Maintenance tips to keep your curtain fresh and clean

6th February 2022
"Curtains not only keep out light and provide thermal properties; they also add style to your home."

Curtains not only keep out light and provide thermal properties; they also add style to your home. However, they can quickly collect dust and stains, so you'll need to clean them regularly to keep them looking good.

Before you tackle the big curtain clean, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

Vacuum

Vacuuming is essential for keeping your curtains dust-free.

Curtains, depending on the fabric, can accumulate dust quickly, so vacuum them regularly.

You should aim to vacuum your curtains once a month at the very least, but if you are particularly conscientious about cleanliness, feel free to go even more frequently.

To get the best results, attach a brush attachment to the vacuum head. This will make it easier to get the dust off the curtains.

Shake them out

Climb to the top of your curtains with a set of ladders or a chair and shake them powerfully from somewhere near the pole or rod.

This will loosen stubborn dust and dirt, but you'll need to vacuum the surrounding areas of the floor afterward.

Brush away any tiny fibers

Certain types of curtains can attract dust and fabric fibers, also known as lint, which can stick to the material even when vacuumed.

If your vacuum cleaner does not remove all of the lint, use a lint roller or brush. Have someone pull the curtains outwards and flat for you to ensure you catch everything.

Clean windows with care

When the windows they cover are cleaned, curtains frequently become dirty or stained.

Make sure you're not creating an extra cleaning task for yourself by spraying your cloth rather than the window pane itself.

Cleaning agents, grease, and dirt will otherwise find their way onto your curtains.

Steam

If your curtains are greasy or have unsightly stains, a simple vacuum cleaner will not suffice.

Instead of taking them down and cleaning them, you can use steam to remove stains while your curtains are still in place.

A powerful handheld steam cleaner with an upholstery attachment can frequently remove stains and dirt from curtains with minimal effort.

Bad Household Habits to Stop Now

12th December 2021
"Home is the place we live throughout our life and in order to make our environment healthy, our home should be kept clean and healthy."

Home is the place we live throughout our life and in order to make our environment healthy, our home should be kept clean and healthy.

We all have bad habits and among them in this article, we will talk about different types of household habits that should be stopped right now:

Rinsing food down the sink

Washing away excess food down the sink before doing the dishes is an easy habit to get into but this is a really bad habit that can clog up your drain and cause blockages.

Instead, scrape any leftover food into the bin before washing the dishes – it might be more time-consuming, but it’s better than dealing with the sink filled with foods.

Leaving dishes to soak in the sink

Dishes

We all have a habit of leaving dishes in the sink for a long time. Leaving dishes in there for too long can allow the bacteria to grow on those.

Bacteria that you will be consuming later on. So to avoid this you really need to stop this habit of leaving dishes in the sink for a long period of time.

Painting over rusty railings

Rust

Another habit we have is painting over the rust. If the railings in your garden or balcony are starting to rust, applying a fresh coat of paint directly over them won’t solve the problem.

This is because rust prevents new paint from taking hold, so you’ll need to scrape it off and start from scratch.

Not cleaning the TV remote

Remote

This one is all too easy to forget but when you think about the number of times your TV remote is touched every day, it makes sense to clean it every week or on alternative days.

All you need to do is remove the batteries, then use a cloth and rubbing alcohol to clean all over the remote. If there’s dirt wedged in the gaps around the buttons, use a toothpick to remove it.

Not wiping door handles

Door handles

When we clean our homes, we forget about the door handles. It is constantly used throughout the day and touched by every family member so it might carry harmful microbes.

It is obvious that diseases bacteria transfer from one person to another. You need to keep germs in check by remembering to disinfect your door handles at the end of every day.

Forgetting to clean stove knobs

This is the most neglected thing by us. We all need to keep in mind that the dials are regularly splattered with food and touched frequently between preparations.

So it is very necessary to give them a thorough clean. All you need to do is remove the knobs and wash them in hot soapy water.

How to keep the house clean with pets

16th January 2022
"If you’re planning on adding a pet to your home, take the time to learn how to keep a house clean with pets first"

If you’re planning on adding a pet to your home, take the time to learn how to keep a house clean with pets first.

Here are tips that will help you keep your house clean despite your pet’s best efforts:

Invest in a good vacuum cleaner

Your vacuum cleaner needs to be capable of picking up pet hair effectively.

It should have powerful suction, work well on all surfaces, and not get clogged easily by excess hair.

You want one with a good filter that is easy to empty. It needs to get into all the tough-to-reach spaces, have tools for use on upholstery, and, ideally, should be as quiet as possible to minimize any stress for your pet.

Cover Any Furniture

Some people make an effort to keep their dogs off their couches and chairs.

But if you’re going to let yours climb on whatever furniture they want, consider covering some of it with bedsheets.

This will prevent your pet from getting hair all over your furniture. It’ll also save you from having to deeply clean your furniture later.

The only thing you’ll have to do to get your furniture clean removes the bedsheets from it and throw them into the washing machine.

Groom your pet regularly

Grooming your pet regularly is an important tip on how to keep your house clean with dogs.

Keeping your pet’s nails trimmed is a preventative measure for limiting unsightly nail damage.

Scampering about with too-long nails results in marred hardwood floors, scratched leather, and punctured upholstery.

Have emergency cleaning supplies

When it comes to cleaning supplies, you can never have enough in a pet-friendly home.

It’s important to deal with accidents and messes as soon as possible to avoid stains or odors, so I always have a fully stocked emergency cleaning station.

Making sure that you clean up any urine or vomit stains quickly and thoroughly is essential from a hygiene perspective, to eliminate any odors, and to minimize the risk of the pet going back again to the same spot.

Store All Your Pet’s Toys

Your pet is going to accumulate a lot of toys throughout its life. Before long, you’re going to find them laying all over your house.

Keep them organized by designating one area in your home for your pet’s toys.

You can buy a toy box for your pet and keep everything in there to reduce the amount of clutter you have inside your home.
