Tips for cleaning your TV or laptop screen safely

From TVs to computers and laptops, and even mobile phones, all of these appliances and gadgets share several characteristics, one of which is that they all have screens built into them.

It's important to know how to clean your specific screen because getting it wrong will leave you with scratches, smears, or worse for a long time.

Try dry-wiping first

Avoid using paper towels as well as tissue paper, toilet paper, and old rags.

These have the potential to scratch a screen or leave material grooves (maybe not enough for you to notice right away, but combined with the wrong cleaning material, it can create the scratch and dreaded gray swath).

Make an effort to use the softest cloth you can find (like microfiber cloths).

Don’t press too hard

If the dirt doesn't come off easily, don't expect to wipe the slate clean by applying more pressure.

Putting more force into your cleaning efforts on LCD monitors, big-screen TVs, and laptops may result in irreversible damage—most likely by destroying the pixels in the screen.

Don’t use chemical cleaners

Make sure you're not using too much chemical cleaner before you begin. This may cause permanent damage to the screen.

To protect their surfaces, most modern TVs have special coatings. When you use harsh chemical cleaners, these coatings can be damaged.

Don’t spray directly on the screen

Cleaning solutions, including water, will run down the screen and into the bezels, allowing them access to the monitor or television's interior.

If you're quick, you might be able to catch it before it causes further damage, but instead of applying solvent or liquid directly to the screen, wet the cloth you're using and wipe it down.

This is particularly dangerous when using a laptop screen.

Always unplug the TV first

There are two reasons for this: first, you'll be able to see more dust and dirt against the black background of the screen if it's unplugged.

And second, you don't want to risk electrical shock if you use a liquid to clean.

Easy tracking of mobile sets stolen or lost

19th July 2020
"Easy tracking of mobile sets stolen or lost"

Nepal Telecom Authority has started a mobile phone set tracking service. From now on, NTA will take action against those who buy and sell phones found by someone.

The authority will take action if the mobile phone found by the authority is sold without informing the concerned person or the police. As the lost phone can be easily tracked through mobile tracking technology, the regulator has informed to return the found mobile phone set to the concerned person, police office or authority.

Mobile phones have International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) / Electronic Serial Number (ESN) / Mobile Equipment Identity (MEID). Mobile phone sets are now imported to Nepal only on the recommendation of NTA. Therefore, the authority has a record of all mobile phone sets imported into Nepal.

Therefore, the authority has made available a 'mobile tracking' service for everyone to track the lost mobile phone set of any person. Anyone who loses a mobile phone can click here to report to the authority.

If someone has found a mobile phone set, it is best to return it. If the phone set is not returned, the authority will easily track it. If someone buys an old mobile phone because it is cheap, it can be stolen. So old mobile buyers should also be careful. If it is a stolen or lost phone, he will be prosecuted, the authority said.

Things to know before buying a laptop

25th January 2022
"We all have or will need a laptop at some point in our lives."

We all have or will need a laptop at some point in our lives. Purchasing a laptop may appear to be a simple task, but it is not.

There are numerous factors to consider before making a decision, and the following are some that may be useful to you:

Screen Quality

Every day, you'll most likely be staring at your laptop screen for hours.

So choose a laptop with a screen that is easy on the eyes. Keep in mind that glossier screens tend to reflect ambient light.

Also, keep in mind that touch screen laptops will have a glossy screen, so weigh the benefits and drawbacks.

Screen resolution is also important depending on how you intend to use your laptop.

When researching laptop screen options, it's a good idea to go to a computer store and look them over in person.

Size

One of the best features of a laptop is its ability to fit into a laptop bag and accompany you around the world.

If portability is important to you, look for laptops with smaller screen sizes and a thin, lightweight design.

These laptops are frequently marketed as Ultrabooks, so keep an eye out for that term.

Alternatively, choose a device with a screen size of 12 to 13.3 inches and a weight of less than 1.5kg.

Battery Life

A laptop's battery life is determined by a variety of factors.

There are several factors to consider, including screen brightness, resolution, the type of programs you are running, the operating system, and others.

It is entirely dependent on usage, and the manufacturer's stated battery life is rarely indicative of your experience.

Instead of focusing on the number of hours specified by the manufacturer, consider the battery's rating in Watt-hours (Wh) or milliamp-hours (mAh).

Storage

You must consider not only the amount of storage but also the type of storage.

Hard disk drives were popular back in the day. Hard drives are becoming less popular as laptops become slimmer and lighter.

Instead, many laptop owners are opting for solid-state drives, which are faster, quieter, and, yes, more expensive.

RAM

RAM (random access memory) is essential to computer performance, especially if you do a lot of multitasking on your laptop, such as editing photos, writing word documents, and browsing the web all at the same time.

The more RAM you have, the faster your laptop can access data and the more applications you can run at the same time.

The bare minimum is 4GB of RAM. Look for 8GB or more if you use a lot of high-power software.

SSD Hard Drive

Laptops with an SSD or SSD cache are faster and have a better response time. SSDs are more energy-efficient and more durable.

SSDs are used in most new laptops because they are more durable, lighter in weight, and consume less battery power than hard drives.

You can keep your operating system and important programs on the SSD for faster loading times and use the hard drive to store data.
