How to keep your lips soft and smooth in winter
"While we ensure to take proper care of the skin of our hands, face, and legs, we often forget to take proper care of our lips."
The winds during the winter season can be particularly harsh and dry. While we ensure to take proper care of the skin of our hands, face, and legs, we often forget to take proper care of our lips.
Here are a few tips that you can follow to make your lips protected from the cold:
Don’t lick your lips
When your lips are dry, it’s natural to want to lick them to make them moist.
But licking your lips has the opposite effect.
As much as you may be tempted to bite off dry skin from the lips, or to lick them when they feel dry, do not do it.
It will only aggravate the problem and can lead to bleeding, cuts, and even drier, flaky, and chapped lips.
Use a lip balm regularly
The easiest and most common hack to keep your lips healthy and fuller is using a good quality balm.
Apply a moisturizing lip balm on your lips regularly. Winter air is dry that’s why it snatches away the moisture from your lips making them dry & chapped.
When you treat your lips with proper nourishment & a boost of hydration they become healthy & happy in the chilliest months.
Don’t peel or pluck
Naturally, you urge to peel or pick the skin off your chapped lips but doing this is a complete no-no.
Stop peeling or picking at the flaky skin on your lips so that they remain healthy & no skin problems arise.
Peeling lips can also result in blisters & cracks that are very painful. Instead, treat them with lip oil or ointment right away.
Keep yourself hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is known to be good for your skin — and this includes your sensitive lips.
In winter, lip products are important; but you should keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water.
We drink less water in winters as our body doesn’t sweat as much & that’s one of the reasons your skin & lips feel dry & dull.
So, to fight dryness and keep your lips moisturized and healthy even in winters, make it a point to drink enough water and keep yourself hydrated from within.
Use an SPF on your Lips
A huge reason your lips dry out in the winter is actually due to the sun.
You might think that just because it’s not summertime, the sun won’t have anything to do with it, but the truth is the sun is damaging even in the cold.
You should make sure you’re wearing an SPF on your lips whenever you go out on a sunny day, even if it’s cold out.
