How to be a good pillion rider and make safe rider?
"With no instruction, experience, or preparation, practically anyone can put a helmet on and ride on the back of a bike."
There are endless booklets, Videos online, and advanced training options on how to be a successful motorbike rider, you even have to take a test before you are allowed free on the open road. Yet there is no such thing as a pillion. With no instruction, experience, or preparation, practically anyone can put a helmet on and ride on the back of a bike. Sometimes, the effect will be mayhem and causing the rider great difficulties.
Here are valuable tips about how to be a safe pillion co-rider:
Unnecessary Moving is unnecessary
A motorcycle rides on two wheels and is thus susceptible to any unnecessary adjustment in the distribution of weight. Maintaining a two wheeler's equilibrium is not only the duty of the rider but also of the pillion. Moving unnecessarily can disbalance a bike, and it could also distract the passenger, even though it doesn't it can distract the rider.
If you're nervous for whatever reason and you have to move, the main thing seems to be to always express this to the rider.
Be conscious of the position/movement of the rider's body
You have to be intact with the rider while he travels from side to side when riding a motorcycle as a pillion. Although you don't have to shift as far as the rider himself, you just have to synchronize the body position/movement. When the rider swings or leans his upper body to the left, for instance, when making a left turn, follow his body just enough to maintain the optimal overall balance.
Catch the rider round his waist
If you have to hold the rider, wrap your arms around his waist to make sure you don't hold tight enough to make the rider nervous. Conversely, if it is a long and nice journey, you can also kindly grip the waist on both sides.
Do NOT keep your hands on their shoulders as it will limit the rider's free body motion.
Look where you're going
There should still be a pillion looking forwards and where the bike goes. The passenger can aim to position their head a little laterally, allowing them to see the terrain and part of the path ahead. In doing so, they avoid their helmet from producing a sequence of air turbulence that can arrive directly at the helmet of the rider which assures that there are no frequent blows in braking and acceleration between pillion and rider helmets. In addition, this location would cause the pillion to be mindful of unexpected incidents or turns in the road that can occur. If the pillion knows what is happening or about to happen ahead, a journey will still be easier.
Stop putting the bodyweight on the rider
Don't rest on the rider's back. Even, stop having the bodyweight on the bike when the rider stops. Many of most motorcycles come with rear grab rails so they can be carried by the pillion whenever desired. It will help you to avoid placing undue weight on the rider by retaining them, particularly in the case of hard braking (when the vehicle loses momentum quickly moving the pillion forward).
Do Not Fall Asleep
No matter how apparent this is, when riding as a pillion, do not ever doze off. If the pillion wants to fall asleep, nothing can be more dangerous for the pillion and the passenger.
If you're too exhausted to ride a motorcycle, so completely stop going on a motorcycle. Nevertheless, let the rider know specifically that you are exhausted so that he understands. This doesn't mean that after allowing the rider to know, you can sleep away from the back!
Keep periodically chatting to the passenger so you can distract yourself from the sleepiness. Often, by constantly looking about, keep your attention on the road. Lastly, before the trip, have a cup of coffee if it keeps you awake.
Do Not Drink Because You Are Just a Pillion
Note, as a passenger with a seat belt on, you are not seated in a cab. Do not drink on a motorcycle or on any two-wheeler, even though you are not operating. It weakens the senses and is harder to fight against than to fight tiredness in all respects.
Whenever the need emerges, we hope these pointers will help us all become better pillion riders. A strong pillion will make a trip worthwhile, as we said earlier.
