Makeup tips for acne-prone skin

13th February 2022
"Have you ever noticed that the more makeup you use to conceal your zits, the more uncomfortable you feel?"

Have you ever noticed that the more makeup you use to conceal your zits, the more uncomfortable you feel? And how often do the breakouts get worse?

So here are some makeup tips for those who suffer from acne:

Prep Your Skin before Using Makeup

Preparing the skin for makeup application over acne is the first step.

When the face is cleansed, toned, and moisturized, a healthy base is formed.

Wash your skin thoroughly with warm water and a suitable face wash to remove dirt and impurities.

Choose makeup carefully

With so many products on the market, you may need to experiment with different makeup to find the products that work best for your skin type.

Consider using makeup that contains salicylic acid, which can help to prevent and treat acne.

Keep in mind, however, that products containing salicylic acid may cause dryness, especially if you are already taking another acne medication.

Avoid heavy liquid makeup, which can trap dirt and oil and clog pores, causing breakouts.

Use makeup applicators

Applying makeup with your fingers can cause oil to transfer from your fingers to your face.

Instead, apply makeup directly to your skin with makeup applicators such as brushes.

Because makeup brushes collect product residue, dirt, oil, and bacteria, you should wash them with soap and water every seven to ten days to avoid new acne breakouts.

Always be gentle when applying makeup because too much tugging can irritate your skin.

Use Acne Makeup Products That Are Oil-Free

All ingredients that are not absorbed by your skin should be avoided. These 'oily' ingredients can clog pores as they sit on your skin.

When looking for acne-prone skin makeup, look for terms like non-comedogenic, hyaluronic acid, and hypoallergenic.

You are aware of how to apply acne-prone skin makeup. Don't forget to remove it now.

Even if you use the most gentle products for sensitive and acne-prone skin, you must remove them before going to bed.

Use a Color Corrector

If you have acne, you'll have a lot of red marks on your face, and putting concealer on top of them won't help you cover them up.

Before applying foundation or concealer, use a green color corrector to cover blemishes.

When applied to bright red zits, it neutralizes the color and effectively conceals the spots.

After you've applied the color corrector, you can go ahead and apply the concealer on top.

Essential skincare for teenagers

7th December 2021
"How you treat your skin now will likely play a role in how your skin looks and feels in the future."

As a teenager, you have plenty to deal with without having to add researching the best skincare and acne treatment for teens to your to-do list. How you treat your skin now will likely play a role in how your skin looks and feels in the future.

Here are the best essential skincare tips for teenagers:

Wash Your Face

That’s the first thing to do when you wake up in the morning. Because you need to clear your skin of the oil and sweat that have accumulated on your skin all through the night.

Do not use soap; use a mild cleanser. Do not rub aggressively as it can irritate the skin and increase oil secretion.

Moisturize

Yes. Even the most problematic skin needs to be moisturized.

Pick a light skin cream that’s suitable for your skin and addresses your skin issues (like acne or spots).

You can use matte finish moisturizers that are easily available on the market. If you are going out, you can use a tinted moisturizer.

Stay Away From Scrubs

Even the pore strippers. Wondering how on earth you are going to get rid of the blackheads?

The best way to get rid of them is to follow a cleansing routine religiously.

Use a product that contains 2% salicylic acid. You can talk to a dermatologist for a recommendation.

In case you are under 16, always do this under adult supervision.

Treat Acne

While acne can occur at any age, teens are more likely to get acne breakouts due to hormonal changes.

Use sulfur cleansers and masks to dry out your skin. They tend to be gentler on the skin than salicylic acid.

Benzoyl peroxide face washes, creams, foams, and gels are antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. They are very helpful in acne treatment.

Protection from Sun Damage

You’re not too young to start a daily sun protection routine.

After moisturizing, reach for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher and apply as directed.

Toss the bottle in your backpack so you can reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating.

Use a Face Mask or Face pack

Face masks have several benefits. They not only remove dirt, impurities, and toxins from your skin surface but also keep it moisturized.

Though you can easily buy readymade face masks and packs from the market, it is better to stick to natural ingredients.

Spread the mask on your face and wait until it’s dry and then wipe it clean.

"In today’s life, both men and women love makeup as it has become part of their life."

In today’s life, both men and women love makeup as it has become part of their life.

Some use it to look pretty while some of them use it to build up their confidence.

But do you know though makeup makes our skin look flawless it has too many side effects? Some of the side effects of Makeup and Cosmetic products are:

Dry or Oily Skin:

Dry and oiy

Some foundations and powders tend to dry out your skin and make it look dull and dry.

Oil-based makeup can cause your makeup to clump and crease, especially around your eyelids. Such cosmetics will leave an oily deposit that will result in a thick oily sheen.

So using an excessive amount of cosmetics and makeup leads to dry/ oily skin.

Acne:

Acne

Cosmetics like foundation and primer that even out the complexion of your skin and make your skin smooth, do this by smoothening your pores and natural blemishes.

This means that your skin is not allowed to breathe and therefore can end up causing several problems like acne. This is a common side effect of makeup that most women would have experienced.

Your skin is as much a part of your body as any other organ. It also needs to breathe and grow.

Moreover, some types of makeup which are in the form of liquids and creams clog the pores in your skin. This leads to the formation of blackheads, which when not cleaned regularly can form acne.

Allergies:

allergy

Chemicals known as Parabens which include ethyl-paraben, butyl-paraben, and isopropyl-paraben are used as preservatives to prevent bacterial growth in cosmetics.

Parabens can cause various allergic reactions like skin irritation, blotches, and blemishes on the skin.

Moreover, Cosmetics such as deodorants and antiperspirants contain alcohol and can cause redness and irritation, and itching which may eventually lead to pigmentation of the skin.

They also block your sweat glands and can lead to conditions like contact dermatitis and allergies.

Ageing:

Ageing

The chemicals used in makeup contribute to the ageing of your skin because they dry out the natural oils and essential vitamins and minerals present in human skin.

When you use skin products for a longer period of time, the chemicals present tend to permanently damage your skin.

With time, you could begin to see skin ageing signs like wrinkles or patchiness on your face and body.

Eye Infections:

Eye infection

It’s important to remember that your eyes and the skin around them are the most sensitive area of your face.

Layers of eye makeup can be damaging to your eyes as they also slip into your eyes through the corners causing irritation.

Moreover, any kind of irritant in your eye makeup can cause severe harm to your eyes. It can even lead to an eye infection.
