dubious about the smartphone and its features. The questions about its folding problems, durability and price are making people sceptical. I believe, the doubts will be cleared once the foldable phones enter the market and people experience the functions and features on their own.
