Effects of smartphones on children

31st January 2022
"Smartphone usage is rapidly increasing in today's digital and globalized world, and many people cannot imagine their daily lives without them."

Smartphone usage is rapidly increasing in today's digital and globalized world, and many people cannot imagine their daily lives without them. Smartphones are affecting children as well as adults.

Here are some harmful effects of smartphones on children’s health that parents must know about:

Damaged eyesight

Young children are increasingly playing video games and watching YouTube videos for long periods, which can be harmful to their eyes.

Some teenagers keep their phones too close to their faces. Continuously staring at a mobile phone for a long period can cause eye damage.

It can cause headaches, dry eyes, blurred vision, and pain, even though it has not been proven to cause permanent eye damage.

Sleep Disruption

Before going to bed, most children use their cell phones.

You may not realize it, but your child can stay up late playing games or watching YouTube videos.

Using any electronic device at night can also result in less sleep.

Any digital device we use emits blue light, which is harmful to our eyes and fools our brain into believing it is daylight.

Health problems

Overuse of cell phones harms children's mental health and increases their risk of developing other health problems.

Constant use of a smartphone can put undue strain on a person's neck and shoulders.

It can result in headaches, neck pain, shoulder strain, and poor posture.

Because there is no physical movement when using a mobile phone, your children are more likely to become overweight and develop other illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes.

Poor academic performance

Kids are addicted to smartphones and carry them around with them at all times.

Even at school, most kids have their phones with them.

During breaks or even in the middle of a class, people are increasingly playing games, taking selfies, and chatting with friends.

Reduced attention, poor grades, poor academic performance, and missing important lessons are all possible outcomes of these activities.

Inhibit social development skills

As children become more engrossed in their smartphones, they will become less interested in what is going on around them.

Mobile phones are used by children even in public places.

Smartphone use can increase children's social isolation and encourage them to spend more time alone, which can lead to depression and loneliness.

They will also be lacking in social skills, aggressive, and easily irritable.
